Sichuan North Medical College is located in Nanchong, a historical and cultural city in Sichuan Province and the birthplace of the Three Kingdoms culture. It is a provincial higher medical college with medicine as its main body and coordinated development of medicine, science, liberal arts, management and engineering.

Sichuan North Medical College is located in Nanchong, Sichuan Province. It currently has two campuses in Shunqing and Gaoping, covering an area of ​​more than 1,000 acres. The school was formerly the Southwest Sichuan North Medical School founded in 1951. It was upgraded to a junior college in 1965 and to an undergraduate college in 1985, and was named Sichuan North Medical College. In 2005, the university began to recruit international students. In 2006, it obtained the right to confer master's degrees. In 2007, it passed the undergraduate teaching work level assessment of the Ministry of Education and obtained excellence. In 2014, it became a postdoctoral innovation and practice base in Sichuan Province. In 2016, it was approved as a new doctoral degree project construction unit in Sichuan Province. In 2017, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation. In 2018, it successfully received the clinical medicine professional certification. In 2020, it was included in the "key cultivation" category of universities in the Sichuan Province's project to promote the construction of new doctoral units in universities to meet the standards and achieve extraordinary leapfrog development.

The school has an excellent foundation for running schools. There are 22 colleges (departments and departments) and 25 undergraduate majors. The school has achieved remarkable results in talent training. It is now one of the first batch of pilot universities for the "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" in the country, and a training base for undergraduate talents in medical imaging and clinical medicine in Sichuan Province. There are more than 19,000 full-time undergraduates, graduate students, and international students. Students have successively won the second prize in the national finals of the National College Students Clinical Skills Competition for Higher Medical Colleges and the first prize in the National College Students Nursing Skills Competition. The school's faculty team is constantly optimized. There are 29 key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, national key clinical specialties, national key specialties of traditional Chinese medicine, provincial key disciplines, key medical disciplines of the Provincial Health Commission, and key construction disciplines, 1 provincial postdoctoral innovation and practice base, and 2 joint training doctoral bases; there are 4 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 4 master's professional degree authorization categories, covering 32 second-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees; clinical medicine is ranked in the top 1% of ESI global disciplines.

The school's scientific research level has steadily improved. 12 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms have been built, including Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory, Sichuan Provincial Clinical Medicine Research Center, Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Colleges and Universities, and Sichuan Provincial Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences, and one academician workstation has been built. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 900 projects of various levels and types, including the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation, and won more than 50 provincial and ministerial awards. Teachers' academic papers have been published in top international academic journals such as Nature. "Journal of North Sichuan Medical College" is a core journal of Chinese science and technology and a core academic journal of RCCSE China.

The school's foreign exchanges have been deepened and expanded. Nearly 600 international students from 22 countries including the United States, Canada, and India have been enrolled, and the impact coefficient of international students ranks second in the province; good cooperative relations have been established with foreign universities such as the University of Toledo in the United States, Swansea University in the United Kingdom, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic Institute in Canada; strategic cooperation has been carried out with Nanchong City to jointly build a high-level medical university, and school-local cooperation, school-enterprise cooperation, school-school cooperation, and school-institute cooperation have been promoted in all directions; cooperation with the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the China Democratic League has been continuously deepened, and Jinan University has established a clinical medicine doctoral training base in the school.
