Shandong Jianzhu University is located in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, a national historical and cultural city.

It has a long history of development. The school was founded in 1956 and was one of the ten civil engineering schools built by the Ministry of Urban Construction in the country. Over the past 65 years, the school has been in line with the profound culture of the land of Qilu and the pace of the resounding Republic. It has trained 200,000 talents of various types for the country and society, and has made important contributions to the regional economic and social development, especially the development of the construction industry.

The school has strong strength. The school covers an area of ​​more than 2,400 acres and the school building area is more than 700,000 square meters. It has 20 colleges (departments), 61 undergraduate majors, and recruits students from 30 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) across the country, with more than 27,000 full-time students. It has 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 2 national engineering practice education centers, and 1 national off-campus practice education base for college students. The library has a collection of more than 3.98 million books, including more than 1.98 million printed books and more than 2 million electronic books. "Journal of Shandong Jianzhu University" was selected as "RCCSE China Core Academic Journal", and its influence index and other major journal evaluation indicators continue to rank among the national local university journals in the field of architectural engineering and the provincial science and engineering university journals in Shandong Province.

The school is the only university in the country that serves the country’s special needs for the cultivation of green building doctoral talents, the only university in Shandong whose civil engineering majors have all passed the national professional evaluation (certification), and the first undergraduate university in Shandong Province for the national industry-education integration demonstration project. The school's ESI engineering discipline ranks in the top 1% in the world. It has two first-class disciplines in Shandong Province, architecture and civil engineering. Architecture is included in the high-level "advantageous and characteristic disciplines" construction disciplines in Shandong Province. It has 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 key scientific research base of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, 1 Shandong base of the National Engineering Research Center for Wood Industry, 3 Shandong Collaborative Innovation Centers, 2 Shandong Key Laboratories, 8 Shandong Engineering Technology Research Centers, 3 Shandong Engineering Laboratories (Engineering Research Centers), 6 Shandong University Key Laboratories, 1 National Cultural Relics Society Research Base, 2 Shandong University Humanities and Social Sciences Research Bases (New Think Tanks), 1 Shandong Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Base, 1 Shandong Provincial Political and Legal Committee Research Base and other 30 key scientific research and innovation platforms. Among them, the National Cultural Heritage Administration Key Scientific Research Base for the Protection of Local Cultural Heritage is the only National Cultural Heritage Administration Key Scientific Research Base in Shandong Province.

The research results are fruitful. The school has won 5 National Science and Technology Awards, 1 National Teaching Achievement Award, and 1 Ministry of Education Excellent Scientific Research Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences). Among them, in 2002, "Plastic Forming Theory and Process Tooling Equipment of Uniform Wall Thickness Bends" chaired by Professor Lu Xiaoyang won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award; in 2009, "Key Technology Application and Development of Solar Energy and Shallow Geothermal Energy in Buildings" chaired by Professor Wang Chongjie won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award; "Research and Practice on Innovative and Applied Talent Training Model for Regional Architecture Majors" chaired by Professor Liu Su won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award; in 2014, "New Technologies and Applications of Building Relocation and Reconstruction Engineering" chaired by Professor Zhang Xin won the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award. It is the only university in Shandong Province that has won national science and technology awards in the fields of architecture and civil engineering. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the school's annual average funding for scientific and technological activities was nearly 200 million yuan, and it hosted 163 national scientific research projects and 359 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, including 2 major key projects of the National Science and Technology Plan, 3 topics, and 5 major provincial science and technology projects. For example, in 2019, Professor Cui Dongxu hosted the "13th Five-Year Plan" National Key R&D Project "Village Community Space Optimization and Layout", which was approved for 35.08 million yuan. It is currently the highest-level major project undertaken in the field of urban and rural planning in our province; in 2020, Professor Zhang Xin hosted the "Basic Research on Performance Evaluation and Reinforcement and Reconstruction of Existing Structures" approved as a key project of the National Natural Science Foundation, achieving a breakthrough in the school's key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation; won 63 provincial and ministerial government scientific research awards and awards from social forces set up by the National Awards Office (including 15 first prizes), and obtained 633 national invention patents; 3,377 papers were included in SCI, SSCI, A&HCI, and EI.

It has held 4 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects in the field of civil engineering with universities in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and cooperated with many foreign universities to carry out "2+2", "3+1", "3+2" and other models of student joint training projects, recruiting international students in majors such as civil engineering and international business. Currently, there are foreign teachers and students from more than 30 countries working or studying at the school. The school has successively carried out strategic cooperation with more than 90 governments, research institutes, and large enterprises, presided over the completion of the world's heaviest and tallest, and the longest domestic building translation project, presided over or participated in the formulation of more than 60 national and provincial construction industry standards, completed the planning, design and construction management of more than 100 national and provincial large-scale projects, and built the first Xiong'an New Area teaching practice base for Shandong universities, providing important talent and intellectual support for regional economic and social development and national construction. The school and Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone jointly built an industry-university-research base. The school has been selected as a case of UNESCO green ecological campus. The school has been rated as the Shandong Provincial Architectural Science Education Base and included in the Shandong Provincial Series Museum Planning. The school presided over the construction of the first vertical buried pipe ground source heat pump air conditioning demonstration project in China, the first solar energy comprehensive utilization student apartment in China, and the first steel structure assembled ultra-low energy consumption building in China-the school comprehensive teaching building. The school campus has become a cultural home and architectural expo park for teachers and students full of contemporary vitality and modern atmosphere.
