China West Normal University

China West Normal University is a key university in Sichuan Province. The school was founded in 1946 and originated from the National Northeastern University during the Anti-Japanese War. In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved back to Shenyang. With the initiative of knowledgeable people in northern Sichuan and the support of 36 counties and 10 salt fields in northern Sichuan, the private Sichuan Agricultural and Industrial College was established at the original site of Santai by teachers and students from Northeastern University. In 1949, the private Sichuan Agricultural and Industrial College and Xishan Academy founded by Mr. Wu Feibai, a famous expert in Mohism, jointly established the private Sichuan University. In 1950, the school moved to Nanchong City and merged with the Sichuan College of Arts to form the public Sichuan University. In 1952, the school merged some majors of East Sichuan Education College (formerly Rural Construction College), Sichuan University and West China University to form Sichuan Normal College. In 1956, the school was divided into two parts, part of which moved to Chengdu, and the part that remained in Nanchong was renamed Nanchong Normal College. In 1958, it was upgraded to Nanchong Normal College. In 1964, the history department moved back to Nanchong from Chengdu. In 1989, the name of "Sichuan Normal College" was restored. In 2003, it was renamed West China Normal University, and the school motto of "Diligence, Realism, Dedication, and Innovation" was formed.

It is the first provincial university in the province to be awarded the "Sichuan Province Excellent College Student Selection Base". It has now developed into a comprehensive university with a complete range of disciplines, excellent school conditions, strong faculty, and fruitful teaching and research results. The school has outstanding disciplinary advantages and distinctive characteristics of teacher education. There are 82 undergraduate majors, including 10 disciplines such as literature, history, education, science, engineering, agriculture, management, economics, law, and art. Ecology, astronomy, political science, Chinese language and literature, chemistry, Marxist theory, education, Chinese history, and mathematics have an important influence in China. The disciplines of ecology and ecological governance and the discipline group of political science and social governance have been selected as first-class construction disciplines in Sichuan Province. The School of Marxism is the only one of the first batch of key Marxist colleges in the province selected among the universities under Sichuan Province. Chemistry, engineering, and materials science have entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings, and ecology and Marxist theory have been selected into the "2021 Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking". The school is a co-constructor of the Education, Research and Application Center of the National Astronomical Science Data Center, and two scientific research results were selected as the "10 Major Advances in China's Space Exploration" in 2021. The school began to recruit master's students in 1979. It currently has 19 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees, 13 master's professional degree authorization categories, 6 disciplines jointly training doctoral students, and 1 postdoctoral innovation and practice base. There is currently 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 key laboratory of Sichuan Province, 1 engineering laboratory of Sichuan Province, 1 field scientific observation and research station of Sichuan Province, 6 key laboratories of Sichuan universities, and 6 key laboratories of Nanchong City; it has 3 provincial-level high-level social science research teams and 4 Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Teams. It has built the Southwest Branch of the National Freshwater Fisheries Engineering Technology Center, the Giant Panda Staple Bamboo Conservation Demonstration Base of the Bamboo Resources Cultivation Engineering Technology Research Center of the State Forestry Administration; it has built three Sichuan Provincial Social Science Key Research Bases, including the Sichuan Provincial Education Development Research Center, the Regional Culture Research Center, and the Sichuan College Students Ideological and Political Education Research Center, and six other provincial humanities and social science key research bases, including the Pakistan Research Center and the Luoxiahong Research Center; it has built the National Environmental Protection Science Popularization Base, the National College Students Off-campus Practice Education Base, the National Education Master Professional Degree Graduate Joint Training Demonstration Base (2), the Sichuan Provincial Primary and Secondary School Environmental Education Social Practice Base, the Northern Sichuan History and Culture Social Science Popularization Base, and the Northeast Sichuan Aviation Model Science Popularization Education Base and other science popularization education and social practice bases. It has the Sichuan Provincial Tissue Restoration Material Engineering Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, the Provincial University Science and Technology Park, and the Zhu De Research Center, the Ecological Research Institute, the Public Policy Research Institute, the Rural Revitalization Development Research Institute and other scientific research institutions for scientific transformation and social services.

The school has a beautiful environment and complete teaching infrastructure. The school has two campuses, the Administrative Office and Huafeng, covering an area of ​​more than 3,000 acres, with a school building area of ​​more than 1 million square meters, a green area of ​​more than 700,000 square meters, and a sports field area of ​​more than 100,000 square meters. The library is a key ancient book protection unit in Sichuan Province. It currently has more than 3 million paper books, more than 4 million electronic books, 75 Chinese and foreign databases, more than 5,600 kinds of ancient books and more than 74,000 books. The library is open to the public for free reading.
