Central South University

Central South University is located in Changsha, Hunan Province, a famous historical and cultural city in China, covering an area of ​​3.17 million square meters. It straddles the two sides of the Xiangjiang River, is close to the towering Yuelu Mountain, and faces the surging Xiang River. It has an elegant environment and pleasant scenery, making it an ideal place for learning and studying.

Central South University was formed in April 2000 by the merger of the former Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway Institute and Central South University of Technology. The predecessor of the former Central South University of Technology was the Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, which was founded in 1952, and the predecessor of the former Changsha Railway Institute was the Central South Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, which was founded in 1953. The main disciplines of the two schools can be traced back to the mining and road sciences of the Hunan Higher Industrial School founded in 1903. The predecessor of the former Hunan Medical University was the Xiangya Medical School founded in 1914, which is one of the earliest Western medical colleges in my country.

The school has a complete range of disciplines, including non-ferrous metals, medicine, rail transportation and other disciplines, covering 10 major disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art, and radiates military science. The school is an independent degree authorization review unit.

The school's 17 disciplines, including materials science, engineering, clinical medicine, computer science, chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, neuroscience and behavior, mathematics, molecular biology and genetics, general social sciences, immunology, psychiatry and psychology, earth science, environmental science and ecology, agricultural science, and physics, are among the top 1% of basic scientific indicators in the world, among which materials science, engineering, clinical medicine, computer science, and chemistry are among the top 1‰ in the world; it has three large-scale tertiary-level A-class comprehensive hospitals, Xiangya Hospital, Xiangya Second Hospital, and Xiangya Third Hospital, which are known as "Southern Xiangya", and Xiangya Stomatological Hospital.

There are 50 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 49 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 13 courses on the international MOOC platform. The university has been approved to build two 2.0 bases for the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Basic Disciplines Student Cultivation Program, two national clinical teaching and training demonstration centers, eight national teaching teams, 18 national engineering practice education centers, eight national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 12 national off-campus practice education bases for college students, and 24 national teaching achievement awards. It was the first in China to establish an innovative senior engineering talent experimental class and became one of the first pilot universities for the Ministry of Education's education and training programs for outstanding engineers, outstanding physicians, and outstanding legal talents. It was selected as one of the first pilot universities for the Ministry of Education's "Strengthening Basics Program" and a pilot university for eight-year medical education (doctoral degree in medicine). It is the first university in the country to train active military officers with integrated command and technical master's degrees. It was selected as one of the first batch of universities with typical graduate employment experience in the country, the first batch of demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in the country, and a national demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation, becoming one of the 10 most popular universities among my country's top 100 companies.

Since 2000, the school has won 109 national science and technology awards, including 18 national science and technology first prizes (special prizes), and 10 projects have been selected.

It has established long-term cooperative relations with more than 260 universities and research institutions in more than 50 countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, and Russia. There are currently international students from more than 100 countries and regions studying at the school.
