Shenzhen Vocational and Technical College was founded in 1993 and is one of the earliest independent institutions of higher vocational and technical education in China. Since its establishment, the people of Shenzhen Vocational and Technical College have worked hard, pioneered and made progress, and continuously innovated the educational and teaching concepts, school-running system and mechanism, and talent training model, creating many firsts in China's higher vocational education. Relying on the development of the Pearl River Delta industry, adhering to the spirit of reform and innovation in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the school insists on taking moral education as the fundamental task of school education, based on the school-running characteristics of vocational education integrating production and education, and has achieved remarkable results in various undertakings. It is known as the "flag" of China's higher vocational education. In order to closely match the major national strategies such as "Made in China 2025" and Shenzhen's innovation-driven development strategy, the school proposed the strategic development goals of "three services, five positionings, and one first" in the work report of the third party congress held at the end of 2016. It has always adhered to serving the party and the country, serving the economic and social development of Shenzhen, and serving the healthy growth and development of students. It strives to become a pioneer in the innovative development of vocational education, a cradle of compound innovative high-quality technical and skilled talents, a cradle of entrepreneurs, a technology research and development center for small and medium-sized enterprises in Shenzhen, a lifelong education school for Shenzhen citizens, and an important base for the training of teachers in China's vocational education. Professional settings: There are 83 majors, all of which are connected to Shenzhen's leading industries, pillar industries, strategic emerging industries and advantageous industries; 15 professional groups have been established, each of which contains more than 3 majors, and a dynamic adjustment mechanism for majors with industries has been established, and the professional (group) structure is reasonable.
Faculty: Student-teacher ratio is 16.30:1, part-time teachers account for 30.07%, and part-time teachers take professional courses account for 22.34%; the total number of full-time teachers is 1,463, of which 90.43% have master's degrees or above, 49.35% have senior professional and technical positions, and 167 have senior professional and technical positions; "dual-qualified" full-time professional course teachers account for 90.41%; 29 national awards or honors have been won in the past five years.
Talent cultivation: Practical teaching hours account for 63.36%; on-the-job internship time reaches more than 6 months; there are 54 industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation projects, and cooperation agreements have been signed with 41 regular enterprises such as Huawei, and 14 characteristic industry colleges have been jointly built with Fortune 500 companies or industry leaders such as Huawei and BYD; 26 national second-class or provincial highest awards for teaching achievement awards have been won in the past two sessions, and 1 special prize for national teaching achievement awards in 2018, achieving a zero breakthrough in special prizes for all levels and types of education in Guangdong Province.
Scientific research and social services: In the past five years, a total of 623 scientific research projects at or above the department level have been approved; the average annual funds for horizontal technical services and training are 50.698 million yuan; the average annual number of non-academic training is 3.4 times the number of full-time students.
Infrastructure: The school currently has six campuses, including Liuxiandong, Xili Lake, Guanlongshan, OCT, Fenghuangshan, and Shenzhen-Shantou Cooperation Zone. The campus covers an area of 4509.48 mu, with an average area of 126.08 square meters per student; the total building area is 791,900 square meters, with an average building area of 33.21 square meters per student; the average teaching, scientific research and administrative area per student is 23.04 square meters; the average value of teaching and scientific research equipment per student is 60,800 yuan; the average number of books per student is 142.61; there are 101 integrated teaching places on campus, 8 production (operation) training bases, and 588 stable internship bases outside the school.
School funding: mainly from the municipal fiscal investment, the school funding is sufficient. In the past three years, the average annual basic construction investment and education expenses are 3.096 billion yuan.
The school has distinct characteristics. The school adheres to the Shenzhen spirit of "daring to try, open and inclusive, pragmatic and law-abiding, and pursuing excellence", and takes the lead in exploring a talent training model with higher vocational characteristics. In October 2019, Sun Chunlan, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, highly affirmed the school's achievements and characteristics when she visited Shenzhen Polytechnic. In November of the same year, according to the instructions of Vice Premier Sun Chunlan, the State Council held a field meeting at Shenzhen Polytechnic to promote the high-quality development of national vocational education. In July 2021, the "six integrations" and "six commons" industry-education deep integration model explored and constructed by Shenzhen Polytechnic was included in the "Shenzhen Experience" for nationwide promotion and reference by the National Development and Reform Commission.
High quality of talent training. The school has trained more than 150,000 full-time graduates, and the initial employment rate of graduates in 2021 is over 99.2%. The employment rate of graduates in Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders, the innovation and entrepreneurship rate of graduates, and the starting salary level of graduates are higher than the national average of similar colleges and universities, and many other talent training quality indicators are among the best in the country's higher vocational colleges.
Outstanding teaching and scientific research results. It has 12 national key demonstration majors, 14 national teaching achievement awards (including 1 special prize and 3 first prizes), 5 national vocational education professional teaching resource libraries, 9 central financial support training bases, 53 national quality courses, and 43 national quality resource sharing courses; it has been approved for 60 provincial, ministerial, municipal and district scientific research platforms, and won 71 provincial and municipal awards. In the past five years, the research funds received were 790 million yuan, with an average of 158 million yuan per year. The total amount of research funds ranks among the top 21 universities in the province.
