Panzhihua University

Panzhihua University is the only comprehensive public undergraduate university in southwest Sichuan and northwest Yunnan that is located by the Ministry of Education. It is mainly engaged in engineering, and has coordinated development of 9 disciplines including science, engineering, liberal arts, law, economics, management, medicine, art, and agriculture. The school is located in the urban area of ​​Panzhihua City, a famous vanadium and titanium capital, a sunny flower city, a health resort, and the only city named after a flower in the country.

In recent years, it has been awarded the titles of "National Civilized Unit", "National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee", "National Model Advanced Unit for Greening", "Sichuan Province Excellent Civilized Campus", "Sichuan Province High-tech Industry Demonstration Research Unit", "Sichuan Province Talent Development Advanced Unit", "Sichuan Province Ideological and Political Work Advanced Unit", "Sichuan Province Xingchuan Strategic Talent Strengthening Province Demonstration Base", "Sichuan Province College Graduate Employment Advanced Unit", and "Sichuan Province Intellectual Property Advantage Cultivation Unit".

Historical evolution: The school was born in response to the needs of the Third Front Construction. It was founded in 1983 and was advocated by the older generation of revolutionaries such as Fang Yi and Song Renqiong. Party and state leaders Fang Yi and Fei Xiaotong successively wrote the name of "Panzhihua University". In 1994, it merged with Panzhihua Education College, and in 1998, Panzhihua Health School was incorporated. In 2001, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be rebuilt into an undergraduate college and renamed "Panzhihua College"; in 2004, Panzhihua City Senior Technical School was transferred to the school as a whole, and in 2005, it was added as a bachelor's degree awarding institution. In 2007, Panzhihua City Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine was transferred to the school as a directly-managed affiliated hospital. In 2017, Panzhihua Central Hospital became the school's second clinical medical school; since 2007, postgraduate education has been held (jointly with Xihua University and other universities), and international student education has been held in 2017. In 2018, it passed the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education with high quality, and was approved as a master's degree awarding institution in 2021.

School positioning: The school is rooted in Panxi, looking at the whole country and embracing the world. After 39 years of school practice, the development goals are clearer, the development positioning is more precise, and the path planning is clearer. Infrastructure: The school environment is beautiful, the four seasons are like spring, there are flowers in spring and lotus in autumn, warm sun in winter and wind in summer. The school covers a total area of ​​about 1,224 acres. Teaching and research are mainly in the adjacent Nanyuan and Xiyuan campuses. The school building area is 574,200 square meters and the fixed assets are 1.099 billion yuan. The library has a collection of 4.95 million documents. It is a national reading demonstration base in Sichuan Province and is known as a popular check-in place in Panzhihua City.

Faculty: The school has a faculty team that is rooted in the third line, selflessly dedicated, and enterprising. The school has 21 teaching units, 1 scientific research unit, 7 teaching auxiliary units and 1 directly managed tertiary affiliated hospital. There are 1,068 faculty members (excluding affiliated hospitals), including 925 full-time teachers; senior professional and technical positions account for nearly 41%, and doctoral and master's degree teachers account for 83%; 2 experts enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, Tianfu Emei Plan, Sichuan Province Academic and Technical Leader Reserve Candidates and other provincial and municipal experts 116 person-times.

Discipline construction: The school has a complete range of disciplines and distinctive characteristics. There are 47 undergraduate majors, 5 junior colleges, and 2 professional master's degree authorization points. There are 1 national specialty major, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot project, 15 provincial and ministerial advantage majors, 6 provincial specialty majors, 5 provincial application-oriented demonstration majors, 3 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 9 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 12 provincial excellent talent training plans, and 11 provincial quality courses. The school has formed a school-running feature with vanadium and titanium as advantages, new engineering, new medicine, new agriculture and new liberal arts, and coordinated development of general higher education, higher vocational education, secondary vocational education, and adult higher education. In 2016, the first health care college in the country was established, and in 2017, the first socialist theory education college in the country was established. In 2018, the Vanadium Titanium College, the Intelligent Manufacturing College and the Panzhihua Discipline Inspection and Supervision College were established (co-built with the "Integrity Outlook" magazine and the Panzhihua Discipline Inspection and Supervision Society).

Talent training: The school is in the "third line", benchmarking "first-class", and building a talent training highland with "self-discipline". The school has determined the talent training goal of "self-discipline to climb up the adult" demonstration of moral education, and is committed to the first-class "increment" of the comprehensive quality of college students in four years of university. The source of students has remained stable in 28 provinces (cities, regions), and the clinical medicine major has been included in the first batch of undergraduate admissions. There are 15,428 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, international students, 1,483 students in secondary technical schools and technical schools, and 2,940 adult education students. In recent years, the employment rate of undergraduates has remained above 94%, the satisfaction of employers has remained above 96%, and the pass rate of postgraduate entrance examinations has been increasing year by year. It has been rated as "the advanced unit for employment of college graduates in Sichuan Province" for many consecutive years. The school is one of the 100 applied undergraduate industry-education integration development project construction universities in the country, and the second batch of cooperative universities of the "Ministry of Education·ZTE ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base Project". It has 7 training and practice platforms such as provincial college student innovation and entrepreneurship clubs and provincial university science and technology parks. In recent years, it has incubated 265 student entrepreneurship projects and successfully incubated 62 enterprises, driving nearly 11,000 college students to participate in entrepreneurship.

