Xi'an Polytechnic University is a comprehensive university with a long history, solid foundation and distinctive characteristics. It is the only university in western my country that specializes in textiles and clothing. The university currently has two campuses, Jinhua and Lintong, covering an area of ​​about 1.08 million square meters and 15 teaching units. There are 131 laboratories, 12 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 11 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 7 national and provincial engineering technology research centers, 1 provincial 2011 collaborative innovation center, 4 new R&D platforms jointly built by "four subjects and one alliance" school-enterprise cooperation, 5 national industrial technology innovation strategic alliances, 9 provincial and ministerial industrial technology innovation strategic alliances, 6 provincial philosophy and social science research bases, 6 provincial science and technology teams, 1 public service platform of the Ministry of Education, and 1 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship base. After more than 100 years of development, the school has become a university with engineering as the main subject, textiles and clothing as the characteristics, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, science, literature, management, economics, law, and art, with distinctive characteristics. The school is now a university of the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", a high-level university construction university in Shaanxi Province, a university of Shaanxi Province's 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center Construction, a university of Shaanxi Province's postdoctoral innovation base, and a university of Shaanxi Province's domestic first-class discipline construction. The school currently has more than 20,000 full-time students, including more than 3,300 graduate students and more than 17,000 undergraduates.

The school began to train undergraduates in 1928. It is the first batch of bachelor's degree authorization units approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and the second batch of master's degree authorization units approved in 1984. In 2021, the school was approved as a doctoral degree-granting unit and a doctoral degree authorization point in textile science and engineering, 16 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 12 master's professional degree categories. There is 1 national key discipline cultivation discipline in Shaanxi Province, 3 provincial advantageous disciplines, 1 provincial philosophy and social science characteristic discipline, and 1 provincial first-class discipline. There are 19 provincial teaching teams, 31 provincial quality courses and resource sharing courses, 28 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 2 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses, and 12 provincial talent training model innovation experimental areas. The school currently has 61 undergraduate majors, including 8 national first-class professional construction sites and 13 provincial first-class professional construction sites; 4 national characteristic professional construction sites and 9 provincial characteristic professional construction sites; 3 majors that have passed engineering education certification; 2 national professional comprehensive reform pilots, 7 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilots, and 5 national outstanding engineer education and training program majors. The school publishes academic journals "Journal of Basic Sciences of Textile Universities" and "Journal of Xi'an Polytechnic University" that are distributed nationwide.

The school currently has more than 1,800 faculty and staff, including more than 1,200 full-time teachers, more than 600 teachers with senior professional titles, and 650 doctoral and master's supervisors. In recent years, the school has undertaken 105 provincial and ministerial education and teaching research projects; 3 Shaanxi Province graduate education comprehensive reform research and practice projects; won 136 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards, including 1 second prize for national teaching achievements; 1 first prize for graduate education achievements of Shaanxi Province Degree and Graduate Education Society; published more than 790 textbooks, and won 37 provincial and ministerial excellent textbooks; undertaken 131 national key projects, natural science and social science fund projects, and innovation projects, and 638 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; won 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and won 201 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. 2,648 academic papers have been included in SCI, EI, and ISTP.

The school adheres to open education and strives to promote the process of internationalization. The international influence and competitiveness are constantly improving. The school has established cooperative relations with more than 60 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Hong Kong, and has carried out dual-degree joint training with 19 overseas universities. In recent years, more than 500 students have been selected to exchange or participate in joint training of dual degrees abroad; more than 400 teachers have gone abroad for further study and exchange, and more than 900 experts and scholars from home and abroad have been invited to teach, lecture and visit the school.
