Ningbo University

Ningbo University was founded in 1986 with donations from Mr. Pao Yue-Kong, the world's shipping magnate. Comrade Deng Xiaoping wrote the name of the school. It is a national "double first-class" university, a university jointly built by Zhejiang Province, the Ministry of Education, and Ningbo City, a university jointly built by the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo City, and one of the first batch of key universities in Zhejiang Province. During his tenure as the head of Zhejiang, General Secretary Xi Jinping instructed: "I hope that Ningbo University will strive to build itself into a first-class local comprehensive university in China, and make new and greater contributions to Zhejiang's construction of an innovative province and the construction of a socialist harmonious society."

During the process of its establishment and development, the school has received the care, support and help of party committees and governments at all levels, the "Ningbo Gang" at home and abroad, and all sectors of society. At the beginning of its establishment, the university was assisted by Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, and the former Hangzhou University, and started its school-running journey from a high starting point; in 1992, it was included in the first batch of colleges and universities for national college enrollment; in 1995, it passed the first batch of undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of the former State Education Commission; in 1996, the former Ningbo University, Ningbo Normal University and Ningbo Branch of Zhejiang Fisheries College merged to form the new Ningbo University; in 2000, it was listed as a provincial key construction university by the Zhejiang Provincial Government; in 2011, it became a university jointly built by the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo City; in 2012, it became a university jointly built by Zhejiang Province, the Ministry of Education, and Ningbo City; in 2015, it was selected as the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province; in 2017, it was selected as a national "double first-class" construction university.

After several generations of hard work and entrepreneurship, the school has become a comprehensive teaching and research university, and its comprehensive strength ranks among the top 100 universities in the country. It has 11 disciplines, including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. It has the right to recommend master's students without examination, the qualification to recruit international students to come to China with the Chinese government scholarship and the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship, and the qualification to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. There are 18,513 full-time undergraduates, 9,919 postgraduates (including 195 overseas postgraduates), 1,741 international students (including 1,603 degree students), and 13,327 students in higher education and continuing education. There are 3,063 faculty and staff (including 2,059 teaching and research personnel), of which 530 have senior professional and technical positions, 704 have deputy senior professional and technical positions, and 1,556 have doctoral degrees. The school vigorously promotes innovative and entrepreneurial education. The school vigorously promotes exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It has carried out inter-school academic and educational exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University, and signed inter-school academic exchange and cooperation agreements with 34 Taiwanese universities including the National Taiwan Ocean University, Tamkang University, and Soochow University. In 1993, it pioneered the exchange and mutual visits of college students across the Taiwan Strait, with 25 mutual visits between college students in Ningbo and Taiwan. The mutual visit and training activities between college students in Ningbo and Hong Kong carried out with the Chinese University of Hong Kong were listed as expert projects of the Ministry of Education.
