Yanshan University

Yanshan University is a national key university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is a national first-class university and a world-class discipline construction university supported by Hebei Province, and a member of the Beijing High-tech University Alliance.

The school originated from Harbin Institute of Technology, which was founded in 1920. In 1958, Harbin Institute of Technology responded to the call of the country and moved heavy machinery and related majors to Fulaerji District, Qiqihar City, an industrial town, and established Harbin Institute of Technology Fulaerji Branch. The branch was first named Harbin Institute of Technology Fulaerji Heavy Machinery College and later renamed Harbin Institute of Technology Heavy Machinery College. In 1960, it became an independent school named Northeast Heavy Machinery College and became a university directly under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1978, it was identified as a national key university. From 1985 to 1997, the school moved south to Qinhuangdao City. In 1997, it was renamed Yanshan University with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 1998, it was transferred from the former Ministry of Machinery Industry to Hebei Province, and the central and local governments jointly built it, with Hebei Province as the main management. In 2000, Hebei Light Industry Management School was merged into Yanshan University.

The school has 26 majors selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. In 2016, as one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, the school's engineering major national certification accepted the observation and inspection of international experts of the Washington Accord, supporting my country's formal joining of the Washington Accord International Engineering Education Organization. The school currently has 15 engineering majors that have passed the engineering education professional certification (assessment), which means that the quality of talent training in these majors has been internationally recognized and entered the "first echelon" of global engineering education.

The school covers an area of ​​4,000 acres and a building area of ​​1.06 million square meters. There are currently 38,000 students in general higher education. There are 3,200 faculty members, including 2,200 full-time teachers, including 509 professors and 678 associate professors. There are 376 doctoral supervisors among the teachers. There are 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 member of the State Council Discipline Evaluation Group, 6 candidates for the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 14 distinguished professors of the "Changjiang Scholars Program" and young scholars of the "Changjiang Scholars Program", and 25 winners of the National Outstanding Youth and Excellent Youth Science Fund.

The school has 11 postdoctoral mobile stations, 14 first-level doctoral disciplines, 2 professional doctoral degree categories, 30 first-level master's degree disciplines, 18 professional master's degree categories, and 67 undergraduate majors. It has formed a discipline pattern with engineering as the main subject and eight disciplines such as literature, science, economics, management, law, art, and education developing together; it has 5 national key disciplines, 5 national defense characteristic disciplines and 16 provincial key disciplines, and 4 disciplines of engineering, materials science, chemistry, and computer science are among the top 1% in the world in the ESI ranking. In the fourth round of national subject evaluation, 8 subjects received B-level or above evaluation results, among which mechanical engineering was A-level, ranking in the top 10% in the country, and materials science and engineering was B+, ranking in the top 20% in the country.

The university has a graduate school and 17 directly affiliated colleges, namely the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Science and Engineering (School of Software), the School of Economics and Management, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Architectural Engineering and Mechanics, the School of Liberal Arts (School of Public Administration), the School of Marxism, the School of Science, the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, the School of Art and Design, the School of Vehicle and Energy, the School of Physical Education, the Liren College, the School of International Education, and the School of Continuing Education.

The university has built the National Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Preparation Technology and Science, the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Cold-rolled Strip Equipment and Process, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Advanced Manufacturing Forming Technology and Equipment, the National Defense Key Discipline Laboratory of Mechanical Structure and Materials Science under Extreme Conditions, the National Demonstration Base for the Training of Innovative Talents, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Control Systems and Intelligent Equipment, the Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction Collaborative Innovation Center, the National Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution, 3 Hebei Province Collaborative Innovation Centers, and 43 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering technology research centers, and social science research bases; it has a National University Science and Technology Park and Yanshan University Press.

The university has an internationally advanced level in the research fields of heavy machinery complete sets of equipment, metastable materials science and technology, parallel robot theory and technology, fluid transmission and electro-hydraulic servo control technology, industrial automation control theory and technology, precision plastic forming technology, large forging forging process and heat treatment technology, mechanical structure and materials science under extreme conditions. Since 2000, the university has won 20 national science and technology awards, including 2 first prizes, 9 second prizes, 5 second prizes of national technological inventions, and 4 second prizes of national natural sciences. It has undertaken 970 projects of "973", "863", national key research and development plans, National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation. In 2013 and 2014, the university had two scientific research results selected as "Top Ten Advances in Chinese Science" and "Top Ten Scientific Advances in Chinese Universities".

The university actively complies with the needs of the development of the new era, new technology and new economy, actively promotes the cross-integration and coordinated development of scientific research, and lays out emerging research fields and research directions. With the goal of comprehensively improving scientific and technological innovation capabilities and producing first-class scientific research results, it focuses on the layout and construction of "three research institutes and three centers", namely the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research Institute, the Marine Science and Engineering Research Institute, the Health Care Industry Technology Research Institute, the High-Pressure Science Research Center, the Nano Energy Materials Research Center, and the Special Transportation Equipment Research Center. The construction of these new research institutions will play an important role in creating academic peaks, cultivating top talents, leading scientific and technological innovation, and promoting industrial development.
