Xi'an Shiyou University

Xi'an Shiyou University is the only multidisciplinary general higher education institution in Northwest China with petroleum and petrochemical as its specialty. It is a university jointly established by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and the three major national oil companies, a high-level university construction university in Shaanxi Province, and a university for independent enrollment of Chinese government scholarship students.

The school originated from the Northwest Petroleum Industry College founded in 1951, which was affiliated to the Ministry of Fuel Industry. In 1958, it was upgraded to a university and renamed Xi'an Shiyou College. In 1969, the college was closed and converted into a factory. In 1980, Xi'an Shiyou College resumed its operation and was affiliated to the Ministry of Petroleum Industry. In 2000, it was transferred from China National Petroleum Corporation to a central and local joint construction, mainly managed by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In 2003, it was renamed Xi'an Shiyou University. In 2011, it was selected as a high-level university in Shaanxi Province.

The Yanta Campus of the school is located at No. 18, East Section of Dianzi 2nd Road, Xi'an, the Mingde Campus is located at No. 11, Zhangba East Road, Xi'an, and the Huyi Campus is located at No. 18, Fengjing Avenue, Fengjing Industrial Park, Xi'an. The school covers an area of ​​2,078 acres, with a total value of fixed and intangible assets of 3.36 billion yuan.

The school recruits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has 14 colleges and 2 directly affiliated departments. There are more than 17,000 undergraduates, more than 3,100 full-time doctoral and master's students, more than 1,100 part-time master's students, more than 1,000 international students of various types, and more than 5,000 continuing education students. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 160,000 graduates of various types.

The school has distinct disciplinary characteristics and a relatively complete range of disciplines. It has a complete talent training system from undergraduate, master's to doctoral students. The school has 1 first-level discipline authorized for doctoral degree, 16 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degree, and 15 master's professional degree authorization categories. Among them, the "Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Field" has won the honorary title of "National Engineering Master Graduate Education Characteristic Engineering Field" and is a postdoctoral innovation base in Shaanxi Province. The school has a postdoctoral research mobile station for petroleum and natural gas engineering disciplines. The school has the qualification of "recommending outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination". Among the 58 undergraduate majors, there are 5 national characteristic majors, 9 majors selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 13 majors selected as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 5 national "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" pilot majors, 3 national professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 10 Shaanxi Provincial Characteristic Majors, 5 Shaanxi Provincial Famous Majors, and 7 Second Bachelor's Degree Majors. The school currently has more than 1,840 faculty and staff, more than 1,290 full-time teachers, and more than 670 people with senior professional titles. There are 38 second-level and third-level professors; more than 580 doctoral and master's supervisors; more than 740 teachers with doctoral degrees. In recent years, it has won 2 second prizes of national teaching achievement awards, 50 provincial teaching achievement awards, and 10 higher education teaching achievement awards of the China Petroleum Education Society. It has established 31 national and provincial scientific research bases, 1 provincial key scientific and technological innovation team, 5 Shaanxi college youth innovation teams, and 1 new think tank of Shaanxi colleges and universities, forming 7 characteristic and advantageous scientific research fields such as oil and gas exploration theory and technology and engineering application.
