Kaifeng University is located in Kaifeng, a famous historical and cultural city in China and the ancient capital of eight dynasties. It was founded in 1980. It is a full-time general college with six major disciplines including engineering, management, literature, economics, medicine and art, approved by the Henan Provincial People's Government and registered by the Ministry of Education. It is sponsored by the Kaifeng Municipal People's Government.

The school covers an area of ​​1,753 acres, with a total construction area of ​​about 432,900 square meters, and about 256,000 square meters of teaching, scientific research and administrative buildings; the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 166.2126 million yuan; the library has a construction area of ​​28,000 square meters, with a collection of 1.4807 million paper books and 25,377 electronic professional journals.

The school has 14 colleges and departments, 53 permanent majors, 18,442 full-time students, and students come from 30 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) across the country. The school is qualified to receive and send international students, and has joint education projects with the United Kingdom and Australia.

The school currently has 1,120 faculty and staff inside and outside the school, 177 teachers with senior professional titles, and 429 teachers with postgraduate degrees. Among the faculty, there are 5 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 1 international dentist, 3 enjoying special allowances from the provincial government, 3 vocational education experts in Henan Province, 3 academic and technical leaders in Henan Province, 14 academic and technical leaders of the Henan Provincial Department of Education, 3 famous teachers in Henan Province’s colleges and universities, 24 recipients of the Henan Province Colleges and Universities Young Backbone Teachers Funding Program, 12 top talents in Kaifeng City, and 49 professional leaders in the school. The school also hired experts, scholars and industry experts at home and abroad as visiting professors. We have focused on training a group of "double-qualified" teachers who have both profound theoretical knowledge and rich practical experience and skills, and have formed a team of part-time teachers composed of production engineers and industry experts in combination with the characteristics of various disciplines.

The school currently has 1 provincial academician workstation, 1 provincial key laboratory, 1 provincial engineering laboratory, 1 provincial science and technology innovation team, 1 provincial intangible cultural heritage research base, 2 provincial university engineering technology research centers, 4 municipal key laboratories, 4 municipal engineering technology research centers, 2 municipal innovative science and technology teams, 7 school-level collaborative innovation centers, and 1 science and technology workstation.

The school continues to promote scientific and technological innovation, promote the development of scientific research teams, and improve the level of scientific research. In the past five years, 7 national projects, 120 provincial and ministerial projects, 608 municipal and departmental projects, 5 school-level doctoral fund projects, 29 youth fund projects, and 142 Kaifeng University student innovation fund projects have been approved; a total of 293 patents have been obtained, of which 22 invention patents have been authorized; 4 achievements have won the Henan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. The school has founded the Journal of Kaifeng University, which is a first-level journal in Henan Province, an excellent journal for the implementation of China's "CAJ-CD Standard", an excellent journal of local universities nationwide, and a journal fully included in the China Journal Network.

The school has 2 projects supported by the central government to enhance the professional service industry development capabilities of higher vocational schools, 6 provincial specialty majors, and 8 provincial "comprehensive reform pilot" majors; it has established a national-level high-quality online open course, 6 provincial-level high-quality courses, and 1 provincial-level high-quality resource sharing course. The school has 307 internship and training bases inside and outside the school, 3 vocational education training base construction projects supported by the central government, 2 provincial-level demonstration training bases, and 1 provincial-level higher vocational education demonstration comprehensive training base.

The school was included in the national high-quality higher vocational college construction project, and the school's maker space was rated as a "national maker space" by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
