Hebei Normal University

Hebei Normal University is a provincial key university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province and the Ministry of Education, and a first-level university in Hebei Province's "Double First-Class" construction. The school originated from Shuntianfu School founded in Beijing in 1902 and Beiyang Women's Normal School founded in Tianjin in 1906. It has a 120-year development history and glorious tradition of running schools. In June 1996, the former Hebei Normal University and Hebei Normal College merged with Hebei Education College founded in 1952 and Hebei Vocational and Technical Normal College founded in 1984 to form the new Hebei Normal University. Among the alumni are the old generation of revolutionaries Deng Yingchao, Liu Qingyang, Guo Longzhen, Yang Xiufeng, Kang Shien, Rong Gaotang, etc., famous patriotic scholars Liang Shuming, Zhang Shenfu, Tang Yongtong, etc., academicians of the two academies Yan Luguang, Hao Bolin, Li Shushen, He Hong, etc., and a group of sports elites such as Xu Shaofa and Cai Zhenhua. Li Zhanshu, member of the Standing Committee of the 19th Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, is a famous alumnus of our school. Since the founding of New China, the school has trained more than 260,000 professional talents of various types for the country.

The school moved to the new campus as a whole in 2011. The new campus covers an area of ​​1,829 acres, with a collection of 3.18 million books and 67 Chinese and foreign databases. The school currently has 2,699 faculty and staff, including 1,797 full-time teachers. Among the faculty and staff, there are 421 senior professionals, 1,002 associate senior professionals, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 208 outstanding experts at or above the provincial level, 209 doctoral supervisors, 1,166 master's supervisors, including 229 off-campus practice supervisors. There are 25,135 undergraduate students, 5,242 master's students, 518 doctoral students, and 11,090 adult education students.

The school currently has 25 professional colleges and 1 independent college (Huihua College). It has 11 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees and 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point; 29 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees and 19 master's professional degree authorization points; there are 93 undergraduate majors. The disciplines and majors cover ten disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. There are 1 national key discipline, 10 postdoctoral research stations, 7 "double first-class" construction disciplines in Hebei Province, 1 national key discipline cultivation project of provincial universities, 4 strong and characteristic disciplines of provincial universities, 14 key disciplines of provincial universities, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 14 provincial key laboratories, technology innovation centers, and engineering research centers. Chemistry, botany and zoology are among the top 1% in the ESI world ranking. In recent years, the school has won a total of 5 national teaching achievement awards (1 first prize and 4 second prizes).

Focusing on the credit system, on-the-job internship teaching, and large-scale enrollment training, the school promotes three basic changes in undergraduate teaching: the credit system reform is constantly improving to meet the needs of students' self-design and independent development. A complete teacher education system has been established that integrates the training of basic education, vocational education, and higher education teachers with "three teachings in parallel" and training. The on-the-job internship teaching project has been carried out in depth, effectively serving the development of rural basic education. Vice Premier Liu Yandong of the State Council has issued instructions twice to promote this work; in June 2013, when Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council visited the school, he highly praised the school's practice of training students at the grassroots level and the students' willingness to work at the grassroots level. The reform of large-scale enrollment and training has been implemented to strengthen general education. Actively develop non-teacher education majors, initially form four training models, and build a new talent training pattern of common development of teacher education and non-teacher education majors. The quality of postgraduate training has been continuously improved. In 2015, the school was rated as "the top 50 universities with typical experience in graduate employment in China"; in 2016, it was recognized as "the first batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform"; in 2017, it was selected as the implementation college of the reform project of the "Excellent Middle School Teacher Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, and was rated as "the first batch of entrepreneurship and employment crowd innovation space in Hebei Province"; in 2019, it was rated as "Hebei Province's 'Double Innovation' Demonstration Base".

Scientific research continues to make new progress. It has undertaken a number of national key R&D plans, major national projects for the cultivation of new varieties of genetically modified organisms, major scientific and technological infrastructure projects of the National Development and Reform Commission, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, key international (regional) cooperative research projects, national outstanding young scientists fund projects, major bidding projects of the National Social Science Foundation, major commissioned projects of the Marxist theory research and construction project, and main projects of the National Qing History Compilation Project. Academician Sun Daye's research team won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, filling the gap in Hebei Province; the doctoral dissertation guided by Professor Jiang Chunlan was included in the ranks of "100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations in China". The research results of humanities and social sciences have won the Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, the National Dictionary Award, the Lu Xun Literature Award, etc. Published many high-level academic papers in authoritative academic journals at home and abroad such as Science, Nature, Cell, and Chinese Social Sciences.

Give full play to disciplinary advantages and promote collaborative innovation. Three Hebei Province Collaborative Innovation Centers have been built, namely "Cell Signaling and Environmental Adaptation", "Digital Education" and "Yanzhao Culture Research Center". The "Yanzhao Culture Research Collaborative Innovation Center" has been approved as a provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center; the "Great Wall Cultural Security Research Center" has been selected as the first batch of new think tanks in Hebei Province; Hebei Province Mathematics Research Center, Mobile Internet of Things Research Institute, Nihewan Archaeological Research Institute, Jifu Studies Research Center, County History and Culture Research Center, Public Policy Evaluation Center, AR Key Laboratory, Yanliang Xuezhi Center, China's Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance and Development Research Center, Ecological Environment Research Center and other innovative platforms have been established, and the ability to serve economic construction and social development has been significantly enhanced.

The school has carried out extensive international cooperation and exchanges. It has established formal cooperative relations with 92 universities and educational institutions in 25 countries, and has carried out exchanges with more than 200 foreign universities in cooperative education, teacher exchanges, student exchanges, online courses, scientific research cooperation and international intelligence introduction, and the internationalization level of school operation has gradually improved. The school is a recipient of the "Chinese Government Scholarship" and "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship" projects. Every year, more than 600 international students from five continents and more than 40 countries study for undergraduate, master's and doctoral education and long-term and short-term Chinese language education in our school. It has built 2 Confucius Institutes, 1 Confucius Classroom, and co-built a Portuguese-Chinese bilingual high school, 1 overseas college, and 2 overseas preparatory colleges. It has selected Chinese teacher volunteers to more than 20 countries and actively participated in the international promotion of Chinese. Peru Research Center, Indonesia Research Center, Russia Research Center, Pakistan Research Center and New Zealand Research Center have been established to focus on building a regional research platform.

The school party committee adheres to the idea of ​​"focusing on the central work to strengthen party building and promoting the central work through party building", and continuously strengthens party building and ideological and political work with the spirit of reform and innovation, providing strong political, ideological and organizational guarantees for the development of the school. The school has been awarded the titles of grassroots party building red flag unit, advanced grassroots party organization, and civilized unit by the provincial party committee and the provincial government. In 2017, it was awarded the title of the first National Civilized Campus by the Central Civilization Committee and successfully passed the review in 2020, and continued to retain the title.
