Zhongyuan University of Technology

Zhongyuan Institute of Technology is a key university in Henan Province with engineering as its main discipline, electronic information and textile and clothing as its special advantages, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, management, art, science, literature, economics, law, and philosophy. The school was founded in 1955 and was originally named Zhengzhou Textile Institute. It was affiliated to the former Ministry of Textile Industry. In 1998, it was transferred to the management of Henan Province and renamed Zhongyuan Institute of Technology in 2000.

The school has 21 teaching colleges (departments) including Textile College, Energy and Environment College, Mechanical and Electrical College, Fashion College, Art Design College, and Electronic Information College, 65 undergraduate majors, and currently has more than 23,000 full-time students.

The school currently has 1,997 faculty members, including 1,400 full-time teachers, 615 teachers with senior professional titles, and 611 teachers with doctoral degrees; 5 national excellent teachers, 1 national model teacher, national young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, and 20 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council; 6 academic and technical leaders in Henan Province, 12 famous teachers in Henan Province, 8 provincial excellent teachers, 6 specially appointed lecture professors in Henan Province, and 17 teaching and research teams at the provincial level and above.

The school has two characteristic backbone disciplines in Henan Province, namely "Intelligent and Aviation Information Technology" and "New Materials and High-end Equipment for Textiles and Clothing", covering 7 first-level disciplines. It has 13 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points such as information and communication engineering, control science and engineering, computer science and technology, and cyberspace security, 60 second-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 17 master's professional degree authorization categories. It has 8 key first-level disciplines and 2 key second-level disciplines. It has the first batch of industrial training centers and university science and technology parks in Henan Province. In 2018, it was approved as a project construction unit for the granting of doctoral degrees in Henan Province.

Focusing on the construction of first-class undergraduate education, with the improvement of talent training quality as the core, actively promoting the reform and innovation of talent training models. In May 2016, the school successfully passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. There are 7 national first-class undergraduate majors, 4 national characteristic major construction sites, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot major, 1 national practical teaching base, and 2 national first-class undergraduate courses. 4 majors have passed the professional certification of engineering education. Actively explore the talent training model of "using competition to promote learning and competition to promote ability", and always integrate innovation and entrepreneurship education throughout the whole process of talent training. During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", a total of 48 international awards, 649 national awards, and 2970 provincial and above awards were won. In the 2016-2020 National General College Subject Competition Ranking (Undergraduate, TOP300), our school ranked 135th in the country. The employment rate of graduates remains above 90%.

The school currently has 52 national and provincial scientific research platforms, including the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Diamond High-efficiency Precision Sawing Tool Technology, the Henan Provincial Key Laboratory for Network Public Opinion Monitoring and Intelligent Analysis, the Henan Provincial Key Laboratory for Functional Textile Materials, the Henan Provincial Key Laboratory for Functional Salt Materials, the Henan Provincial International Joint Laboratory for Computational Intelligence Research and Application, the Henan Provincial International Joint Laboratory for Multi-mode Image Processing and Intelligent Analysis, and the Henan Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Textile and Garment Industry. It was approved as the first batch of Henan Provincial University Intellectual Property Operation and Management Center and has been rated as "the top ten and fastest universities in Henan Province in terms of comprehensive intellectual property capabilities" for many times. In the past ten years, the school has undertaken 2,313 scientific research projects of various types, including 193 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 51 National Social Science Foundation projects, 11 national major science and technology projects, national key research and development plan projects, and national defense major projects, and 930 provincial and ministerial projects. The university has won 191 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels or above, including 1 second prize of the National Technological Invention Award, 4 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 4 first prizes of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and 3 first prizes of the Henan Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award; 2,675 papers have been included in the three major retrievals, 1,053 books have been published, and 1,168 invention patents have been authorized. In 2019 and 2020, the research funding for the university exceeded 100 million yuan for two consecutive years.

The school has successively carried out international cooperation and exchanges with 61 universities and educational institutions in 24 countries and regions. The school is one of the earliest universities in Henan to carry out Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. Since 2002, it has signed joint training doctoral programs with famous foreign universities such as the University of Manchester in the UK, and signed joint training master programs with famous foreign universities such as the University of Applied Sciences in Essen, Germany, and cooperated with famous foreign universities such as the University of Manchester to hold undergraduate Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. Cooperate with the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrument Manufacturing in the Russian Federation to establish the Zhongyuan University of Technology Zhongyuan Petersburg Aviation College. An overseas branch of Zhongyuan University of Technology Xuanyuan College was established at Chulalong University in Thailand. The "China-Ireland Joint Institute of Software Engineering" was jointly established with Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland. International cooperation has embarked on a new path of two-way development of "bringing in" and "going out". The school is a standing director unit of the Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Education Research Branch of the China Higher Education Society, and is the chairman unit of the first Henan University Transportation Education Alliance. It has successively won the "Henan Province Advanced Collective for Introducing Foreign Intelligence" and "Henan Province Advanced Unit for Introducing Foreign Talents and Intelligence".

Over the years, the school has been rated as a civilized campus in Henan Province, an advanced unit for ideological and political work in Henan Province, and an advanced collective for poverty alleviation in Henan Province by the provincial party committee and the provincial government. The school party committee has been awarded the titles of "Five Good" Party Organizations in Henan Higher Education Institutions, Advanced Grassroots Party Organizations in the Province for Pioneering and Striving for Excellence, and Advanced Units for Grassroots Party Organization Construction in Henan Higher Education Institutions. The school was rated by the Ministry of Education as an advanced collective in the management of student status and academic qualifications in higher education, and the second batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform; it was awarded the title of "National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and was awarded the title of "Excellent Unit" for national summer social practice activities by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Students Federation; it was rated by the Henan Provincial Department of Education as the first batch of pilot universities for comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education", an advanced unit for employment work, and a construction unit of Henan Province's curriculum ideological and political demonstration universities.

Standing at a new historical starting point, the school has proposed a "three-step" development strategy of "achieving the name change to a university, obtaining doctoral authorization, and building a high-level engineering university", striving to build the school into a domestically advanced, new research-oriented engineering university with distinctive characteristics in electronic information disciplines by the middle of this century.
