Hunan Agricultural University (HUNAU)

Hunan Agricultural University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the People's Government of Hunan Province, a national civilized campus, and a first-class university in Hunan Province (Class A). Academician Yuan Longping, the "Father of Hybrid Rice", once served as the honorary president of the school.

The predecessor of the school was Xiuye ​​School founded in 1903, where Zhou Zhenlin, Huang Xing, Xu Teli, Mao Zedong and others taught successively. In March 1951, Hunan Provincial Xiuye ​​Agricultural and Forestry College, which developed from Xiuye ​​School, merged with the Agricultural College of Hunan University to form Hunan Agricultural College, and Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of the school. In March 1994, it was renamed Hunan Agricultural University. After a hundred years of ups and downs, the school has been forging ahead, always adhering to the tradition of loving agriculture and serving agriculture, and practicing the mission of strengthening agriculture and promoting agriculture. It has now developed into a teaching and research university with agronomy as the main body and coordinated and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.

The school has 20 colleges, 1 independent college, graduate school and continuing education college, and the disciplines cover 10 categories including agriculture, industry, literature, science, economics, management, law, medicine, education and art. There is 1 national key discipline, 1 key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 3 provincial first-class construction disciplines, 7 provincial first-class cultivation disciplines, 2 provincial "12th Five-Year Plan" advantage and characteristic disciplines, and 15 provincial "12th Five-Year Plan" key disciplines. The ESI rankings of 6 disciplines including plant and animal sciences, agricultural sciences, environment/ecology, chemistry, engineering sciences, biology and biochemistry are among the top 1% in the world. There are 10 postdoctoral research stations, 11 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 24 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 14 master's professional degree authorization categories. It is one of the first units in the country to obtain the right to confer master's degrees; there are 80 undergraduate majors, including 15 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 20 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites; there are 31,522 full-time undergraduate students (including 5,757 independent colleges) and 5,847 graduate students.

There are 1,555 full-time teachers, 1,024 faculty members with senior professional titles, and 1,930 faculty members with master's degrees or above. There are 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 40 national talents such as "Changjiang Scholars Award Program Candidates" and national "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions", and 325 provincial talents. There is 1 national teaching team, 1 national advanced collective of outstanding professional and technical talents, 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams, 2 science and technology innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, 3 outstanding scientific research talents and their innovation teams of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 6 innovation teams of Hunan Province, and 6 excellent teaching teams of Hunan Province. Among the external teachers, there are 6 "double-hired" academicians and 6 Yangtze River Scholars.

The school is one of the first pilot construction units of the New Rural Development Research Institute in the country. It has taken the lead in establishing 1 national "2011" collaborative innovation center, 2 provincial and ministerial "2011" collaborative innovation centers, and 3 provincial "2011" collaborative innovation centers; 9 national scientific research platforms and 81 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. It has won a total of 27 national science and technology achievement awards and more than 500 provincial and ministerial science and technology achievement awards; approved more than 300 new varieties; and obtained more than 1,400 authorized patents. The new varieties of rapeseed, pepper, tea, rice, corn, potato, peanut, grape, cotton, citrus, pig, tobacco and other practical technical achievements have been promoted throughout the country.

The school has established close ties with more than 100 universities, government agencies and international organizations in more than 30 countries, and has established cooperative education relationships with more than 40 universities such as the University of Hawaii in the United States, the University of British Columbia in Canada, the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom, and Kagoshima University in Japan. It is one of the earliest universities in Hunan Province to start Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, a school that has passed the national quality certification for studying in China, and a research base of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Research Institute.