Strong faculty. The school currently has 1,463 full-time teachers, of which 49.35% have senior professional titles, including 167 senior teachers. 454 high-level talents of all levels and types have been introduced and trained, including 1 national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" teaching master, 2 national teaching masters, 1 expert enjoying special allowance from the State Council, 4 national teaching teams, 6 national technical experts, 5 Pearl River Scholars, 4 Guangdong Province Special Support Plan teaching masters, 7 provincial teaching masters, 17 provincial technical experts, and 11 provincial excellent teaching teams; 1 Nobel Prize team, 3 Yangtze River Scholars and Outstanding Youth teams have been flexibly introduced. The school has one of the first Huang Danian-style teacher teams of the Ministry of Education; a number of heavyweight teams such as the Hoffman Nobel Prize team in the United States have been introduced, and high-end platforms such as the Hoffman Advanced Materials Research Institute, the Intelligent Science and Engineering Research Institute, the Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, the New Era China Vocational Education Research Institute, and the Social and Economic Development Research Institute have been established to provide strong support for the development of industries in the Pearl River Delta.
The school has always taken talent cultivation as its central task, aiming at cultivating compound innovative high-quality technical and skilled talents who can adapt to the needs of the intelligent era, aiming at the future social and economic development, closely following the layout of majors in Shenzhen's four pillar industries and emerging industries, creating brand majors, and cooperating closely with first-class enterprises such as Huawei, ARM, Alibaba, Ping An, BYD, Yutong, and Tianjian to jointly build 14 characteristic industry colleges such as Huawei Information and Network Technology College, ARM Intelligent Hardware College, BYD Applied Technology College, Yutong Digital Graphics College, and Tianjian Construction Engineering College. The school and enterprises jointly formulate professional standards, jointly develop courses, jointly build a teaching team, and jointly cultivate technical and skilled talents, so as to achieve first-class service for first-class enterprises. Professional cultural courses are offered to vigorously cultivate the spirit of craftsmanship, cultivate the culture of craftsmanship, and comprehensively promote the cultural education of vocational colleges. The school has trained more than 150,000 full-time junior college graduates, and the initial employment rate of graduates has always remained above 96%. Through systematic design and scientific construction, we have coordinated the promotion of an advanced entrepreneurial talent training system from enlightenment education, preparatory education, specialized education to guidance for starting a business, built a dual innovation exchange platform of "four conferences, two competitions and three alliances" and a dual innovation practice platform of "innovative societies-maker centers-student creative entrepreneurship parks", and gradually improved the dual innovation service system of cross-border integration, product trial production, entrepreneurship incubation, and venture capital, and achieved good social benefits. In recent years, it has been rated as the first batch of national universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, the national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, the Guangdong Province mass entrepreneurship and innovation demonstration base, and the first batch of Shenzhen's top ten innovation and entrepreneurship bases.
The school attaches importance to social services, gives full play to its brand advantages, and is committed to promoting the construction of a modern vocational education and training system and a learning society. Provide high-level teacher training and build a world-class vocational education and training center; provide vocational training, vocational skills appraisal and vocational qualification certification to serve the needs of local economic development; jointly establish community colleges and specialty colleges with community streets to carry out health, elderly care, tourism and other training projects for community residents to serve the needs of local social development; take the output of school philosophy and teaching model as the main content, build a four-in-one precise assistance system of "concept-teaching-teachers-management" to serve the development of counterpart support areas and colleges. In 2021, we will focus on counterpart support for 13 vocational colleges, and provide counterpart support for more than 200 vocational colleges in 13 provinces and autonomous regions such as Tibet, Xinjiang and Guizhou. We will establish community colleges such as Xili Community College and Dapeng Tourism College to cultivate skilled talents with the community and create a "vocational education special zone" with open schooling and integration of industry and education; select a core team to build and manage Ji'an Vocational and Technical College, creating a model for the special zone and the old district to work together to develop vocational education.
The school closely follows the national development strategy, accelerates the pace of internationalization, makes full use of regional and own advantages, and deepens international education exchanges and cooperation. Since its establishment, the university has established friendly cooperative relations with 181 universities and educational institutions in 40 countries and regions, including developed countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and the United States, as well as 16 countries along the "Belt and Road" such as New Zealand, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Myanmar, and Laos. The two sides have carried out all-round, multi-level, and diverse international exchange activities for teachers and students in the fields of student exchange, curriculum cooperation, scientific research cooperation, and short-term training, and have achieved fruitful results. It has opened four Sino-foreign cooperative education majors: International Business (China-Australia), Financial Management (China-Australia), Logistics Management (China-US) and Software Technology (China-US); and co-organized a cooperative course for the Higher Diploma in Electrical Service Engineering with the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education Huang Haking Branch. Graduates have obtained graduation qualifications in both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and have become the first batch of higher vocational colleges qualified to recruit overseas students and the first higher vocational college approved to recruit students independently from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The school has also joined hands with a number of world-class companies such as ZTE and China Merchants Port to "go global" and serve the country's "Belt and Road" initiative. A vocational education and training center was established at the University of Applied Sciences in Malacca, Malaysia, to promote the full connection of all types of vocational colleges in Malaysia with the standards of Shenzhen Polytechnic. Relying on the vocational education and training center established in Bulgaria, the school's professional standards were exported. Special training courses were held for vocational education delegations from Cambodia, Mongolia and other countries at the invitation of the school to export vocational education experience. The school strengthened cooperation with international organizations of vocational education, became one of the UNESCO International Vocational Education Global Contact Centers, and was approved to establish the UNESCO Vocational Education Program Asia-Africa Research and Training Center. While improving the school's international reputation and influence, it has made positive contributions to promoting the development of Chinese vocational education and language and culture.
The school has made remarkable achievements in running schools. In 2001, it was the first to pass the excellent evaluation of the national demonstration higher vocational college practice teaching base. In 2009, it passed the acceptance of the national demonstration higher vocational college construction project, becoming the first batch of national demonstration schools in the field of higher vocational education in my country.
