Xi'an Aviation University is a full-time general college with engineering as the main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is located in the historical and cultural city of Xi'an.

The school was founded in 1955 and was originally named Xi'an Aviation Industry School, which was affiliated to the former Ministry of Aviation Industry. In 1957, it merged with Lanzhou Aviation Industry School. In 1960, it was upgraded to a junior college and renamed Xi'an Aviation Industry Junior College. Later, it was restored due to the adjustment of the national economy. In 1985, it was upgraded to Xi'an Aviation Industry Technical Junior College with the approval of the former State Education Commission, and was renamed Xi'an Aviation Technology Higher Junior College in 1993. In 1999, it was transferred to the local government and affiliated to the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. It is a central and local jointly built college. In 2012, it was upgraded to a general undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education and renamed Xi'an Aviation University. Over the past 60 years since its establishment, the school has always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, implemented the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, and adhered to the "industry-based, local, and application-oriented" school-running orientation, and has trained more than 90,000 high-quality application-oriented talents for my country's aviation industry construction and local economic and social development.

The school currently has two campuses in Lianhu and Yanliang, covering an area of ​​1,158 acres, with a school building area of ​​more than 400,000 square meters; the total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 190 million yuan; there are more than 1.07 million paper books and more than 172 electronic books; there are 143 on-campus internship bases and laboratories such as the aviation comprehensive experimental internship base and the aircraft structure laboratory, and 87 off-campus internship training bases; there is a school-run factory integrating teaching, scientific research, and production; it has scientific research institutions such as the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Special Pump System Technology, the Shaanxi Pump Equipment Research Center, and the Shaanxi Hydraulic Technology Key Laboratory. The school is the vice chairman unit of the National Alliance of Newly Established Undergraduate Colleges, the executive director unit of the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Association, and the director unit of the China School-Enterprise Collaborative Industry-University-Research Innovation Alliance.

The school currently has more than 1,000 faculty and staff, including 63 senior professional titles, 269 associate senior professional titles, 725 with postgraduate degrees, including 189 doctors, and 674 full-time teachers; the school employs 47 visiting professors, including 2 academicians, more than 40 famous experts and scholars; there is 1 national teaching team and 8 provincial teaching teams; there is 1 national teaching master, 9 provincial teaching masters, 3 excellent teachers, 1 excellent young teacher, 3 model teachers, 3 advanced teachers, 3 people in the Shaanxi University Youth Outstanding Talent Support Program, 1 teacher enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, and 10 people serve as members of the Shaanxi Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee.

The school has 17 teaching units, including the Aircraft College (Civil Aviation College), the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electronic Engineering, the School of Materials Engineering, the School of Energy and Architecture, the School of Vehicle Engineering, the School of Computer Science, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Humanities, the School of Science, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Non-commissioned Officers College, the School of Continuing Education, the School of Marxism, and the Department of Physical Education. It offers 35 undergraduate majors, including aircraft manufacturing engineering, aircraft power engineering, flight technology, materials science and engineering, robotics engineering, and aircraft electronic equipment maintenance, covering 19 major majors, including aerospace, machinery, materials, electrical, transportation, and business administration, involving disciplines such as engineering and management. It currently has 1 national first-class major, 6 provincial first-class majors, 1 provincial undergraduate major comprehensive reform pilot project, 3 provincial talent training model innovation experimental zones, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 4 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching projects; 19 national-level quality resource sharing courses, provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, and quality online open courses. Won 14 teaching achievement awards, including 1 national award, 1 provincial special award and 5 first prizes. There are more than 12,800 full-time students at present.

In recent years, the school has undertaken 17 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 2 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, 78 Shaanxi Natural Science Foundation projects, 8 Shaanxi Social Science Foundation projects, 8 scientific research achievement awards at the bureau level and above, 714 authorized patents, and 2,579 academic papers published, of which 441 were indexed by SCI, EI and other retrievals, and 857 were indexed by core journals. The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical ability. In various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at all levels such as the China International "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, the Mathematical Modeling Competition, and the Aerospace Model Championship, the school has won 824 national awards and 978 provincial awards. In the past five years, students have cumulatively undertaken 340 national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship plan training projects and 30 "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition projects. The school has been approved as the Shaanxi Provincial College Practice Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, the Shaanxi Provincial College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Training Base, and the Xi'an Public Innovation Space.

Strengthen advantages and develop with characteristics. The school insists on integrating industry and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and collaborative education as the inevitable way to cultivate applied talents. It has established close cooperative relations with hundreds of large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises and institutions such as China Commercial Aircraft Corporation and Aviation Industry Corporation of China, and carried out order-based talent training such as "Geely Boyue Class" and "Xiangteng IC Class"; jointly trained "non-commissioned officers" with the Rocket Force and the Strategic Support Force, achieving the simultaneous improvement of employment rate and employment quality. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has always been at the forefront of provincial universities, and the school has won the title of "Advanced Collective for Employment of Graduates in Shaanxi Higher Education Institutions" many times. The school attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges, and cooperates with the University of Applied Sciences North Hessen in Germany to host the first dual-degree undergraduate education program in Shaanxi Province, and has established good cooperative relations with universities and research institutions in the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries.
