Forge ahead and make progress. Southwest University for Nationalities is located in Chengdu, a national historical and cultural city known as the "Land of Abundance". It is a pearl of ethnic higher education inlaid in the southwest of the motherland. The school is a comprehensive ethnic university directly under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. Its predecessor was Southwest University for Nationalities. It was founded in July 1950 and officially established on June 1, 1951. It was renamed Southwest University for Nationalities in April 2003. In 2005, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and Chengdu City jointly built it; in 2015, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education jointly built it; in 2016, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the school. Southwest University for Nationalities is one of the earliest national universities established in New China under the personal care of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Wang Weizhou and other older generation proletarian revolutionaries. The school inherited the fine tradition of Yan'an Nationalities College, which was born in the flames of the Anti-Japanese War. It was nurtured in the dawn of the Republic and reborn in the reform and opening up period. It is currently marching forward in the new era and new journey with high spirits. In Hongyuan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, the "Southwest University for Nationalities Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Ecological Protection and Animal Husbandry High-tech Research Demonstration Base" has been built, with a school building area of ​​1.136 million square meters. It has a very distinctive ethnic museum and the largest Tibetan literature library in universities in the country and the largest Yi literature library in the world. Among them, the National Museum is one of the first museums established since the founding of New China. It has a collection of more than 8,000 pieces (sets) of various cultural relics of more than 30 ethnic groups in China. It is a national and provincial ethnic unity and progress education base and a Sichuan Province intangible cultural heritage research base. There are more than 30,000 full-time students from 56 ethnic groups on campus; nearly 3,000 faculty and staff, including 664 doctoral and master's tutors. The academic journals published mainly include the publicly issued "Journal of Southwest University for Nationalities" and "Journal of Ethnology". Journal of Southwest University for Nationalities (Humanities and Social Sciences Edition) and Journal of Ethnology have been selected as CSSCI source journals, AMI core journals for the comprehensive evaluation of Chinese humanities and social science journals, and Peking University Chinese core journals for many consecutive times.
