Nantong University Medical College (Nursing College) was formerly Nantong Medical College. It originated from the private Nantong Medical College founded by Zhang Jian, the top scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, and his brother in March 1912. It is one of the earliest higher medical schools in my country and has a history of more than 100 years. Looking back on the history of more than 100 years of schooling, Nantong University Medical College has continued to carry forward the long and profound cultural heritage, adhering to the humanistic spirit of "praying for the integration of Chinese and Western cultures and promoting charity", and composing a brilliant and gorgeous chapter of educating people.

The college currently has 19 departments, 21 teaching and research offices, and 338 faculty and staff, including 261 full-time teachers, 65.52% of whom have senior professional titles, and 72.2% of whom have doctoral degrees. In addition, there are a large number of part-time teachers. It has a group of high-level talents, including winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, selected candidates of the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project, New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Distinguished Professors, and Jiangsu Province "Double Creation" talents. There is one national excellent teaching team (Human Anatomy and Histoembryology Teaching Team), one excellent teaching team of Jiangsu Province's "Blue and Green Project" (Clinical Medicine Medical Morphology Teaching Team), and one Jiangsu Province Excellent Science and Technology Innovation Team (Male Reproductive Health Team).

The college has formed a multi-form school-running pattern of undergraduate education, graduate education, international student education and adult education. There are 8 undergraduate majors in clinical medicine, pediatrics, stomatology, medical imaging, bioinformatics, rehabilitation therapy, nursing, and intelligent medical engineering. Among them, the clinical medicine major is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point and a characteristic major, and a Class A brand major in Jiangsu Province; the nursing major is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point; and the medical imaging major is a characteristic major in Jiangsu Province. The college began to recruit undergraduate students studying in China in 2005 and graduate students studying in China in 2015. At present, there are 4,401 full-time students, including 3,419 undergraduates and 1,123 postgraduates; there are 314 international students, including 298 undergraduates and 16 postgraduates.

The college currently has 1 national key discipline cultivation and construction site, 1 Jiangsu Provincial University Advantage Discipline, 2 Jiangsu Provincial First-level Key Disciplines, 2 First-level Discipline Doctoral Degree Authorization Points, 5 First-level Discipline Master's Degree Authorization Points, and 2 Postdoctoral Research Mobile Stations. It has 1 national and Jiangsu Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory, 2 Nantong Municipal Key Laboratories, and also has a basic medical research center, a clinical medical research center and 15 school-level research institutions.

The college currently has 1 national first-class course, 1 national quality resource sharing course, 5 Jiangsu Provincial quality courses, and 4 Jiangsu Provincial Online Open Courses; 1 English-taught brand course for international students in China by the Ministry of Education, 4 Jiangsu Provincial all-English-taught quality courses; 1 national quality textbook and 1 planning textbook. Won 2 provincial teaching achievement awards, 1 first prize, and 3 second prizes.

In recent years, the college has won many science and technology awards, including the National Technological Invention Second Prize, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress First Prize; won 146 national scientific research projects, 45 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and more than 300 municipal and departmental scientific research projects; obtained 125 invention patents; published more than 3,000 papers, including more than 1,000 papers included in SCI; students have achieved outstanding results in major national competitions, and won the special prize of the 16th "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, the silver medal of the 5th China "Internet +" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the 15th China College Students of the Year, and the 12th China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award.

The college’s graduates are known for their solid foundation, strong practical ability, hard work and innovative spirit. A group of outstanding alumni, represented by academicians of the two academies, Yangtze River Scholars, recipients of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, and recipients of special allowances from the State Council, have emerged. They have made positive contributions to the country’s medical and health care cause and have been fully recognized and widely praised by the society.
