Zhejiang Sci-Tech University

Zhejiang Sci-Tech University is located in the historical and cultural city of Hangzhou. The school has a long history. Its predecessor, Sericulture Hall, was founded in 1897 by Lin Qi, the governor of Hangzhou, to realize the ambition of saving the country through industry and education. It is one of the earliest new educational institutions in my country. In 1908, due to its outstanding achievements in running schools, it was upgraded to "Higher Sericulture School" by the imperial approval of the Qing government. From the Revolution of 1911 to the eve of liberation, due to the turbulent times, the school changed its name and moved its site several times. It has survived and persisted in running schools in the vicissitudes of life. After the founding of New China, the school continued to forge ahead and drew a new chapter in history. The school began to recruit undergraduate students in 1959, was named Zhejiang Silk Institute of Technology by the State Council in 1964, began to recruit postgraduate students in 1979, and obtained the right to confer master's degrees in 1983. In 1999, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Zhejiang Engineering College. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. In 2006, it obtained the right to confer doctoral degrees. In 2010, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was qualified to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination. In 2017, the school was selected as a key university in Zhejiang Province.

Today's Zhejiang Sci-Tech University is a provincial key university with engineering as its main focus, distinctive characteristics, outstanding advantages, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, literature, economics, management, law, art, and education. The school has 18 colleges (teaching and research departments) and 1 independent college. There are more than 34,000 full-time students, including more than 6,400 postgraduates. The school currently has 58 undergraduate majors, including 19 national first-class undergraduate major construction points in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan", 8 national (Ministry of Education) characteristic majors, 1 Ministry of Education comprehensive reform pilot major, 6 Ministry of Education "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" pilot majors, 3 "Ministry of Education-Autodesk Professional Comprehensive Reform Project", 10 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan", 7 provincial advantage majors in the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", 5 provincial characteristic majors, 7 majors that have passed the engineering education certification of the Ministry of Education, 1 major that has passed the professional evaluation (certification) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and 1 major that has passed the certification of the Yangtze River Delta New Liberal Arts Education Professional Certification Alliance. It has 6 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 25 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 17 master's professional degree categories, and 3 postdoctoral research mobile stations. It has 2 provincial key construction university advantage and characteristic disciplines, 6 provincial first-class disciplines of Class A, and 6 first-class disciplines of Class B; the disciplines of chemistry, materials science and engineering are among the top 5‰ in the ESI global ranking. It has 2 national-local joint engineering laboratories, 1 national-local joint engineering research center, 3 national international science and technology cooperation bases, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 collaborative innovation center jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the province, 1 engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 12 provincial key laboratories and engineering technology research centers, 7 provincial engineering laboratories and engineering research centers, 5 textile industry key laboratories of the China Textile Industry Federation, 1 mechanical industry key laboratory of the China Machinery Industry Federation, 4 provincial 2011 collaborative innovation centers, 2 provincial key research bases of philosophy and social sciences, 1 provincial research base of the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, 7 provincial international science and technology cooperation bases [including 2 provincial "Belt and Road" international joint laboratories (research centers)], 2 provincial soft science research bases, 1 provincial technology innovation center, 1 provincial key industry technology alliance, 1 provincial academician and expert workstation, 1 national technology transfer demonstration institution, and 1 provincial key science and technology intermediary service institution. It has 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national engineering practice education centers, 3 national virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, 1 national off-campus practice education base for college students, 2 provincial key modern industrial colleges, 1 national mass innovation space, 3 provincial off-campus practice education bases for college students, and 3 provincial mass innovation spaces. The school was selected as the National College Practice Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, the Top 50 Universities with Typical Experience in Graduate Employment, the Top 50 Universities with Typical Experience in Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Ministry of Education, and the Provincial Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Demonstration Base. It has 4 national high-quality video open courses, 12 national first-class courses, 5 national high-quality resource sharing courses, 2 national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, 2 English-taught brand courses for international students in China of the Ministry of Education, 7 "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" national planning textbooks, and 3 second prizes for national teaching achievements.

The school has a strong faculty, with 2,496 faculty and staff, including 328 with senior professional titles and 679 with associate senior professional titles. The school strives to enhance its scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and has completed a series of national science and technology plan projects and national, provincial and ministerial fund research projects in many fields, and has won 8 second prizes in national technological inventions, 8 second prizes in national science and technology progress, 1 third prize in national science and technology progress, 1 Lu Xun Literature Award, 2 science and technology innovation awards from the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, and 194 provincial and ministerial awards since 2016. The comprehensive indicators of scientific and technological work have always been among the top universities in Zhejiang Province.

The school adheres to open education and has established cooperative relations with 155 educational and scientific research institutions in 46 countries and regions. It has held 4 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects with North Carolina State University and Fashion Institute of Technology of State University of New York, and co-built 2 Confucius Institutes with the University of Mauritius and the University of Suriname. The education of international students has developed rapidly.
