Ningbo Institute of Technology is a full-time general undergraduate college organized by the Ningbo Municipal People's Government. It was founded in 1983. It covers an area of ​​1,800 acres and is divided into Fenghua Campus, Cuibai Campus and Hangzhou Bay Campus. There are 13 secondary teaching units, 45 undergraduate majors and 24 first-level disciplines; 1,117 faculty members, 875 full-time teachers, 102 senior professional titles, 264 associate senior professional titles, and 343 doctoral degrees; there are more than 13,800 full-time undergraduate students.

The school adheres to the application-oriented school-running positioning and the goal of building a high-level application-oriented university, actively explores the characteristic development path of local application-oriented undergraduate colleges, and adheres to the implementation of the "two-wheel drive" strategy and the talent-strengthening school strategy. In 2010, it was listed by the Ministry of Education as one of the first batch of universities implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program". In 2014, it became the chairman unit of the first Yangtze River Delta Region Applied Undergraduate University Alliance Council. In 2015, it became a pilot demonstration university for applied construction in Zhejiang Province. In 2016, it was selected as a university for the national industry-education integration development project and was elected as the first chairman unit of the provincial applied undergraduate university alliance. In 2020, it ranked 297th in the main list of the Soft Science China University Rankings and ranked 3rd among non-master's undergraduate universities nationwide.

The school attaches great importance to discipline construction, insists on engineering as the main discipline, and coordinates the development of multiple disciplines in liberal arts, science, economics, and management. Disciplines and majors are closely integrated with local industries, focusing on the construction of advantageous disciplines such as civil engineering, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, and management science and engineering, and closely connecting with Ningbo's "246" trillion-level industries such as green petrochemicals and automobile manufacturing. At the same time, the school aims at international engineer training standards, promotes international substantive equivalence of talent training through professional certification, and 11 majors have passed professional certification. We have vigorously promoted discipline construction, cultivated 6 provincial first-class disciplines and 7 municipal key disciplines, selected 4 key professional degree categories, and achieved breakthrough results in the cultivation and construction of master's degree programs. The school's provincial scientific research platform has been established from scratch, and 5 provincial platforms have been approved. Teaching reform and professional construction have been fruitful. Three majors, civil engineering, computer science and technology, and chemical engineering and technology, have been selected as national first-class undergraduate professional construction points, 1 major has been selected as a national characteristic major, 8 majors have been selected as provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction points, and 4 majors have been selected as provincial advantageous and characteristic majors. The first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses and 19 provincial first-class courses have been identified. The school has been identified as a "Zhejiang Classroom Teaching Innovation School".

The school explores and implements the "double integration of science, education, industry and education" talent training model to cultivate compound talents with applied research capabilities and applied practical capabilities. The employment rate of graduates in 2020 reached 95.46%, and the admission rate of postgraduate entrance examinations in 2020 reached 13.46%. The school focuses on cultivating students' practical ability and actively organizes students to participate in various subject competitions. The results of subject competitions have been improved year by year, and it has repeatedly won good results in international and national science and technology competitions: it ranked 187th in the evaluation results of national general colleges and universities (undergraduate) subject competitions from 2016 to 2020, ranked fourth among newly built undergraduate colleges in the country, and ranked first in Zhejiang Province. The "Aquamarine" Maker Space was approved as a national maker space and a provincial entrepreneurship park demonstration base. It has co-built, researched and trained with the industry (enterprises), and has trained nearly 60,000 students in the past 37 years, of which nearly 60% stayed in Ningbo to serve the local area.

The school strengthens the construction of scientific research bases and teams, and vigorously carries out applied research and technological development. It has won 1 National Science and Technology Award and 25 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards (including first-level industry association/society awards). A number of high-level papers have been published in domestic high-level journals and international top journals. It has undertaken more than 200 provincial and ministerial projects. In 2017, it won the bid for the key project of Made in China 2025 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. In 2019, the amount of funds for the major special project of "Science and Technology Innovation 2025" in the city ranked first among all universities in the city. In 2020, it won 1 municipal top talent project.

The school is fully integrated into the local economic and social development. By promoting the integration of industry and education and school-enterprise cooperation, it cultivates high-level application-oriented talents for regional development and provides high-level applied technology research. We have jointly established the Engineering Soft Soil Experimental Center of Ningbo Institute of Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering, with the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; jointly trained postgraduates with Jilin University, Taiyuan University of Technology, Chang'an University, etc.; jointly established the Applied Technology University Research Center with Xiamen University; jointly established the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering with the Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sinopec Zhenhai Refining and Chemical, and Ningbo Safety Supervision Bureau; jointly established the School of Architecture and Transportation Engineering with Ningbo Transportation Commission, Ningbo Traffic Police Corps, Ningbo Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission, and Ningbo Construction Group; jointly established the School of Robotics with Professor Li Zexiang's team; jointly established the Xiangshan Research Institute, Fenghua Research Institute, Sanmen Research Institute, China-Ukraine New Materials Research Institute and Ningbo Airport Economy Research Institute, etc.; jointly established the "Government, Industry, University and Research" talent training education alliance in the form of a council with the Hangzhou Bay Management Committee, Volkswagen and Geely Automobile; implemented the "Double Hundred Project" of 100 doctors (professors) serving 100 enterprises, and nearly 100 doctors (professors) have entered enterprises. At the press conference of the Ministry of Education in April 2018, it was named as one of the three typical applied universities in the country and praised that "the integration of industry and education has achieved remarkable results, and its ability to serve local industrial development has been significantly improved, which has been widely praised by local governments, employers and students".

The school has carried out extensive foreign cooperation, learned from advanced foreign experience, and strengthened its outward-looking school-running characteristics. In 1984, it was listed by the Ministry of Education as one of the four universities assisted by the Federal Republic of Germany. At present, the process of internationalization of school-running is accelerating, and it has established stable and long-term inter-school cooperation relations with nearly 100 colleges and universities in more than 30 countries. To enhance the level of cooperation in the China-US 4+0 project, in accordance with the goal of "strengthening management, doing a good job in science, and entering engineering", it cooperates with Delaware State University and Wayne State University in the United States to hold accounting, information technology (big data), mechanical engineering and other majors. In 2015, the Confucius Classroom was officially opened in Grenada.

The school has good comprehensive school-running conditions, complete infrastructure, and the total value of existing teaching and scientific research equipment is 515 million yuan. Among the full-time teachers, there is 1 fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, 1 foreign academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Engineering, 1 young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions in the province, 1 provincial "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" science and technology innovation leader, 2 "Qianjiang Scholars" specially appointed professors, 8 first- and second-level training personnel of the provincial 151 Talent Project, 2 provincial college teaching masters, 3 provincial college outstanding teachers, and 6 municipal outstanding contribution experts. Construct a "dual-teacher" structure teaching staff, and professional teachers with "dual teachers and dual abilities" account for 70%.
