Xian Medical College

Xi'an Medical College is a full-time undergraduate college run by the provincial government. It consists of Hanguang Campus, Weiyang Campus and Gaoxin Campus. There are 13,989 undergraduate students and 779 full-time postgraduate students.

History

The predecessor of the school was Shaanxi Health Technology School founded in 1951. In 1959, it was renamed Shaanxi Xi'an Health School, and on this basis, Shaanxi Health Cadre Training College was established. In 1994, the State Education Commission approved the establishment of Shaanxi Medical College. In February 2006, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Xi'an Medical College.

Faculty

The school has a team of teachers with good professional ethics, reasonable quantity structure, and excellent teaching and research, which meets the school's education and teaching needs. The teaching staff consists of two parts: basic teachers at the school headquarters and clinical teachers at the hospital. As of March 2022, there are 878 full-time teachers, including 207 teachers with senior professional titles, 342 teachers with associate senior professional titles, and senior professional title teachers account for 62.53%; there are 469 teachers with master's degrees and 279 teachers with doctoral degrees. Doctoral and master's degree teachers account for 85.19% of the total number of full-time teachers. Education and Teaching

The school has always regarded improving the quality of education and teaching as the fundamental task of school development, strengthened teaching construction, deepened teaching reform, established and improved the teaching quality assurance system, and continuously optimized the talent training model and training mechanism, and the quality of education and teaching has been continuously improved. In 2018, the school was identified as a "first-class college" construction unit by the Provincial Department of Education. It currently has 16 teaching units including the School of Clinical Medicine, the First Clinical Medical College, the Second Clinical Medical College, the School of General Medicine, the School of Nursing and Rehabilitation, and the School of Pharmacy. It offers graduate education, general undergraduate education, and continuing education. It has the right to confer the first-level discipline of the Master of Clinical Medicine, and currently has 21 enrollment directions. General undergraduate education offers 21 majors including clinical medicine, nursing, pharmacy, preventive medicine, and stomatology. There are 1 national first-class undergraduate professional construction site of the "Double 10,000 Plan", 9 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 2 national first-class undergraduate courses of the "Double 10,000 Plan", 20 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 3 provincial "comprehensive reform pilot projects of majors", 3 provincial characteristic majors, 3 national excellent doctor teaching reform pilot projects, 1 national off-campus practice base for college students, 14 provincial teaching achievement awards, 31 provincial teaching reform projects, provincial online open course construction projects and more than 50 undergraduate teaching quality projects.

The school adheres to the school-running positioning of "facing the grassroots, serving the local area, and cultivating high-quality applied medical and health talents", always adheres to the "teaching center position" unshakably, continuously deepens education and teaching reforms, innovates talent training models, improves talent training quality, and improves education and teaching levels year by year. In the "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" jointly organized and implemented by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, the school became the first batch of pilot universities for the Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program and the first batch of pilot universities for the training model of clinical medicine master's professional degree postgraduates. At present, a unique "school-hospital-community joint tutor group training model" has been explored, breaking through inter-school boundaries, establishing joint training bases with 16 medical institutions with professional characteristics and influence, and building a team of more than 400 dual-teacher tutors with a reasonable structure.

Medical work and clinical teaching resources

The school has built a relatively complete clinical medicine practice teaching base. There are 6 directly affiliated hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital, the Third Affiliated Hospital, the Affiliated Baoji Hospital, the Affiliated Hanjiang Hospital, and the Affiliated Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, with a total of 6,200 beds and an annual outpatient volume of 3.9207 million. There are also 31 teaching hospitals (including non-directly affiliated hospitals).

