Sichuan Agricultural University

Sichuan Agricultural University is a national "211 Project" key construction university and a national "Double First-Class" construction university with biotechnology as its characteristics, agricultural technology as its advantages, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is also an excellent university in the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. The current party secretary is Professor Zhuang Tianhui and the president is Professor Wu De.

The school has a long history and rich resources. Its predecessor was the Sichuan Provincial Agricultural School founded in 1906. Since then, it has gone through many historical development stages, including Sichuan Higher Agricultural School (1912), Sichuan Public Agricultural Specialized School (1914), Public Sichuan University Agricultural College (1927), Sichuan Provincial Agricultural College (1932), National Sichuan University Agricultural College (1935), Sichuan University Agricultural College (1950), etc. In 1956, the Agricultural College of Sichuan University was moved to Ya'an, the capital of the former Xikang Province (revoked in 1955), and was independently established as Sichuan Agricultural College. In 1985, it was renamed Sichuan Agricultural University. In 2001, Sichuan Forestry School was merged as a whole. The school currently has three campuses in Ya'an, Chengdu (Wenjiang) and Dujiangyan, covering a total area of ​​about 4,500 acres, with a collection of 14.91 million volumes (items).

The disciplines are complete and distinctive. There are currently 26 colleges, 15 research institutes (centers), and 1 national key laboratory, covering 10 major disciplines including agronomy, science, engineering, economics, management, medicine, literature, education, law, and art. There are 8 postdoctoral research stations, 11 first-level disciplines and 49 second-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 1 doctoral professional degree awarding category, 20 first-level disciplines and 100 second-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 16 master's professional degree awarding categories, and 73 undergraduate enrollment majors; 4 national key disciplines and key cultivation disciplines, and 20 ministerial and provincial key disciplines. In 2005, the school was identified as one of the 40 key universities in the national aid to Xinjiang discipline construction plan. According to the comprehensive scoring results of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation in 2017, the school ranked 7th and 4th among agricultural and forestry universities in the country and universities in Sichuan, respectively. The ESI rankings of five disciplines, namely agricultural science, botany and zoology, biology and biochemistry, environmental science and ecology, and chemistry, have remained in the top 1% in the world in recent years. In 2021, agronomy and veterinary medicine were respectively shortlisted in the top 40 and top 51-75 in the world of the soft science first-class discipline rankings. In 2017, Animal Nutrition and Feeding Science and in 2018, Crop Science were selected into the National Higher Education Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Program (111 Program).

The faculty is strong and famous. The education system is complete and the conditions are excellent. It has a complete education system for training bachelor's, master's and doctoral students. It is one of the first universities in the country to resume recruiting graduate students after 1976. The school is one of the first 50 universities in the country with typical graduate employment experience, one of the 50 universities with typical innovation and entrepreneurship experience in the country, one of the first five universities in the province's "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" demonstration bases, and one of the first six universities in the province's college student innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration clubs.

The scientific research results are fruitful and the benefits are remarkable. It has won more than 700 scientific and technological achievements awards at the ministerial and provincial levels, including: 1 special prize, 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes in national technological inventions, 1 second prize in national natural sciences, 20 second prizes in national scientific and technological progress, 3 special prizes in Sichuan Province Science and Technology, and 71 first prizes. About 70% of the award-winning achievements have been promoted and transformed, creating a cumulative social and economic benefit of more than 100 billion yuan. High-level papers have been published in top international academic journals such as "Cell" and "Science". It has extensive external exchanges in various forms. It has established exchanges and cooperation relations with more than 100 universities or research institutions in 24 countries (regions), including the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Russia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, and has signed more than 130 exchange and cooperation agreements. It has carried out joint training projects in the modes of "2+2", "3+1", "3+1+X" and "4+1" with well-known universities at home and abroad. It has built one provincial and ministerial-level international cooperation joint laboratory, three international science and technology cooperation bases, and one country and regional research center. The school is one of the first 200 universities in the country that can accept international students conditionally, a university that has signed a contract for the national high-level university construction project for postgraduate students, and a member university of the "Belt and Road South-South Cooperation Agricultural Education and Science and Technology Innovation Alliance". It has been rated as an advanced work unit for returned overseas students by six national ministries and commissions, and has been rated as an advanced collective for introducing foreign intelligence and an advanced unit for the management of foreign cultural and educational experts by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

The construction and development of the school have received great attention and cordial care from the leaders of the Party and the country. In April 1991 and May 2002, Comrade Jiang Zemin visited the school twice and expressed his appreciation for the school's achievements in teaching and research. In January 2002, Comrade Wen Jiabao instructed that the "Sichuan Agricultural University Spirit" should be summarized, publicized and carried forward. In October 2007, Comrade Wen Jiabao again instructed that Sichuan Agricultural University has made great achievements and its experience in running schools deserves attention. In May 2008, Comrade Li Keqiang visited the school to visit and comfort the teachers, students and staff affected by the "5.12" disaster. In October 2001, Comrade Li Lanqing visited the school and highly praised the "Sichuan Agricultural University Spirit" and fully affirmed the school's outstanding contributions to local economic and social development.
