Zhengzhou University (abbreviated as ZZU) is established by the People's Government of Henan Province, and its legal domicile is No. 100 Science Avenue, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. The school covers a total area of ​​more than 6,100 acres. The main campus is located at No. 100 Science Avenue, Zhengzhou City, the South Campus of the main campus is located at No. 75 North University Road, Zhengzhou City, the North Campus of the main campus is located at No. 97 Wenhua Road, Zhengzhou City, the East Campus of the main campus is located at No. 40 North University Road, Zhengzhou City, and the West Campus of the main campus is located at No. 157 Science Avenue, Zhengzhou City; the Luoyang campus is located at No. 6 Zhoushan Avenue, Luoyang City. The school recruits students nationwide, with more than 47,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 24,000 graduate students, and more than 2,700 international students from 103 countries.

Zhengzhou University is a key university in the national "211 Project", a world-class university and a "Ministry-Province Joint Construction" university. The school party committee is an advanced grassroots party organization in the country, and the school was selected as the third batch of "National Party Building Demonstration Universities" by the Ministry of Education. Standing at a new historical starting point, the school has established the positioning of a comprehensive research university, strived to build a high-level research university and a regional national strategic scientific and technological force, and proposed a "three-step" development strategy for the construction of a first-class university, striving to build a world-class university by the middle of this century.

Zhengzhou University's medical education originated from Henan Sun Yat-sen University in 1928. In 1952, Henan Medical College was established independently, opening the precedent of medical higher education in Henan; the former Zhengzhou University was founded in 1956 and was the first comprehensive university founded in New China. In 1996, it was listed as a key university in the national "211 Project"; Zhengzhou University of Technology was established in 1963 and is a key university directly under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. In July 2000, the former Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University merged to form the new Zhengzhou University. A large number of well-known experts and scholars, including educator, historian and philosopher Professor Ji Wenfu, physicist Professor Huo Bingquan, refractory material expert Academician Zhong Xiangchong, civil engineering expert Professor Sun Guoliang, otolaryngology expert Professor Dong Minsheng, founder of esophageal cytology Professor Shen Qiong, human parasitology expert Professor Su Shouyan, and representative of Nanyang writers Professor Er Yuehe, have all taught here.

The university has 12 major disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art, with balanced development of all disciplines; 3 world-class disciplines, including chemistry, materials science and engineering, and clinical medicine; 6 national key (cultivation) disciplines, including condensed matter physics, materials processing engineering, ancient Chinese history, organic chemistry, chemical technology, and pathology and pathophysiology; 13 ESI top 1% disciplines, including chemistry, materials science, clinical medicine, engineering, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, neuroscience and behavior, immunology, environment and ecology, physics, general social sciences, and computer science, among which chemistry ranks in the top 1‰ in the world in ESI; the university's academic institution ranking ranks 433rd in the world and 30th in domestic universities. The university has 31 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 4 doctoral professional degree authorization points, 59 first-level master's degree authorization points, 34 master's professional degree authorization points, and 28 postdoctoral research mobile stations. There are more than 4,400 full-time teachers (including full-time scientific researchers), including 21 academicians of the two academies and members of the academic divisions; 10 recipients of the "National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund", 22 recipients of the "Yangtze River Scholar Award Program", 27 candidates for the national "Million Talents Project", 784 professors, and 71.8% of the full-time teachers have doctoral degrees. A high-level faculty has been formed, led by academicians and academic masters, and with "Outstanding Young Scientists" and "Yangtze River" as academic leaders. Academician Cui Junzhi of the Chinese Academy of Engineering serves as the dean of the Henan Big Data Research Institute, Academician Gao Jun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences serves as the dean of the School of Earth Sciences and Technology, Academician He Jilin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering serves as the dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the Henan Resource and Material Industry Technology Research Institute, Academician Wang Fuming of the Chinese Academy of Engineering serves as the dean of the Underground Engineering Research Institute, Academician Chen Fener of the Chinese Academy of Engineering serves as the dean of the School of Pharmacy and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, Nick Lemon, a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the United Kingdom and a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, serves as the international dean of the School of Medical Sciences of Zhengzhou University, Liu Qingzhu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, serves as the dean of the School of History and the Central Plains History and Culture Research Institute (School of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage), Jin Bei, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, serves as the dean of the School of Business, and Mr. Nan Zhenzhong and Mr. Zhang Hai teach at our school.

