The Wildpro® Electronic Encyclopedia is designed to be a one-stop source of information on captive and free-living wildlife health and management, as well as emerging infectious diseases. Due to the breadth of the Encyclopedia and the depth of information, Wildpro® was developed as a series of volumes, each of which can be used individually (provided on CD-ROM) or as part of the entire Encyclopedia (available on the website).
Individual Wildpro® volumes are based on a species or group of species (e.g. Hedgehogs: Health and Management, Waterfowl: Health and Management), a disease (e.g. Foot-and-Mouth Disease, West Nile Virus), or a group of techniques (e.g. Wildlife: First Aid and Care, Wildlife: Disease Investigation and Management (Birds)).
All data in the Wildpro® Encyclopedia is fully referenced, with volumes and pages reviewed by experts in the relevant fields. Hyperlinks are used to indicate where more information can be found and where two pieces of information logically relate to each other. A large glossary provides definitions of specialized terms. Classification trees provide information for all kingdoms of life, with varying levels of detail: for mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, at least a list of the given family or genus is provided.
The Wildpro® electronic library contains more than 200 documents, ranging in size from single-page fact sheets or pamphlets to entire books, such as the 1910 classic textbook Elephants and Their Diseases by GH Evans, Field Manual of Wildlife Diseases (National Wildlife Health Center, U.S. Geological Survey), and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trusts Wetlands, Wildlife, and Industry: A Manual of Principles and Practices. Some documents are available in portable document format (.pdf files) and some as web pages (some are available in both formats).
This library is a great resource for anyone interested in wildlife health and management or emerging infectious diseases. It brings together a wealth of information from a variety of sources. Relevant documents link directly to the main Wildpro® encyclopedia.
Many of these documents are difficult to find. While some documents can be found elsewhere on the web, others are not available electronically outside of this library, and some are out of print. Copyright holders have allowed us to reproduce these documents in the Wildpro® Library, which increases their accessibility.
Each document is made available in the Wildpro® Library with permission from the copyright holder, in which case the copyright remains with the creator, or is in the public domain.
