Xinxiang Medical College

Xinxiang Medical College is located in Xinxiang City, Henan Province. It is the only independent undergraduate western medicine college in Henan Province. The origin of the school can be traced back to the western medicine clinic opened by Dr. Luo Weiling in the ancient city of Weihui in 1896. Medical education began in 1922 at the Huimin Hospital Nursing School, which enrolled four-year nursing students and awarded diplomas by the Chinese Nursing Association (named "Chinese Nurses Association" in 1923). In 1949, the Jiluyu Health School and Harrison Hospital moved in, and the Pingyuan Provincial Medical School was established in 1950. The school has gone through the development stages of the Second Medical School of North China, Jixian Medical School of Henan Province, and Xinxiang Special District Medical College. In 1962, it was renamed Yubei Medical College; in 1982, it was upgraded to undergraduate and named Xinxiang Medical College; in 1998, it obtained the right to confer master's degrees; in 2006, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education and obtained excellence; in 2016, it was praised by the expert group in the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education; in 2016, it became a university supported by the basic capacity construction project of 100 universities in central and western China during the "13th Five-Year Plan"; in 2018, it successfully passed the clinical medicine professional certification of the Ministry of Education; in 2020, the school's "Immunology and Model Animal Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base" was approved as the "Higher Education Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Plan" (abbreviated as "111 Plan").

The school currently offers a variety of education types such as full-time education, Sino-foreign cooperative education and continuing education, and has a relatively complete talent training system for graduate students, undergraduates, and international students. There are 13,718 faculty and staff (including 5 clinical colleges), and nearly 28,000 students of all kinds. It has 15 affiliated hospitals and has established 4 domestic and foreign publicly published journals, 2 of which are national Chinese core journals.

The school adheres to the principle of developing its own characteristics. The undergraduate majors cover all first-level disciplines in medicine (except traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine). The number of students enrolled in five-year medical majors has accounted for more than half of the province for many years, supporting half of Henan Province's higher medical education. The clinical medicine discipline has entered the top 5‰ of the ESI global ranking, and has the largest bio-sample library of mental illness in the country. The psychiatry major has ranked 11th in the country for three consecutive years; pediatrics is one of the first eight universities in the country to resume pediatric enrollment; tuberculosis disciplines have ranked first in the province and eighth in the country for four consecutive years; medical laboratory disciplines ranked among the top 10 of the 113 universities in the country that offer this major in 2018-2019.

The school has a complete range of disciplines, covering seven disciplines including medicine, science, management, engineering, literature, law and education. It has 1 national key clinical specialty, 1 Henan Province Class A characteristic discipline group, 2 Henan Province characteristic backbone disciplines, and 21 provincial key disciplines. There are 12 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 10 professional degree master's degree authorization points, and 20 master's students have been trained. There are 35 undergraduate majors, 15 national and provincial characteristic majors, 20 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 44 national and provincial first-class undergraduate courses.

The school insists on quality-based school. There are 22 teaching colleges, and all ordinary undergraduate majors are included in the first-class enrollment in Henan Province. In recent years, it has won 2 national teaching achievement awards. It has won the first prize in the Central China Division of the National College Students Clinical Skills Competition for Seven Consecutive Years. The pass rates of graduates in the practicing physician qualification examination, oral professional physician examination, and nurse professional qualification examination are all higher than the national average. It was awarded the first batch of national clinical medicine professional comprehensive reform pilot units, national excellent doctor training program pilot units, and the first batch of national clinical teaching and training demonstration centers. In 2021, it was approved as a key project construction unit of the doctoral degree awarding unit in Henan Province.

The school insists on strengthening the school with talents. It has introduced 20 high-end talents such as dual-appointed academicians, Yangtze River Scholars, and Outstanding Youth Fund winners; it has 25 national model teachers, national outstanding teachers, and recipients of special government allowances from the State Council; it has approved 94 provincial high-level talents, special government allowances, teaching masters, outstanding teachers, and academic and technical leaders.

The school insists on scientific and technological innovation. It has 1 national and local joint engineering laboratory, 4 provincial key laboratories, 15 provincial international joint laboratories, 22 provincial collaborative innovation centers, research centers and other subject platforms, and has established postdoctoral research workstations, postdoctoral innovation practice bases, and academician workstations. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 500 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. More than 40 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards have been obtained. The National Natural Science Foundation Project has ranked among the top 9 in the province for nine consecutive years. In recent years, the school and its affiliated hospitals have signed more than 160 various achievement transformation and horizontal cooperation agreements with enterprises and institutions.

The school insists on open education. The school focuses on international cooperation and exchanges, and has cooperated with Bloomfield College in the United States and the University of Turin in Italy to carry out Sino-foreign cooperative education projects; signed a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution agreement with the University of Beira Intra in Portugal; and carried out a joint doctoral program with the University of Science of Malaysia. Adhering to the principle of "invite in" and "go out", the school invites experts and scholars such as Academician Fan Daimin, Academician Qi Faren, and Academician Xu Jianguo to exchange ideas, and selects outstanding teachers to study, lecture or conduct academic research abroad, creating a good academic atmosphere.

The school's social reputation and influence continue to improve. In the long-term practice of running schools, successive generations of new medical people have adhered to the school motto of "Mingde er erudition, love and use", passed on the torch, remained committed, and worked tirelessly, forming the school spirit of "hard work and self-improvement" and the good school spirit of "unity, diligence, truth-seeking, and innovation", and gradually accumulated their own school characteristics.
