Hebei Agricultural University is a provincial key university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration. It is a national demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation, a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, a university implementing the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer and Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program, and a "Double First-Class" university in Hebei Province.

The school was founded in 1902 and is one of the earliest institutions of higher agricultural education in my country. It is the earliest institution of higher learning in Hebei Province. It has gone through historical periods such as Zhili Agricultural School, Zhili Higher Agricultural School, Zhili Public Agricultural Specialized School, Hebei Provincial Agricultural College, Hebei Agricultural College, and Hebei Agricultural University. In the 1950s, the school's forestry department, animal husbandry and veterinary department, and farmland water conservancy department participated in the establishment of Beijing Forestry College (now Beijing Forestry University), Inner Mongolia Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College (now Inner Mongolia Agricultural University), and Wuhan Water Conservancy College (now merged with Wuhan University). In 1995, it merged with the former Hebei Forestry College to form the new Hebei Agricultural University. In 2000, the former Hebei Fisheries School and the former Hebei Animal Husbandry and Technology School were merged into Hebei Agricultural University.

After a century of accumulation, the school has formed a distinctive school-running feature. Adhering to the teaching principle of "agricultural education cannot get the truth without internship, cannot explore the subtleties without experiments, and internships and experiments cannot be neglected", adhering to the school motto of "respecting morality, being pragmatic, and seeking truth", it has created the nationally renowned "Taihang Mountain Road" and cultivated the "Taihang Mountain Spirit" of "hard work, dedication, truth-seeking and pragmatism, and patriotism for the people". It has been recognized and commended by the Party and the country many times and has become a banner of higher education. It has trained more than 400,000 graduates, and a large number of talents, academic backbones, and management talents have emerged, such as 11 academicians including Dong Yuchen, Liu Xu, Yang Zhifeng, Zhao Chunjiang, and Guo Zijian, Wei Lihua, the founder of Junlebao Group, and Shi Yan, a global youth leader. In 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping made an important instruction on the advanced deeds of Comrade Li Baoguo, praising him as a model of Communists in the new era, an outstanding representative of intellectuals, and a new Yugong on the Taihang Mountains.

The school has five campuses in Baoding City, Cangzhou Bohai New Area, Qinhuangdao City, and Dingzhou City; the campus covers an area of ​​2,765 acres, with an affiliated experimental farm of more than 3,600 acres, a forest farm of more than 40,000 acres, and a building area of ​​1.241 million square meters; the total value of instruments and equipment is 869 million yuan, and the fixed assets are 2.429 billion yuan.

The university has 31 colleges (departments and departments), with about 33,000 full-time undergraduate students, 4,281 full-time master and doctoral students, 3,151 in-service faculty and staff, including 2,074 full-time teachers, 448 professors and corresponding titles, 1,002 associate professors and corresponding titles, 216 doctoral supervisors, 772 master supervisors, and more than 200 talents including experts from the national "Million Talents Project" and "Ten Thousand Talents Project", experts with special government allowances from the State Council, and provincial experts, 2 academicians of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, 1 distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholars Program, 3 national teaching masters, 4 national model teachers, 2 national excellent teachers, 18 provincial teaching masters, 19 provincial excellent teachers, and 4 provincial model teachers.

The school's disciplines and majors are characterized by biological application technology, information technology, and intelligent equipment design and manufacturing that serve agricultural modernization. It integrates and coordinates multiple disciplines such as "agronomy, engineering, management, science, economics, literature, law, and art", and has a complete talent training system for bachelors, masters, and doctors. There are 8 postdoctoral research stations; 11 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 1 professional degree doctoral program; 24 first-level discipline master's programs, and 12 professional degree master's programs. 1 discipline is included in the world-class discipline construction sequence of Hebei Province, and 3 disciplines are included in the national first-class discipline construction sequence of Hebei Province; 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 3 ministerial key disciplines, 4 strong and distinctive disciplines in Hebei Province, and 16 key disciplines in Hebei Province; 2 disciplines of agricultural science and plant and animal science are in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. There are 93 undergraduate majors, including 15 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 26 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites.

