Shandong University of Finance and Economics is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Shandong Province. It is located in Jinan, a national historical and cultural city known as the Spring City. History

The school was established on July 4, 2011 by the merger of the former Shandong University of Economics and the former Shandong University of Finance. It was officially launched on June 9, 2012. Party and state leaders Li Lanqing, Jiang Chunyun, Wang Bingqian, Chen Zhili and others wrote congratulatory inscriptions. Shandong University of Economics, the predecessor of Shandong University of Finance and Economics, was founded in 1952 by the merger of Shandong Accounting College and the Economics Department of Qilu University. It is the earliest general financial university in Shandong Province and the earliest financial university in the country. One of the ordinary universities. During the "Cultural Revolution", Shandong University of Finance and Economics suspended its operations. In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, the school resumed operations and was renamed Shandong University of Economics. Obtained the right to confer master's degree in 1993. Shandong University of Finance was founded in 1986. Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally inscribed the name of the school. It is one of the six universities directly under the Ministry of Finance. Obtained the right to confer master's degree in 1998. In 2000, the school leadership and management system was changed to one jointly constructed by the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay. On August 23, 2012, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and the Shandong Provincial People's Government signed an agreement in Jinan to jointly build Shandong University of Finance and Economics. In July 2013, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school obtained the right to confer doctoral degrees. In December 2013, the school was selected as one of Shandong Province’s “Province-Ministry Joint Construction Units of Characteristic Famous Schools for Talent Training”. The school is the first provincial key university jointly built by the province and the ministry. It is also the first university to be supported by the province’s connotation improvement and famous school construction projects. In December 2017, the school’s first party congress clarified the development goal of comprehensively building a national first-class financial and economics school and the 1234 development ideas of “firming the first-class goal, running through two main lines, highlighting three key points, and implementing four major strategies”.

Conditions for running a school

The school currently has three campuses, Yanshan, Shungeng and Shengjing, covering an area of ​​more than 3,000 acres. The school has complete modern teaching infrastructure and experimental equipment. There are currently 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 26 provincial teaching experimental centers for backbone subjects of higher education institutions, 11 provincial laboratories, more than 150 laboratories of various types, and various practical teaching 306 bases. The total building area of ​​the school building is 982,000 square meters, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 258 million yuan. The library has a collection of 3.479 million books and 7.43 million electronic books, realizing book resource sharing with provincial and municipal libraries. It has a modern studio center, CATV teaching system and Gigabit Ethernet campus network system. An IELTS computer-based test center was established, becoming the British Council’s 27th official test center in mainland China.

The school currently has 24 teaching colleges (departments) with more than 30,000 full-time undergraduate and graduate students. Management is B-, becoming one of the three provincial universities with more than two B+ disciplines, and the only provincial university in Shandong Province with economics and management disciplines of B or above. The overall subject strength ranks among the top 10 financial universities in the country. In December 2020, the school was selected into the list of high-level universities in Shandong Province; three disciplines: applied economics, business administration, and management science and engineering were selected into the list of high-level disciplines in Shandong Province. Among them, applied economics is a "peak discipline" construction discipline . Applied economics has entered the top 10% of the "Best Subjects in China" ranking, and engineering and computer science have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking.
