Anyang Normal University is located in Anyang, the hometown of oracle bone inscriptions, the site of Yinxu, the birthplace of the Red Flag Canal spirit, a national historical and cultural city, and one of the eight ancient capitals of China. It is a general undergraduate university under the jurisdiction of Henan Province. The predecessor of the school was the Anyang Normal School of Zhangde Prefecture, which was founded in 1908. In 1949, it was named Pingyuan Provincial Anyang Normal School. In 1958, it was renamed Henan Anyang Normal College. In 1960, it was renamed Anyang No. 1 Normal School. In 1978, it was restored to Anyang Normal College. In 1992, it was renamed Anyang Normal College.
