Nanyang Normal University is a general undergraduate university in Henan Province. It was founded in 1951 as Henan Provincial Nanyang Normal School, upgraded to Nanyang Normal College in 1958, and upgraded to Nanyang Normal University in 2000. In 2007, it passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2011, it was approved as a "National Special Needs Talent Training Project-Bachelor's Degree Awarding Institution to Carry out a Pilot Training of Master's Professional Degree Graduates". In 2016, it was identified as a demonstrative applied technology type undergraduate college in Henan Province. In 2017, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution. In 2020, it was identified by the Henan Provincial Department of Education as a characteristic backbone discipline university in Henan Province for key construction.

The school covers an area of ​​2,190 mu, with a building area of ​​852,000 m2, a total value of 440 million yuan for teaching and research equipment, 2.38 million Chinese and foreign paper books, and 1.6 million electronic books. There are more than 27,500 full-time students. There are more than 1,600 faculty and staff, including more than 500 people with senior professional and technical titles, nearly 400 doctors, and more than 1,230 full-time teachers. The school has established long-term cooperative relations with high-level universities in many countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand. It has jointly established Nanyang Normal University Wolong College (Overseas College) with the Royal University of Technology Bangkok, Thailand, and cooperated with Jeonju University in South Korea and the Royal University of Technology Bangkok in Thailand to hold undergraduate education projects. It has carried out Sino-foreign undergraduate course cooperation projects with the University of South Australia in Australia, reached a credit recognition agreement with Curtin University in Australia, and established school-level exchange projects for the 121 dual degree program of the "China-US Talent Training Program" with many state universities in the United States.
