Dezhou University is a full-time comprehensive undergraduate college directly under the Shandong Provincial Government. It is a project construction unit for the granting of master's degrees in Shandong Province and the first batch of supporting units for the construction of applied undergraduate colleges in Shandong Province. The school is located in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, China's Sun City. Dezhou has a superior geographical location and is known as the "Jiudatianqu" and "Gateway to the Capital". The school was founded in 1971 and was formerly Dezhou Normal College. In 2000, it was renamed Dezhou University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Research characteristics have been formed in the fields of biophysics, biotechnology, functional materials, textiles and clothing, renewable energy, Chinese modern and contemporary literature, and regional cultural research. More than 350 high-level papers have been published in high-level academic journals at home and abroad; outstanding results have been achieved in the research of single-crystal graphene biosensor technology and "donor-acceptor" optoelectronic materials. The research on graphene field-effect transistors and enhanced Raman biosensors won the second prize of the Shandong Natural Science Award in 2020.

The "Shandong ASEAN Research Center" was listed as a pilot construction unit of the "National and Regional Research Center of Colleges and Universities" by the Ministry of Education. More than 300 degree students and language students from Russia, Thailand and other countries were enrolled. It was approved as the "Shandong Chinese Education Base" and the qualification to recruit undergraduate students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
