Jiangsu Normal University is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Education. It is a high-level university in Jiangsu. The school was founded in Wuxi, Jiangsu in 1952. Lieutenant General Liu Xiansheng, who had made outstanding military achievements, was the first president. In 1956, it was officially included in the general higher education sequence for enrollment. In 1957, Jiangsu Normal College was established. In 1958, the school moved north to Xuzhou. In 1959, it merged with Xuzhou Normal College to form Xuzhou Normal College. In the early 1960s, the layout of universities across the country was adjusted. Premier Zhou Enlai instructed: "Xuzhou is a vast area and must have a university", so the school was retained. Since then, the school has taken root in northern Jiangsu, worked hard, and developed gradually. In 1979, it began to recruit postgraduate students, and in 1981 it became one of the first institutions in the country to grant master's degrees. In 1984, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province established Xuzhou Normal College based on the former Xuzhou Teachers' Continuing Education College, and the school was merged into our school in 1989. In 1996, the school was renamed Xuzhou Normal University. In 1999, the Xuzhou Industrial School under the former Ministry of Coal was merged. In 2011, the school was renamed Jiangsu Normal University. Since its establishment, all teachers and students of the school have adhered to the school motto of "respecting morality and learning, inspiring and acting quickly". After unremitting efforts, all undertakings have developed rapidly. In 2020, the school ranked among the top 50 mainland universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings; ranked 102nd in the U.S. News World University Rankings Chinese (Mainland) Universities, and 116th in the "China University Evaluation", with increasing comprehensive strength and international influence.

The university currently has four campuses, namely Quanshan, Yunlong, Kuiyuan and Jiawang, covering an area of ​​2,457 mu, with a school building area of ​​934,700 square meters; the total value of teaching and research equipment is 611 million yuan; the library has a collection of 3.18 million books. It has 22 professional colleges, as well as Jingwen College, Continuing Education College, International College and the first non-independent legal person Sino-Russian cooperative education institution approved by the Ministry of Education - Jiangsu Normal University St. Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnic University Joint Engineering College, and an independent college, Science and Culture College. There are more than 18,800 full-time undergraduate students, more than 4,500 doctoral and master's students, and more than 530 international students for academic education.
