The connection between Eli Lilly and China can be traced back to the early 20th century. Lilly arrived in China in 1918 and established its first overseas representative office in Shanghai, taking the first step towards globalization. After going through many trials and tribulations, Lilly returned to China in 1993. For over 20 years, Lilly has been committed to expanding its business in China with the concept of "rooting in China and benefiting China". Lilly has approximately 3400 employees in China and its business has expanded to nearly 400 cities across the country.

Lilly has established Lilly Suzhou Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Suzhou, which is its wholly-owned pharmaceutical enterprise in China. Persisting in continuous innovation, pursuing excellence and high-quality manufacturing, any drug with the red Lilly logo represents high quality. Lilly has twice increased its capital and expanded its production base in China within five years, demonstrating its consistent commitment to China and demonstrating its firm confidence in the world's largest pharmaceutical market in the future.

In order to effectively bridge China's current innovation ecosystem, better leverage China's favorable policy environment, accelerate the development of new drugs, and bring new breakthrough drugs to global and Chinese patients, the Lilly China Innovation Cooperation Center was born in 2018 with such a mission.
