University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Formerly known as Chengdu Institute of Telecommunications Engineering, it was established in 1956 under the personal deployment of Premier Zhou Enlai by merging the telecommunications engineering majors of Jiaotong University (now Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi'an Jiaotong University), Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University), and South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology).

The university was listed as a national key university by the CPC Central Committee in 1960, and was identified as one of the seven national defense industry colleges by the CPC Central Committee in 1961. It was renamed University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 1988, and was identified as one of the first batch of key universities in the national "211 Project" in 1997. In 2000, it was transferred from the former Ministry of Information Industry to the Ministry of Education. In 2001, it was included in the ranks of key universities in the national "985 Project". In 2017, it was included in the ranks of Class A universities in the national construction of "world-class universities". In 2019, the Ministry of Education and Sichuan Province signed an agreement to jointly promote the construction of our university into a world-class university. In 2022, it was selected into the list of universities in the second round of the national "Double First-Class" construction. After more than 60 years of construction, the school has formed a multi-level and multi-type talent training pattern from undergraduate to master and doctoral students, becoming a multi-disciplinary research university that fully covers the entire electronic information discipline, with electronic information science and technology as the core, engineering as the main focus, science and engineering penetration, and coordinated development of science, engineering, management, liberal arts, and medicine. It has grown into the source of high-tech in the field of domestic electronic information and a base for innovative talents.

The school has four campuses in Qingshuihe, Shahe, Jiulidi, and Yongning, with a total building area of ​​more than 1.39 million square meters. It has a modern digital library with rich collections and a number of modern sports venues with complete facilities. The campus is lush with trees all year round, the lake is rippling, and the buildings are elegant and heavy. It is a good place to cultivate sentiments and study.

The school has 23 colleges (departments) and 65 undergraduate majors, of which 13 are national characteristic majors, and 24 majors are selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction points. There are more than 40,000 undergraduate, master and doctoral students. The rate of undergraduates studying at home and abroad exceeds 2/3, of which the rate of studying abroad exceeds 1/5. The employment rate of students has remained above 95%, and more than half of the graduate students have been employed in key national units. The school has built a number of national quality courses and textbooks such as national quality online open courses, and has a national college student cultural quality education base, as well as more than 20 national education and teaching practice bases and demonstration centers such as the national experimental teaching demonstration center, virtual simulation experimental teaching demonstration center, engineering practice education center, and national engineering professional degree graduate joint training demonstration base, and has won a number of national teaching achievement awards.

The school vigorously implements the discipline improvement strategy, solidly promotes the deep integration of science and engineering, and the influence of the discipline continues to increase. The school currently has 2 national first-level key disciplines (the 6 second-level disciplines included are all national key disciplines) and 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines. There are 19 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 31 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 4 doctoral professional degree authorization points, and 12 master's professional degree authorization points. There are 15 postdoctoral mobile stations. In the fourth round of national first-level discipline evaluation, 4 disciplines of the school were rated A, of which two disciplines of electronic science and technology and information and communication engineering were rated A+, and the number of A+ disciplines ranked first among western universities.

The university vigorously implements the strategy of serving the country's major needs, takes "reaching the sky, standing on the ground, and cultivating people" as the orientation of scientific research work, adheres to the development concept of "open, focused, integrated, and striving", faces the world's scientific and technological frontiers, the main battlefield of the economy, the major needs of the country, and the people's life and health, and strives to promote the scientific and technological innovation pattern of giving equal importance to basic research and applied research, and continuously improves the ability of integrated research and original innovation. The university has 4 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, 2 national and local joint engineering laboratories (research centers), 2 co-built national engineering laboratories, 1 national industrial innovation center, 1 of the first batch of national specialized maker spaces, 59 provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions, 6 innovation groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 6 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, and 3 national defense science and technology innovation teams. It has been approved to build a national integrated circuit industry-education integration innovation platform. Since the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the university's scientific and technological achievements have won 35 national awards and 365 ministerial and provincial awards. The school gives full play to its advantages in disciplines, talents and scientific research, actively participates in the construction of the "Belt and Road" and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and establishes research institutions in the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, etc., actively serves the industrial transformation and upgrading of Sichuan Province, and helps Sichuan build a modern industrial system. The school vigorously implements the talent priority development strategy. There are more than 3,800 faculty and staff, including more than 2,500 teachers and more than 660 professors. As of now, our school has more than 300 high-level talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The school vigorously implements the international development strategy and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 200 universities, scientific research institutions, and enterprises in more than 70 countries and regions in the world, and has signed student exchange and joint training agreements with a number of well-known foreign universities. Overseas high-end academic cultivation bases and teaching training bases have been established at McGill University in Canada, William and Mary College in the United States, and Glasgow University in the United Kingdom. Establish long-term cooperative relations with world-renowned universities such as Oxford University in the UK and the University of California series in the United States, and build an international talent training system for the school through the organic combination of domestic and overseas learning links. 40% of undergraduate students have overseas study experience during their time at school, and students' long-term and short-term study destinations cover nearly 50 countries and regions. There are more than 1,000 long-term international students from more than 70 countries and regions studying at the school. Three national-level international joint research centers and several international joint scientific research platforms have been established. Actively implement the "First-Class Partner Program" to promote international talent training, and establish a number of Sino-foreign cooperative education projects at the undergraduate, master and doctoral levels with the University of Glasgow, McGill University, and the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.
