Zhejiang Media College is a university jointly established by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Radio and Television. It is a high-level media college with distinctive industry characteristics. On September 8, 2004, Comrade Xi Jinping, then Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, visited the school for inspection and guidance, and put forward the ardent hope of "keeping up with the times and highlighting characteristics". The school has a history of more than 40 years, from the establishment of Zhejiang Radio and Television School in 1978, Zhejiang Radio and Television College in 1984, the merger of the two schools in 2000 to form the new Zhejiang Radio and Television College, and the upgrading to Zhejiang Media College in 2004. There are currently two campuses in Hangzhou Qiantang and Tongxiang Wuzhen, covering an area of ​​1,305 acres and a total construction area of ​​642,000 square meters. It has 16 secondary colleges (departments, centers), more than 14,500 students and about 1,400 faculty and staff. It has won the titles of "National Civilized Unit", "National Party Member Education and Training Demonstration Base", "National Language and Writing Promotion Base", "National Graduate Employment Typical Experience University", and "National Language and Writing Standardization Demonstration School".

The school has the right to confer master's and bachelor's degrees. The disciplines cover six categories including art, literature, engineering, education, management, and economics. There are three provincial first-class disciplines in drama and film, journalism and communication, and information and communication engineering. There are three professional degree authorization points for Master of Journalism and Communication, Master of Arts, and Master of Chinese International Education. There are 41 undergraduate majors (directions), including 23 art majors. Nine majors, including radio and television, digital media technology, radio and television editing and directing, film and television photography and production, editing and publishing, cultural industry management, broadcasting and hosting art, animation, photography, etc., are national first-class professional construction points, and nine majors, including network and new media, radio and television engineering, drama and film literature, drama and film art design, music performance, communication, network engineering, recording art, and digital media art, are provincial first-class professional construction points.

The school currently has 2 national teaching platforms, 11 provincial teaching platforms, and 4 provincial teaching teams. In the past five years, it has won 4 provincial teaching achievement awards, undertaken 1 new engineering research and practice project of the Ministry of Education, 1 new liberal arts research and reform practice project of the Ministry of Education, 42 provincial education and teaching reform projects, 14 provincial curriculum ideological and political teaching projects, published 4 national planning textbooks and 41 provincial textbooks, and obtained 6 national first-class courses and 109 provincial first-class courses.
