Central South University of Forestry and Technology

Central South University of Forestry and Technology is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Hunan Province and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, a university in the national "Basic Capacity Construction Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China", and a university under the construction of "Domestic First-Class Universities" in Hunan Province.

The school is located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city in China, adjacent to the provincial government, with an elegant environment and convenient transportation. The campus covers an area of ​​1,388 acres and has an experimental forest farm covering more than 70,000 acres (Hunan Beiluoxiao National Forest Park). The school has complete public service facilities and is an ideal place for studying and studying.

One of the predecessors of the school was the Hunan Forestry College established in Changsha in 1958. In 1963, under the loving care of Comrade Tao Zhu, an older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, Hunan Forestry College moved to Guangzhou and merged with the Forestry Department of South China Agricultural College (now South China Agricultural University) to form Central South Forestry College. Comrade Tao Zhu personally determined the school site, drew a blueprint, and inscribed the school name. In 1970, Central South Forestry College merged with South China Agricultural College to form Guangdong Agricultural and Forestry College. In 1974, the school moved from Guangzhou to Xupu County, Hunan Province and was renamed Hunan Forestry College. In 1978, the school resumed the name of Central South Forestry College and was directly managed by the former Ministry of Forestry. In 1981, the school moved to Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. In 2000, the former Hunan Forestry School and Hunan Forestry Technical School were merged into Central South Forestry College, and the school was transferred to Hunan Province and the former Ministry of Forestry to build together. In 2003, the Hunan Agricultural Machinery Research Institute was merged into Central South Forestry College, and the school's main body moved to Changsha, realizing a historic return. In 2005, the school was renamed Central South University of Forestry and Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2006, the school merged with the former Hunan Economic Management Cadre College to form the new Central South University of Forestry and Technology.

The school has a graduate school and 24 teaching units. There are 80 undergraduate majors, including 12 national first-class undergraduate major construction points, 4 national characteristic majors, and 24 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points. There are 6 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 20 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 16 master's professional degree authorization categories, and 5 postdoctoral research mobile stations. There are 2 national characteristic key disciplines, 3 national key (cultivation) disciplines, 5 key (cultivation) disciplines of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, 6 first-class construction (cultivation) disciplines in Hunan Province, 1 self-established interdisciplinary discipline, and 3 disciplines of agricultural science, engineering, and environmental ecology are among the top 1% in the ESI global ranking.

There are 2,337 faculty and staff, 966 of whom have senior professional titles. Among them, there is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 4 dual-appointed academicians, 16 national talents such as Yangtze River Scholars, Ten Thousand Talents Program, Hundred Thousand Talents, and National Excellent Young Scholars, 2 members of the subject evaluation group of the 8th State Council Academic Degree Committee, 100 people including New Century Talents of the Ministry of Education, National Forestry and Grassland Science and Technology Innovation Talents, Furong Scholars, Hunan Science and Technology Leading Talents, and Hunan Think Tank Leading Talents, 4 National Outstanding Teachers and Outstanding Educators, 1 National Key Field Innovation Team, 15 Provincial and Ministerial Innovation Teams, and 16 Provincial Graduate Excellent Teaching Teams.

There are more than 30,000 full-time students, including more than 25,000 undergraduate and junior college students and more than 4,800 graduate students. Over the past 60 years, the school has provided more than 210,000 high-quality professionals of various types to the country and local areas, and a large number of outstanding alumni have emerged, making great contributions to the national and local economic and social development.

The school has 1 national field scientific observation and research station, 1 national engineering research center, 1 national engineering laboratory, 1 national and local joint engineering research center, 1 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center; it has 60 provincial and ministerial teaching and research platforms. The library has a construction area of ​​41,200 square meters, with a total physical collection of 2.402 million volumes (items); 60 databases of various types, 51,000 electronic journals with a total of 920,000 volumes, and a total of 2.065 million electronic books.

In recent years, the school has won 4 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award and 2 third prizes in the National Education Science Research Outstanding Achievements. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has won 1 National Innovation Award, 1 China Youth Science and Technology Award, 1 Hunan Guangzhao Science and Technology Award, 1 Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Team Award, 9 provincial and ministerial science and technology first prizes, and 40 other provincial and ministerial scientific research awards; it has undertaken more than 2,600 scientific research projects of various types, with an average annual research funding of more than 111 million yuan, including 246 national key R&D plan projects and major national fund projects, key projects, and outstanding youth projects; it has obtained 1,099 authorized patents, including 739 international and national invention patents; it has published more than 2,200 papers in SCI, EI, SSCI, CSSCI, CSCD and authoritative (important) journals selected by the school, and published 114 academic monographs. The school sponsors 4 academic journals. Among them, "Journal of Central South University of Forestry and Technology" is a Chinese fine science and technology journal and a source journal of the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), "Economic Forest Research" and "Furniture and Interior Decoration" are Chinese core journals, and "Journal of Central South University of Forestry and Technology (Social Sciences Edition)" is a Chinese core journal of humanities and social sciences.

The school has established good cooperation with 98 universities and research institutions in 25 countries (regions), and has carried out Sino-foreign cooperative education, international scientific research cooperation, joint international academic conferences, teacher training, joint training of students, student exchange visits, professional practice and study tours and other forms of foreign exchanges. It jointly organized the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in Hunan Province, Central South University of Forestry and Technology Bangor College, with Bangor University in the United Kingdom. The school has established the Central South University of Forestry and Technology-Bangor University Joint Research Center, leading the construction of the "Belt and Road" Tropical Arid Economic Forest Engineering Technology Research Center, and actively promoting international scientific and technological cooperation. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has sent a total of 1,181 students to study abroad (overseas). In 2021, the school has a total of 112 international students, covering doctoral, master's, undergraduate and visiting students, and the proportion of degree students has reached 84%.