The school has been listed as a national outstanding engineer, outstanding legal talent, and outstanding doctor education and training university. The school was selected as the "Advanced Unit for the Implementation of the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program in 2012-2014", and is one of the first national demonstration schools for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform and a typical university for national innovation and entrepreneurship experience. The school has nurtured orchids and cultivated flowers, and has cultivated a group of outstanding politicians, scientists, educators, social activists, entrepreneurs, medical experts and engineering and technical experts for the country in its 94 years of establishment. Focusing on the implementation of major national strategies, the school has formulated an implementation plan for the Zhengluoxin National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone to build an innovation-driven development system. It has the National Supercomputing Zhengzhou Center, the National Key Laboratory for Esophageal Cancer Prevention and Treatment jointly built by the province and the ministry, the National Engineering Research Center for Rubber and Plastic Molds, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Green Metallurgy and Processing, the National Engineering Laboratory for Internet Medical Systems and Applications, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Major Infrastructure Detection and Repair Technology, the National Calcium Magnesium Phosphate Compound Fertilizer Technology Research and Promotion Center, the Provincial and Ministry Co-construction Collaborative Innovation Center for Resources and Materials, the Provincial and Ministry Co-construction Collaborative Innovation Center for Underground Engineering Disaster Prevention and Control, and the National Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights and Interests Collaborative Innovation Center (collaborative unit); it has 1 national drug clinical research base and 1 national intellectual property training base. The school was selected as the first batch of collaborative research and innovation platform components of the "Ancient Characters and Chinese Civilization Inheritance and Development Project". It took the lead or participated in the construction of 6 provincial laboratories: the Central Plains Key Metals Laboratory, the Yellow River Laboratory, the Songshan Laboratory, the Longmen Laboratory, the Longhu Modern Immunology Laboratory, and the Shennong Seed Laboratory. It has 11 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, engineering research centers, and key research bases in humanities and social sciences. It has established university-level scientific research institutions such as the Henan Resource and Materials Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Henan Big Data Research Institute, the Henan Advanced Technology Research Institute, and the Military-Civilian Integration Research Institute. Over the past five years, the school has undertaken 180 projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Science and Technology Major Project. In 2021, a total of 439 projects were approved by the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation. The school has made breakthrough achievements in the research of key protective devices for astronauts' windows in the Shenzhou series, key technologies for high-performance ITO targets, basic theoretical research on magnetic confinement thermonuclear fusion, key technologies and development and application research for the production of automotive fuel ethanol, trenchless engineering technology and equipment, "one-step" solid-phase synthesis of semi-aromatic efficient preparation technology, catalysts and catalytic processes for selective hydrogenation of benzene to cyclohexene, key technologies and equipment for the treatment of refractory organic industrial wastewater and toxicity reduction, research and application of calculation theory and key technologies for specific structures of steel fiber concrete, biological genetics and epigenetic research, plant brassinolide research, history of the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, and history of the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and has won 8 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (including 1 Popular Science Award), 2 National Technological Invention Awards, and 2 National Natural Science Awards.

The university has established friendly cooperative relations with 271 universities or research institutions in 51 countries and regions including the United States and the United Kingdom, and has successively joined the Beijing Spectrometer (BESIII) International Cooperation Group, the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment (JUNO) International Cooperation Group, the High Altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory (LHAASO) Cooperation Group, the Taiji Project, the High Energy Physics (Belle II) International Cooperation Group and other large scientific facilities and international cooperation organizations. It has cooperated with foreign universities such as the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Platteville, the University of Wollongong in Australia, the University of Lodz in Poland, and the Belarusian State Conservatory of Music to carry out 8 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. Confucius Institutes have been established in India and Georgia, and Confucius Classrooms have been established in the United States. The school is a founding member of the "China-Russia Language and Culture University Alliance", a founding member of the "China-Russia Journalism Education University Alliance", a member of the "China-Russia Medical University Alliance", a member of the "South Asia-Southeast Asia University Presidents Alliance", a member of the "Silk Road University Alliance", and a member of the "China-Central and Eastern European Countries University Association". As one of the first local universities, it has been selected as a pilot unit for the "International Demonstration College Promotion Plan". It has 6 national-level international joint research centers, including micro-nano molding technology, cell and gene therapy, intelligent design of low-carbon and environmentally friendly materials, cancer chemoprevention, trenchless technology for underground infrastructure, and electronic materials and systems, as well as lightweight and functional polymer molding and molds, green construction and application of functional molecules, and innovation and introduction bases for cancer chemoprevention (National "111 Plan"). Zhengzhou University Science and Technology Park has been recognized as a national university science and technology park, becoming the first national university science and technology park led by universities in Henan Province. Building the Zhengda engineering and technical service brand, Zhengzhou University Construction Technology Group has become a leading enterprise in Henan's civil construction industry. Promoting the group development of affiliated hospitals, 12 affiliated hospitals currently have 40 national-level clinical key specialties, 145 provincial-level medical key (cultivation) disciplines, more than 36,000 open beds, and an annual outpatient volume of more than 20 million people (times). The medical service capacity continues to improve, becoming the "group army" of the medical industry in Henan Province.
