Zhejiang Gongshang University is located in the beautiful Hangzhou. Its predecessor was the Hangzhou Secondary Commercial School founded in 1911. It was a pioneer in commercial education in our province at the beginning of its establishment and one of the earliest commercial schools in my country. In 1980, Hangzhou Business School was established with the approval of the State Council, and in 2004, it was renamed Zhejiang Gongshang University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. For more than a hundred years, the school has been adhering to the tradition of running a business school. Especially since it was changed from a school directly under the Ministry of Commerce to a "central and local co-construction, mainly local management" in 1998, the school has insisted on taking the road of characteristic school-running, focusing on economics and management disciplines, and coordinating the development of multiple disciplines such as law and engineering, and the level of school-running has been continuously improved. In 2015, the school was identified as a university jointly built by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Education. In 2017, the school was identified as a key university in Zhejiang Province, and the disciplines of statistics and business administration were selected into the list of provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines.

The school consists of three campuses: Xiasha, Jiaogong Road and Tonglu, covering an area of ​​1.8267 million square meters. The school currently has more than 2,600 faculty and staff, including more than 2,100 full-time teachers, more than 130 doctoral supervisors, more than 380 senior professional titles, more than 650 associate senior professional titles, and more than 1,130 doctors. It has high-level talents such as dual-appointed academicians, Yangtze River Scholars, National Outstanding Youths, National Excellent Youths, Zhejiang Province Special Experts, National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan", National Candidates of the Hundred Thousand Talents Project, New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, National Cultural Celebrities and "Four Ones" Talents, and National Propaganda, Ideology and Culture Young Talents. There are more than 26,800 full-time undergraduates, more than 5,100 postgraduates of various types, more than 990 international students, and more than 20,000 students of various higher education and continuing education.

The school has a complete range of disciplines, with 71 undergraduate majors, covering 9 major categories including economics, management, law, literature, science, engineering, history, philosophy, and art. It has the right to confer doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees, the right to confer professional master's degrees, and the right to recruit foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The school has 7 first-level doctoral programs, 16 first-level master's programs, 20 professional degree authorization points, and 4 postdoctoral mobile stations. In the results of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation announced by the Degree and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, our school's statistics entered the A-level discipline, and 6 disciplines including business administration, applied economics, foreign languages ​​and literature, food science and engineering, law, and computer science and technology entered the B-level. The evaluation results ranked among the top key universities in Zhejiang Province. Agricultural science, engineering science, computer science, environment/ecology, and chemistry entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, among which agricultural science ranked in the top 4‰.

The school has 34 first-class undergraduate major construction points of the "Double Ten Thousand Plan", including 27 national first-class undergraduate majors and 7 provincial first-class undergraduate majors. There are currently 2 national talent training model innovation experimental zones, 1 national excellent agricultural and forestry (food) talent training base, and 1 national excellent legal talent education and training base. The school has 1 national teaching team, 3 national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 12 national first-class undergraduate courses, 4 national quality courses, 3 national quality video open courses, 3 national quality resource sharing courses, 160 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and 1 MOOC was rated as the first "Most Beautiful MOOC" in the country.

The school has outstanding scientific research and social service achievements, and has won the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Achievement Award for Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Outstanding Achievement Award for Science and Technology for many times. The school actively serves the major strategic decisions of the country and Zhejiang Province, and improves its ability to serve economic and social development. Implement the strategy of strengthening the province through higher education, deepen strategic cooperation with Renmin University of China, and establish the "Zhijiang Big Data Statistics Research Institute" and the "Yangtze River Delta (Pioneer) Law Research Institute". Serve the construction of Zhejiang's "Important Window" and establish an Important Window Research Institute. Serve the marine and health development strategy and establish the Donghai Food Research Institute. Implement the industry-education integration strategy and build Tailong Finance College, China (Hangzhou) Cross-border E-commerce College, etc. with new mechanisms. A number of high-level think tanks have been built, including key research bases and high-level scientific research platforms represented by the Modern Business Research Center, Zhejiang Business Research Institute, Zhejiang Cultural Industry Innovation and Development Research Institute, and Taiwan Research Institute, providing intellectual support and high-end guidance for economic and social development. More than 20 "national" indexes jointly developed by the index research team, local governments, and enterprises are known as economic weathervanes, and 7 indexes are authoritatively released by the Ministry of Commerce's "Business Forecast". The Zhejiang Merchants Museum, sponsored by the school, has hosted the "World Zhejiang Merchants Cultural Forum" for five consecutive years, becoming an important window for displaying the achievements of Zhejiang merchants, spreading Zhejiang merchant culture, and promoting the spirit of Zhejiang merchants.

The "Business Economics and Management" and "Journal of Zhejiang Gongshang University" sponsored by the school are publicly issued at home and abroad, and both have entered the "Four Core Journals" evaluation system, including the "Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI)", "National Chinese Core Journals", "AMI Comprehensive Evaluation (A Journal) Core Journals", and "RCCSE Chinese Core Academic Journals". They were rated as "National University Social Science Famous Journal" and "National University Social Science Excellent Journal", and their impact factors are among the best in the country. Zhejiang Gongshang University Press is one of the three university presses in Zhejiang Province.

The school is an internationalized university in Zhejiang Province. Since 2004, the school has cooperated with the University of Quebec, Canada to train Master of Project Management (MPM). In 2008, the Alliance Française of Zhejiang Gongshang University was established, which is the only partner of the Alliance Française in Zhejiang Province. In 2012, the school cooperated with the University of Applied Sciences West Flanders in Belgium to build a Confucius Institute, which has become the largest Chinese training base in Belgium. In 2019, the school initiated and established the International University Alliance of Food Science and Nutrition (IUCoFSN). In 2020, the School of Artificial Intelligence, established in cooperation with the University of Sussex in the UK, is the first Sino-foreign cooperative institution in this field in China. The school's international students come from 105 countries and regions around the world. It has carried out multi-form and cross-level cooperation and exchanges with more than 200 colleges and scientific research institutions in more than 50 countries including the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea.

In 2004, when Comrade Xi Jinping, then Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, visited our school, he said: "Zhejiang Gongshang University plays a pivotal role in the talent training work in Zhejiang Province.
