Dongguan Institute of Technology is the first general undergraduate college in Dongguan, jointly built by the province and the city, with the city as the main body. Nobel Prize winner in Physics Dr. Yang Zhenning serves as the honorary president.

  2. It was established in April 1992 with the approval of the former State Education Commission.
  3. It was changed to a full-time undergraduate general college in March 2002 with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

  5. It passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education in May 2008.
  6. In June 2010, it was approved as the first batch of "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" implementing universities of the Ministry of Education together with 61 universities including Tsinghua University.
  7. In September 2015, it was identified as a high-level science and engineering university construction unit supported by Guangdong Province.
  8. In May 2018, it was identified as a newly added master's degree awarding unit.
  9. In November 2018, the university science and technology park of the school was selected as the "National University Science and Technology Park Cultivation Unit".
  10. In July 2019, it became the only provincial and municipal demonstration school of new high-level science and engineering universities in the province.
  11. In 2020, it was successfully selected into the list of the first batch of national intellectual property pilot universities.

There are two campuses, Songshan Lake and Guancheng. The Songshan Lake campus is located at No. 1 University Road, Songshan Lake High-tech Industrial Development Zone, covering an area of ​​more than 1,800 acres (including 370 acres of international cooperation innovation zone); the Guancheng campus is located at No. 251 College Road, Guancheng District, covering an area of ​​more than 330 acres. There are 1,732 faculty and staff, including 180 senior professional titles, 387 associate senior professional titles, and 797 doctors. There are nearly 20,000 ordinary full-time students and nearly 22,000 continuing education students. So far, it has trained about 115,000 talents of various types for the local area, and about 80% of graduates stay in Guancheng for employment and entrepreneurship.

The total construction area of ​​the library is 45,020 square meters, with a total collection of 2.01 million books, 35 databases, 1.72 million electronic books and other digital resources. A 10G bandwidth backbone and two 40G backbones have been built, and an IPV6 campus network with a 1G bandwidth to the desktop has been basically realized. There are 38,000 information points, and a wireless campus network covering the entire school has been built. There are more than 6,600 APs and an export bandwidth of 37.5G; the smart campus has 129 information systems, providing rich, convenient and fast information services for all teachers and students in the school.

There are 17 experimental teaching centers, including 10 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. A discipline and professional system with engineering as the focus and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as management, literature, science, economics, law, and education has been established. There are 18 colleges and 58 undergraduate majors. 10 majors including communication engineering, software engineering, social work, electronic information engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, computer science and technology, applied chemistry, energy and power engineering, environmental engineering, and business administration have been selected as the first batch of national first-class professional construction, and 5 majors including engineering management, industrial engineering, Chinese language and literature, international economics and trade, and human resources management have been selected as first-class professional construction points in Guangdong Province.

Actively adapt to and support the social and economic transformation and industrial development, and establish the training goal of "adhering to the unity of knowledge and action, cultivating people with moral integrity, and focusing on cultivating high-quality application-oriented innovative talents who are brave to take responsibility, good at learning, and dare to surpass the needs of modern industrial development". The first "Yang Zhenning Innovation Class" in China was opened to cultivate top innovative talents. Dongguan Institute of Technology-Wenhua Digital Course Center won the "Excellent Case of Industry-University Cooperation and Collaborative Education" of the Ministry of Education. In 2020, it won 3 first prizes and 1 second prize in the Guangdong Provincial Education and Teaching Achievement Award. It hosted the 17th National University Student Robot Competition ROBOCON and won the third place. Every year, 10 million yuan of special funds are allocated to support innovation and entrepreneurship activities. The school has been identified as the third batch of "Easy Class" construction pilot universities by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education.

Enroll students from 25 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country, and the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in 14 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) (including provinces that have been reformed). Since 2005, the school (including the joint training base) has recruited 767 joint training master's students, 9 international joint training doctoral students, and 493 master's students for the school's degree programs. In May 2018, the school was approved as a newly added master's degree authorization unit, and was approved for three master's degree authorization points, including computer science and technology, resources and environment, and machinery. In July 2021, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee issued the "2020 Review Results of New First-level Discipline Master's Degrees in Existing Doctoral and Master's Degree-granting Institutions" and "2020 Review Results of New Professional Degree Master's Degrees in Existing Doctoral and Master's Degree-granting Institutions". The school was approved for 1 first-level discipline master's degree - civil engineering, and 7 professional degree master's degrees - international business, social work, electronic information, materials and chemical engineering, energy and power, civil engineering and water conservancy, biology and medicine. Six key disciplines of Guangdong Province, including chemical engineering, circuits and systems, computer application technology, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, power engineering and engineering thermal physics, and mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, cyberspace security, civil engineering and other disciplines are included in the key construction disciplines of the Provincial Department of Education of "striving for first-class, making up for shortcomings, and strengthening characteristics". The school's engineering and materials science disciplines are among the top 1% in the ESI global ranking. Mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, electronic information engineering, applied chemistry, software engineering, environmental engineering, and communication engineering have obtained IEET engineering education professional certification certificates.

Expand overseas cooperation and exchanges to form a diversified international school-running pattern
So far, the school has established cooperation and exchange relations with 58 universities and research institutions in 25 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and France.

In 2015, the first Guangdong-Taiwan joint training project in Guangdong Province was established-Guangdong-Taiwan Industrial Technology College.

In 2016, the International College was established, becoming the first local university in Dongguan City to recruit foreign students, and a total of 402 international students from 40 countries were recruited.

In 2017, it was approved to establish the Ministry of Education's Sino-foreign cooperative education institution-Dongguan Institute of Technology-France National Institute of Technology Joint College.

In 2018, the International Joint Graduate School was established, and joint doctoral student training was carried out with the world's top 100 universities such as the University of Nottingham, the University of New South Wales, and the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Actively participated in the national "Belt and Road" initiative, and as a co-construction member of the "China-Latin America Clean Energy and Climate Change Joint Laboratory", it reached cooperation with 8 Latin American universities (research institutions) in 5 countries including Cuba and Brazil.