The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, integrates ideological and political education, innovation and entrepreneurship education throughout the whole process of talent cultivation, and strives to cultivate compound application-oriented senior professionals with innovative entrepreneurial spirit and strong practical ability. Always adhere to the concept of practice-based education, fully implement the "311" talent training model and credit system, and take the lead in formulating and implementing the roadmap for the cultivation of undergraduate professional practical ability in the country. It has won 109 provincial and above teaching achievement awards, including 9 national teaching achievements; built 6 national first batch of agricultural science and education cooperation talent training bases; 24 national "undergraduate teaching projects" such as national characteristic majors and national experimental teaching demonstration centers. The innovation and entrepreneurship education has achieved remarkable results. It initiated the establishment of the "Hebei University Innovation Space Alliance" and was approved as Hebei Entrepreneurship University. Students have won good results in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions such as the "Challenge Cup" and "Internet +".

The school conducts scientific research closely around the major needs of national agriculture, and has always been among the top universities in the province in terms of the number of scientific and technological innovation projects undertaken, the total amount of funds, and the level and number of awards. It has the "National Key Laboratory of Crop Improvement and Regulation in North China" and the "National Agricultural Engineering Technology Research Center in Northern Mountain Areas", and has built 69 national and provincial key laboratories (engineering centers, bases, experimental stations, collaborative innovation centers, industrial technology research institutes, etc.); 23 national experts in the modern agricultural industry technology system and 79 provincial experts. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has undertaken 1,370 major national and provincial scientific and technological projects, with 987 million yuan in scientific research funds in place, 100 new varieties approved, 1,121 patents, and 2,830 papers in the three major indexes. It has won 218 scientific and technological awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including 3 national second prizes.

The school has always taken serving the country's major strategies and regional economic development as its mission. The Xiong'an New Area Development Research Institute was established to actively connect with the construction of the Xiong'an New Area. The Rural Revitalization Research Institute was established to fully serve the rural revitalization and agricultural and rural modernization in Hebei Province. In cooperation with the Baoding Municipal Government, the "Taihang Mountain Agricultural Innovation Station" was created in accordance with the "465" model, which attracted widespread social attention and was fully affirmed by provincial and ministerial leaders. It was selected as a typical case of national industrial poverty alleviation and the best case of the "Global Poverty Reduction Case Collection Activity" and promoted throughout the province. It has carried out extensive school-local and school-enterprise cooperation with Baoding City, Shijiazhuang City, Cangzhou City, Xingtai City, Great Wall Motors, Junlebao Group, China Gezhouba Group, Tongfu Group, etc., and established 405 "three-in-one" bases for teaching, scientific research, and production in the six major ecological types of the province, 99 Hebei Provincial Agricultural Innovation Stations, 9 regional comprehensive experimental stations, and 41 modern agricultural education and science and technology innovation demonstration bases, and promoted more than 1,000 new achievements, new varieties, and new technologies, which effectively promoted local economic and social development.

The school adheres to open education and has established extensive academic exchanges and inter-school cooperation with more than 50 foreign colleges and universities and scientific research institutions in 21 countries and regions. Cooperate with Magdeburg-Stendal University in Germany to organize undergraduate education programs in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation; cooperate with Pai Chai University in South Korea to organize undergraduate education programs in pharmaceutical engineering; carry out cooperation projects with 23 foreign universities or institutions such as the University of British Columbia in Canada; establish international education exchanges and cooperation relations with 8 universities and research institutions along the "Belt and Road" such as the African Academy of Sciences; set up joint training projects such as the "New Agricultural Science Innovative Talent Training Project" and the "Rural Revitalization Applied International Talent Training Project" of the China Scholarship Council; and build a "Foreign Academician Workstation" in Hebei Province and 2 "Hebei International Science and Technology Cooperation Bases".

The school's party building and ideological and political work have achieved remarkable results. It has been awarded the title of "National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization" 3 times, the title of "National Advanced General University for Party Building and Ideological and Political Work" 2 times; it has been rated as a "National Civilized Unit" 2 times; and won the national "May 1st Labor Award". The outstanding graduates of the "Fruit Tree 9301 Class" are praised as a vivid interpretation of the core values ​​of socialism, and Comrade Li Baoguo was awarded the national honorary title of "People's Model".