Scientific research: The school attaches great importance to scientific research and has achieved fruitful results. It is a unit for cultivating intellectual property advantages in Sichuan Province, one of the first pilot universities in Sichuan Province to encourage scientific and technological personnel to innovate and start businesses, and a pilot unit for the mixed ownership reform of the ownership of scientific and technological achievements in Sichuan Province. It has built 1 National Key Laboratory for Vanadium and Titanium Testing, 1 National Panzhihua Vanadium and Titanium Incubator, 25 Provincial Key Laboratories, and 16 Municipal Scientific Research Platforms, and manages and operates the collaborative scientific and technological innovation platform for vanadium and titanium materials in Sichuan universities. In the past five years, a total of 1,562 scientific research projects have been undertaken, including 9 national projects and 235 provincial projects, 52 scientific and technological achievements have been transformed, and social benefits of 1.27 billion yuan have been created; 1,425 patents have been authorized, including 164 invention patents; 4,311 high-level papers have been published, including 479 SCI, CSSCI, and EI papers. In 2021, the school approved 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 Social Science Foundation project, and 1 Ministry of Education Foundation project, and won 3 Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Awards and 4 Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Foreign Exchange: The school adheres to the principle of open education, and has extensive and diverse foreign exchanges. It has established friendly cooperative relations with more than a dozen foreign universities and research institutes in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Canada, Sweden, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. It is a member of the CIS Titanium Association and has established extensive and in-depth cooperation in the fields of teacher-student exchange, cultural and academic exchanges. Students can study or pursue further studies in cooperative universities through study tours, exchange programs, and undergraduate to master programs. It has actively established in-depth cooperative relations with domestic universities and large enterprises such as Macau Jinghu Nursing College, Harbin Institute of Technology, Sichuan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, China Steel Group Corporation, Southwest University, Sichuan University of Light Industry, Shanghai University, Southwest University of Science and Technology, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, etc. in scientific research cooperation and graduate education. It has carried out Sino-German and Sino-Japanese nursing talent exchange projects and hosted the 2017 China (Sichuan)-Nepal Health and Medical Personnel Training Course (this project is the first international medical and health training and exchange project hosted by our province outside Chengdu). The school has been approved as a talent and intelligence introduction base in Sichuan Province, and has undertaken one high-end talent introduction project in Sichuan Province in 2020. It has flexibly introduced 7 people including Li Changming, an academician of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, as visiting professors or members of the academic committee of the International Institute of Vanadium and Titanium, and has hired 7 foreign teachers full-time. There are currently 63 undergraduate international students.

Serving the society: The school actively serves the local economic and social development, gathers wisdom and strength to enhance service capabilities. Deeply cultivating "Vanadium Titanium +", the first International Vanadium Titanium College and International Vanadium Titanium Research Institute in the country have been established, and more than 200 scientific research projects involving vanadium and titanium at or above the municipal level have been undertaken, more than 100 patents and 34 research achievement awards in the field of vanadium and titanium have been obtained, and it ranks first in the province in the field of vanadium and titanium material research. Closely connected with green and low-carbon, actively serving the layout of the sunshine industry, the China Panzhihua Health Care Industry Cultural Base, Panzhihua Sunshine Health Care Industry Technology Research Institute, Panzhihua Health Care Vocational Skills Training Base, and China Panzhihua Health Care Industry Research Center have been built; the affiliated hospital has built a national "chest pain center", a standardized training base for resident physicians, a stroke center, a preventive treatment center, and a national standard version of the heart failure center; actively assisted the development of clean energy, established a solar energy utilization technology integrated engineering laboratory, built the province's first inverter step-down photovoltaic water pumping system with a head of 620 meters, the province's first annual production of 120,000 tons of industrial coal solar energy and air source heat pump joint drying production line and the province's first 110KW rooftop distributed photovoltaic experimental power station. Created a school-local cooperation model based on the "Panzhihua County Development Forum" platform, and has undertaken more than 40 government-commissioned projects and consulting projects in recent years. Solidly carry out targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, and was rated as an advanced unit of "Five Ones" targeted poverty alleviation by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government in 2016 and 2017. In 2021, it was awarded the title of "Special Award Unit for Education Poverty Alleviation in Sichuan Higher Education Institutions and Institutions Directly Affiliated to the Education Department". Continuing education continues to prosper, with a total of more than 50,000 graduates and more than 905,000 training sessions.
