The University of Jinan is a comprehensive university jointly established by the People's Government of Shandong Province and the Ministry of Education, a key university in Shandong Province, and a high-level university in Shandong Province that is striving for the first-class level. It has the right to confer bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.

The school was founded in 1948. Over the past 70 years, the school has kept in mind the school motto of "perseverance, erudition, truth-seeking and perfection", inherited the school spirit of "diligence, rigor, unity and innovation", and carried forward the spirit of "hard work, cohesion and pursuit of excellence". It has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for national construction and economic and social development, with nearly 350,000 alumni at home and abroad.

The school currently has 26 colleges, 3 postdoctoral research stations, 5 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 24 first-level master's degree authorization points, and 22 master's professional degree training categories. The school enrolls about 80 undergraduate majors each year, covering 10 categories including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management and art. There are more than 38,000 full-time undergraduates, graduate students and international students.

The school currently has 2,182 full-time teachers, including 357 professors, 799 associate professors, and 1,231 with doctoral degrees. In recent years, the school has undertaken 702 national scientific research projects, including the National Science and Technology Support Program, the National "973 Program", the "863 Program", the National Key R&D Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Foundation, and 1,502 provincial and ministerial projects. It has won 285 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including 2 second prizes for national technological inventions, 2 second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, 5 third prizes for outstanding scientific research achievements in colleges and universities (humanities and social sciences), and 1 item was selected into the "National Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievement Library". It has obtained 3,337 national invention patents. 11,170 academic papers have been included in SCI, EI, SSCI, and CSSCI, and more than 280 monographs, translations, and textbooks have been published. It hosts two academic journals, "China Powder Technology" and "Journal of Jinan University".

The school adheres to the concept of open education and actively expands cooperation and exchanges with foreign educational institutions. Through various means such as scholar exchanges, academic exchanges, and cooperative education, it has established inter-school cooperation with 102 universities in the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, and established friendly school relations with 18 universities in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. There is a Confucius Institute in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo.

The school campus covers an area of ​​2.43 million square meters, the school building area is more than 1.04 million square meters, the total value of fixed assets is 3.08 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 600 million yuan. The library has a construction area of ​​63,000 square meters, with more than 8 million volumes of paper books and electronic documents, and more than 30,000 Chinese and foreign current and electronic journals.
