Weinan Teachers College

Weinan Normal University is a multidisciplinary local university with teacher education as its main feature. It was founded in 1960 and has gone through the stages of the original Weinan Normal University, Weinan Special Training Department of Shaanxi Normal University, and Weinan Normal College. In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the original Weinan Normal College and Weinan Education College merged to form the new Weinan Normal University.

The school is located in Weinan City and Fuping County, Shaanxi Province, the hometown of the proletarian revolutionary Comrade Xi Zhongxun. There are currently four campuses in Chaoyang, Fuping, Xiyue, and Hanma. This place has a long history and profound cultural heritage. From Cangjie's creation of characters, Du Kang's brewing of wine to the Weihua Uprising, the magic of the Qindong land has been written for thousands of years; this place is blessed with beautiful scenery and natural resources. The King of Medicine Sun Simiao, the Sage of History Sima Qian, the great poet Bai Juyi, the patriotic general Yang Hucheng and the revolutionary predecessors Liu Zhidan, Xie Zichang, Xi Zhongxun and others have made great achievements that will shine through the ages; this place has beautiful scenery and charming views, and Huashan, the Western Peak, stands proudly in its territory.

The school has the right to confer bachelor's degrees, and cooperates with 15 domestic and foreign universities to train master's and doctoral students. It has been listed as a proposed new master's degree conferring institution by the Provincial Degree Committee and the Provincial Department of Education. There are currently 15 secondary colleges, the International Education College, and the Continuing Education College. It has a Sino-foreign joint school-running institution, the Moscow Art Institute, with 63 undergraduate majors, covering ten major disciplines such as education, literature, science, and art. Enrolling students nationwide, there are more than 19,000 students on campus. The teaching and research equipment is worth 167 million yuan, the library has more than 2.3 million books, 1.25 million electronic books, 25 Chinese and foreign databases, and digital resources cover all disciplines.

The school has a Shaanxi Provincial Academician Expert Workstation. There are 1,285 teachers, including 495 teachers with senior professional titles, 791 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, and a group of professionals have been selected as national outstanding social science experts, national defense education experts, "Sanqin Scholars" allowance experts, and teaching masters.

The school attaches importance to the development of connotation, and has key (characteristic) disciplines such as Chinese language and literature, mathematics, national and provincial first-class majors, professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, and characteristic majors; national and provincial first-class courses, national teacher education quality resource sharing courses, provincial quality resource sharing courses, bilingual teaching demonstration courses; national "new agricultural science" projects, provincial "new agricultural science", "new engineering", "new liberal arts" projects, talent training model innovation experimental areas, etc.

The school highlights the characteristics of collaborative innovation, and builds, integrates, improves and innovates various platforms around the three main fields of disciplines, teaching, and scientific research. There are 9 provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions, including Qindong History and Culture Research Center, China Sima Qian and "Historical Records" Research Institute, Marxism Popularization Base, Shaanxi Province X-ray Detection and Application Research and Development Center, Shaanxi Coal-based Low-carbon Alcohol Conversion Engineering Research Center, Shaanxi Key Laboratory of River Wetland Ecology and Environment, Russian Research Center, Qindong Intangible Cultural Heritage Popular Science Base, Weinan Normal University Technology Transfer Center, etc., and 10 department-level, school-city co-construction or school-level scientific research institutions, including Shaanxi Sports and Physical Health Research Center and Weinan Collaborative Innovation Development Research Institute. "Journal of Weinan Normal University" was selected into the "Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Core Journals of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences" and the "RCCSE Chinese Core Academic Journals" list of the China Science Evaluation Research Center of Wuhan University, and the featured column "Sima Qian and "Historical Records" Research" was selected into the "Famous Column Project" of the Ministry of Education's University Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals.

The disciplines, teaching and scientific research teams have formed a main direction with characteristics and advantages. Professionals have applied to undertake national social science fund projects, national natural science fund projects, national soft science research plan projects, and China Postdoctoral Science Fund projects. The number of scientific research projects from the Ministry of Education and relevant national ministries and commissions, Shaanxi Province and local governments has increased significantly year by year. A series of landmark scientific research results have been commended by the state and relevant ministries and commissions such as the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. They have won many awards such as the Shaanxi Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award, Science and Technology Award, Science and Technology Progress Award, National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, Higher Education Science and Technology Award, and Teaching Achievement Award.

The school insists on implementing the "Young Marxist" training project and has built patriotic education bases on campus such as the "Liu Zhidan and Xi Zhongxun Guanzhong Eastern Revolutionary Activities Memorial Hall", "Science Museum", and "Heluo Cultural Exhibition Hall".

The school focuses on cultivating college students' entrepreneurial and innovative abilities, and has built a provincial university science and technology park and a national college student maker space. It established the "College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program" earlier than other similar colleges and universities, and has set up the "College Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Principal Award". College students shoulder the mission, study hard, and have won a number of high-level competitions and practical awards, including the National Normal Student Skills Competition, the National College English Competition, the National College Physical Education Student Basic Skills Competition, the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, the National "Lotus Award" Dance Competition, the National College Student Chemistry Experiment Invitational Competition, the National College Marketing Competition, the "People's China Cup" Japanese International Translation Competition, and the "Blue Bridge Cup" National Software and Information Technology Professional Talent Competition.

The school attaches importance to teacher education, implements the Excellent Teacher Training Program, implements the "Dual Tutor System" in which college teachers and local primary and secondary school teachers jointly guide normal students, and strengthens the professional skills training of normal students. The Qindong Teacher Education Collaborative Innovation Center has been established, and the Teacher Education Collaborative Innovation Experimental Zone has been built in Weinan City, Tongchuan City and other places. Relying on the teaching and research offices of various counties, cities and districts to build educational science research workstations, jointly build collaborative innovation experimental zone base schools, and set up educational science research projects to serve and lead the basic education work in Qindong and the source of students. Continue to undertake the "National Training Program" and "Provincial Training Program" projects to form a full-discipline coverage of basic education teacher training.

The school adheres to the principle of open education and actively carries out international exchange activities. The Russian Research Center and the Thai Research Center were selected as the country research centers of the Ministry of Education. It has established cooperation and exchange relations with 36 universities in countries and regions such as South Korea, Russia, Belarus, the United States and Taiwan, China. The establishment of the Moscow Art Academy with Moscow State Normal University has been approved by the Ministry of Education. On November 7, 2016, the prime ministers of China and Russia signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on Supporting the Establishment of the "Weinan Normal University Moscow Art Academy". The school continues to carry out mutual exchange of students, teacher visits, international academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and other work in the form of projects. Every year, it selects many teachers to visit foreign universities for visits, exchanges, international promotion of Chinese teaching, etc. More than 500 college students go to foreign universities for study, degree study or exchange student programs; more than 300 students and exchange students from Thailand, South Korea and other countries come to study at the school. The university student art troupe has visited and performed in the United Kingdom, Ireland and other places.
