Chengdu University was founded in 1978 and is one of the first full-time undergraduate colleges hosted by local cities after the reform and opening up. The school implements a system of co-construction by the province and the city, with the city as the main body. It is a key university in Sichuan Province and Chengdu City, and is the host university of the Athletes Village of the 31st World University Summer Games. The school has gone through many mergers, and its history can be traced back to the public Sichuan Excellent Selection Normal School in 1906 and the public Sichuan Provincial Women's Normal School in 1911. It now has a century-old Class III Class A comprehensive affiliated hospital, the Sichuan Antibiotics Industrial Research Institute, a national antibiotic research and development base, with the right to confer bachelor's and master's degrees, and a postdoctoral practice base. Disciplines and majors The school scientifically plans and sets up disciplines and majors around the core literacy of high-quality applied talents, scientific and technological development, and industrial development needs, and continuously promotes the integration of disciplines and majors. There are 10 disciplines and 62 undergraduate majors in art, literature, management, education, economics, law, engineering, medicine, science, and agriculture. There are 9 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees, 16 master's professional degree authorization categories, and a postdoctoral innovation and practice base. The engineering discipline is in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The pharmacy discipline was selected as a high-level discipline in China by the Alumni Association in 2019, ranking second in the province. There are 4 majors in the national outstanding talent education and training program and 7 majors in the provincial outstanding talent education and training program; 4 majors such as food science and engineering were selected as applied demonstration majors in Sichuan Province; radio and television editing and introduction were selected as provincial "curriculum ideological and political" demonstration majors; 19 majors such as tourism management were selected as the first-class undergraduate majors of the Ministry of Education "Double Ten Thousand Plan".

Scientific Research The school focuses on the national economic and social development strategy layout, especially the major regional development strategies, and focuses on adapting to regional industrial clusters, key pillar industries and emerging industries, and continuously improves the level of scientific research services and support capabilities. Local Service The school is fully integrated into the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, closely connected with the needs of Chengdu's "5+5+1" modern industrial system and functional area construction, and built an ecosystem of "interaction between government, school and enterprise, integration of industry, academia and research".
