Lanzhou University of Technology is located in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province. It is a university jointly established by the Gansu Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is one of the first batch of high-level universities in Gansu Province. It is a university selected for the Basic Capacity Construction Project of Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China, the National College Students' Innovation Experimental Program, and the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Program. It is a national defense education specialty school.

The predecessor of the school was the Gansu Provincial Technical School founded in 1919; in 1958, on the basis of the establishment of Lanzhou Institute of Technology, Gansu Jiaotong University was merged and named Gansu University of Technology; in 1965, the school was assigned to the First Ministry of Machinery Industry, and at the same time, the hydraulic machinery, chemical machinery, oil field machinery and welding technology and equipment majors of Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute and Beijing Institute of Machinery were all moved in, and a group of teachers were transferred from Hunan University and Hefei University of Technology to work in the school; in 1998, it was transformed into a "central and local co-construction, mainly local management" college; in 2003, it was officially renamed Lanzhou University of Technology. The university currently has 19 colleges, 1 teaching and research department, a graduate school, and a Wenzhou graduate school. There are 29,975 full-time students, including 22,632 undergraduates, 6,398 graduate students, and 448 international students. There are two campuses, Langongping Campus and Pengjiaping Campus, covering an area of ​​2,430 acres, with a building area of ​​1.21 million square meters. The library has a collection of 2.16 million books and 1.22 million electronic books. The laboratory area is more than 50,000 square meters, and the teaching and research equipment assets are worth 460 million yuan.

The school is one of the first universities in my country to grant bachelor's and master's degrees, and it is the first university in Gansu Province to have the right to confer doctoral degrees in engineering and the first to set up a postdoctoral research station in engineering. There are 9 disciplines, covering engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, education, medicine, and art. Engineering, materials science, and chemistry are among the top 1% in the world in the ESI ranking. Civil engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and control science and engineering are among the B-class in the fourth round of discipline evaluation. There are 20 provincial key disciplines and 4 national defense specialty disciplines. The school has 70 undergraduate majors, 20 majors have been approved as national first-class professional construction sites, 10 majors have been approved as provincial first-class professional construction sites, and 6 national specialty professional construction sites. 14 majors have passed the professional certification (assessment) of engineering education and entered the "first echelon" of global engineering education. 3 courses have been selected as national first-class undergraduate courses, and 31 courses have been selected as provincial first-class undergraduate courses. There are 2 national teaching teams, 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 4 national engineering practice education centers, 11 provincial teaching teams, and 16 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. It has been approved to build the Confucius Institute of Vinnitsa National Technical University of Ukraine. It has joined the "Belt and Road" University Strategic Alliance, is a Chinese project school of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University, and has established cooperative relations with more than 40 foreign universities.
