Fuzhou University is a national "Double First-Class" university, a national "211 Project" key university, and a university jointly built by the Fujian Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1958 and has now developed into a key university with engineering as the main focus, combining science and engineering, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, and art.

The school has carried out in-depth foreign cooperation and exchanges, and has established cooperative relations with Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Tianjin University, Haixi Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and more than 140 universities, scientific research institutions and well-known companies in 50 countries and regions abroad. The school actively connects with the national "Belt and Road" initiative, establishes an international scientific and educational cooperation and exchange platform, becomes a Chinese government scholarship receiving institution for international students, and recruits international students from more than 30 countries; student study abroad programs cover more than 95% of colleges; and employs more than 50 overseas experts and scholars to teach at the school for a long time. The school currently has one Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institution, Maynooth International Engineering College, and three Sino-foreign cooperatively-run programs, covering undergraduate and graduate levels. The school is now a key project unit of the national reform pilot for cooperative education between Fujian and Taiwan. The exchange and cooperation with Taiwan has developed in depth, and the established two-way joint training model has become a new highlight of educational exchange and cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan.

The school has a beautiful campus environment, advanced teaching and scientific research equipment, and a complete public service system, and it continues to promote the construction of cultural campuses, smart campuses, and ecological campuses. The main body of the school is located in the Qishan campus, and it has multiple campuses in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou and other places, with a school building area of ​​1.63 million square meters.
