Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology is a full-time undergraduate college sponsored by the People's Government of Hunan Province. The school is located in Loudi City, Hunan Province, a national civilized city. It has a beautiful environment and profound cultural heritage. It is a good place to seek truth and study.

The school was founded in 1978. In 2004, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology. In 2011, it obtained the qualification of "serving the special needs of the country" for the cultivation of professional degree postgraduates of agricultural extension master's degree. In 2012, it passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it became a new master's degree project construction unit in Hunan Province. In 2018, it became a "double first-class" high-level application characteristic college in Hunan Province. In 2019, it passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education with high quality.

Over the past 40 years, the school has inherited and carried forward the fine traditions of Hunan culture, accumulated the school motto of "seeking the near to achieve the far, nourishing the roots and waiting for the fruit", and the school spirit of "talent first, benevolence fills the garden", established the goal of cultivating applied talents, and cultivated and supplied more than 100,000 talents of various types for the country and society, including well-known scholars Li Kenli, Qing Fengling, Qing Xinlin, and outstanding entrepreneur Fu Shenglong.

The school currently has 14 secondary colleges, 53 full-time undergraduate majors, and 1 master's degree program, covering nine disciplines including liberal arts, science, engineering, education, economics, management, law, agriculture, and art. It has five provincial "double first-class" application-oriented characteristic disciplines, namely applied economics, Marxist theory, plant protection, computer science and technology, and materials science and engineering; 18 majors such as e-commerce have been approved as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, and three majors, namely energy and power engineering, network engineering, and e-commerce, have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction points. There are 1 national online and offline hybrid first-class course and 37 provincial first-class undergraduate courses.

The school currently has 17,209 full-time students, including 173 junior college students, 16,870 undergraduates, and 166 postgraduates. There are 1,366 faculty and staff, including 332 senior professional titles, 879 masters and doctors, 61 experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council and the provincial government, national outstanding teachers, and high-level talents of various provincial talent projects, and 4 provincial teaching and research teams.

There are 28 provincial scientific research platforms such as the Provincial Key Laboratory, the Provincial Key Research Base of Social Sciences, and the Provincial 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center. There are 39 national and provincial practice platforms such as the Ministry of Education’s College Dragon and Lion Training Base, the Provincial Demonstration Laboratory, the Practical Teaching Demonstration Center, the College Student Innovation Training Center, the School-Enterprise Cooperation Talent Training Demonstration Base, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Base, the Incubation Demonstration Base, and the Public Innovation Space.

The construction of the "Four Seasons with Flowers" campus has achieved remarkable results, the construction of the smart campus has been steadily promoted, the campus network has achieved full coverage, and cultural and sports activities are rich and colorful. Student dormitories are equipped with hot water and air conditioning to achieve "warm in winter and cool in summer".

The school fully implements the talent-strengthening and quality-building projects, constantly explores and improves the application-oriented talent training system and model, and continuously improves the teaching quality. In the past five years, students have won 943 awards in various discipline competitions and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at all levels and above the provincial level, including 37 national first prizes, 85 national second prizes, 80 national third prizes, 159 provincial first prizes, 228 provincial second prizes, and 354 provincial third prizes. Sports competitions won 177 gold medals, 160 silver medals, and 98 bronze medals at the provincial level and above. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has remained above 90%, and the satisfaction of employers with graduates is above 90%. In the past five years, teachers have presided over 528 scientific research projects, including 15 national funds, 5 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, and 418 scientific research and teaching projects at or above the provincial level; published 350 high-level papers, published 59 books; won 18 scientific research and teaching achievement awards at or above the provincial level; obtained 37 invention patents, and obtained 649 utility models, appearance, and software copyrights.

The first university student entrepreneurship foundation in the province, the Hunan Zhengyang University Student Entrepreneurship Foundation, has been established. The provincial Zhengyang University Student Entrepreneurship Incubation Base has been established. It is the first among the universities in the province to establish a physical innovation and entrepreneurship college and realize school-local co-construction. In 2013, it was rated as a model school for employment and entrepreneurship of university students in Hunan Province. In 2016, it was recognized as the first batch of innovation and entrepreneurship incubation demonstration bases for university students in Hunan Province. In 2017, it became a member of the China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance and a member of the Practice Alliance. After years of practical exploration, a four-in-one innovation and entrepreneurship ecological system of "integration of professional and creative, integration of scientific and technological innovation, integration of industry and education, and integration of thinking and innovation" has been constructed.

Over the past 30 years, the school's stability maintenance work has achieved "six non-occurrences" and "three zero indicators". It has become the only school in the province that has been awarded the title of "Hunan Province Safe Unit" for 10 years and 11 consecutive years. In 2017, it won the honorary title of Hunan Province's Top Ten "Safe Schools" (only 3 universities in the province), and is known as a banner for the construction of safe universities in Hunan Province.

The school takes serving economic and social development as its mission, and has successively carried out in-depth cooperation with more than 50 influential companies such as Sany Heavy Industry, Longping High-Tech, and ChinaSoft International. It has established two industry colleges such as Kingdee Business School and Ruilishi VR Intelligent Technology College. The school, the government and the enterprise jointly built the Central China Branch of the National Engineering Research Center for Advanced Steel Materials Technology, opened 6 industry-titled classes, and selected 30 application technology service teams and 26 science and technology commissioners to serve the industry; signed more than 500 industry-university-research cooperation agreements with enterprises, and the horizontal school funding increased from 1.82 million yuan in 2016 to 59.79 million yuan in 2020. The school-city integration development strategy will be implemented in 2021.

The school has carried out teacher-student exchanges and cooperation with 46 universities in countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia. The preschool education major of the Sino-foreign cooperative education project has successfully passed the qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. The school has been identified as a "Belt and Road" scholarship enrollment unit in Hunan Province.