The Affiliated Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital has 13 specialized hospitals, 10 medical centers, 21 national and provincial key specialties and provincial advantageous disciplines, 8 provincial clinical medicine research centers and sub-centers, and 1 international cooperation base, key laboratory, and engineering center. The hospital is a national training base for general practitioners, a standardized training base for resident doctors, a training base for interventional diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, a national drug clinical trial institution, an emergency medical rescue unit, and the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Clinical Medicine. It hosts the Chinese Science and Technology Paper Statistical Source Journal, the core journals "China Health Quality Management Journal" and "Modern Laboratory Medicine Journal". The first affiliated hospital (the first clinical medical school, the general medical school). It has three specialized hospitals. It is a national comprehensive standardized training base for resident doctors, a national drug clinical trial institution, and the only national general key specialty base in Shaanxi Province. The general medicine specialty is a "first-class specialty" in Shaanxi universities. There are 4 provincial clinical key specialties and provincial medical advantage specialties, and 3 provincial university advantage disciplines. It was the first in Northwest China to carry out extracorporeal membrane oxygenation technology (ECMO), and cooperated with Weber State University in the United States to establish a first-class respiratory intensive care unit in Northwest China. Respiratory therapy has formed a certain influence at home and abroad. The Second Affiliated Hospital (Second Clinical Medical College) has a Department of Clinical Medicine and a Department of Anesthesiology, three provincial key clinical specialties and advantageous disciplines, and one provincial key laboratory. The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Department of Ophthalmology are the clinical medical research sub-centers of Shaanxi Province. The Department of Ophthalmology is the Guangming Center of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Eye Diseases, and the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine is a national PCCM department standardization construction unit. The first "Northwest Eye Immunity Alliance" and the "Baqiao District Medical Group" were established. The Third Affiliated Hospital is a National Health Commission Baby-Friendly Hospital, a designated medical institution for the congenital structural malformation rescue project, a provincial health commission cancer standardized treatment demonstration ward, and a designated hospital for the precise rehabilitation assessment and service of the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation. The Affiliated Baoji Hospital is a pilot hospital for the standardized diagnosis and treatment of common tumors in municipal and county hospitals across the country. It has successfully completed the first "multi-plane ultra-long-term palm replantation surgery" in China. The Affiliated Hanjiang Hospital participates in the development strategy of "medical care in Hanzhong", with the goal of creating a tertiary-level A-class specialized hospital, and creating a specialty department led by geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine. In recent years, the affiliated hospital has more than 80 outstanding experts, personnel enjoying special allowances from the State Council, top talents in key areas of the province, three-five talents, new stars of science and technology, outstanding young people in the province, and top talents. It has undertaken more than 1,000 national, provincial and ministerial projects. It has won more than 120 scientific and technological achievement awards from governments at all levels. The school conducts daily overall development planning and supervision and management of the affiliated hospitals to improve the overall medical service capabilities of the affiliated hospitals, carry out academic exchanges, clinical research, talent training and other activities, and play a leading and radiating role.

Scientific Research

The school insists on taking discipline construction as the leader and the priority funding areas of the National Natural Science Foundation as the guide, increasing the construction of scientific research platforms, and the number of scientific research projects, scientific research funds, and scientific research results has increased year by year. There are currently 1 national drug clinical trial institution, 7 provincial scientific research platforms, 6 provincial clinical medicine sub-centers, 13 school-level research institutes (centers), 2 provincial science and technology innovation teams, 4 youth innovation teams of Shaanxi universities, and 9 scientific and technological talents of various levels and types at the national, provincial and ministerial levels. In recent years, the university has been approved for 76 national scientific research projects, 360 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, 5 provincial science and technology awards, 32 scientific and technological achievements transformation projects, and transformation funds of 2.345 million yuan.

Cooperation and Exchange

The school actively cooperates with the School of Medicine of Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Air Force Medical University in talent training, discipline construction, scientific research and other aspects. It has established cooperative and exchange relations with 17 colleges and institutions in 12 countries or regions, including the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Nepal, Kyung Hee University of South Korea, Yamanashi University of Japan, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara of Malaysia, Thomas More University of Belgium, and Harding University of the United States. Through cooperation with friendly colleges and universities in the form of mutual assistance in the fight against the new crown epidemic, joint training of students, short-term visits of teachers, mutual exchange of students, online and offline academic reports, etc., the international exchange of education will be deepened and implemented.

The school actively joins international medical education organizations such as the "Belt and Road International Medical Education Alliance" and the "China-Russia Medical University Alliance", organizes or co-organizes international conferences in the fields of general medicine, medical humanities, and medical publishing, expands cooperative learning with medical education and research institutions at home and abroad, enhances the school's reputation at home and abroad, and opens up channels and builds platforms for the internationalization of schooling.

Serving the local area

The school insists on serving the local economic and social development, and has been identified as the Shaanxi Provincial General Practitioner Training Base and Shaanxi Provincial Grassroots Doctor Training Center. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 90,000 medical and health talents for the country, alleviating the shortage of personnel in grassroots medical and health units in our province. The School of Continuing Education gives full play to the role of the "Shaanxi Rural Grassroots Health Talent Training Base" and the "Shaanxi Provincial Family Planning Technical Cadre Training College", and undertakes a number of grassroots doctors' continuing education projects such as training for 10,000 doctors, training for family planning technicians, and job training for community health personnel, aiming to improve the diagnosis and treatment level of grassroots medical personnel.
