Xi'an International Studies University

Xi'an International Studies University is one of the four earliest foreign language colleges established in New China, and is the only general university in Northwest China that offers a full range of major foreign languages. In 1951, with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the Central People's Government, the Russian Department of the School of Arts of Lanzhou University, the Russian Language Group of the Foreign Language Department of Northwest University, and the Russian Language Specialization Department were merged to form the predecessor of Xi'an International Studies University, the Northwest Russian Language College. In 1952, the Russian Language Class of the Party School of the Northwest Bureau of the Communist Party of China was merged into the Northwest Russian Language College, and began to train undergraduate foreign language talents for the country.

In 1958, it was renamed Xi'an International Studies University. In 1979, it began to recruit graduate students, and in 1986, it was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee to become a master's degree-granting institution. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Xi'an International Studies University. In 2011, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government listed it as a high-level university that is key to the construction during the "12th Five-Year Plan". In January 2013, it was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee to become a doctoral degree-granting institution and obtained the right to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of foreign languages ​​and literature. In 2014, it was approved as a postdoctoral research mobile station. After nearly 70 years of construction and development, the school has achieved the transformation from a single-discipline foreign language college to a multidisciplinary foreign language university that highlights foreign language education and humanities and social science research characteristics, with humanities as the main body and coordinated development of social sciences, management and science disciplines. It is an important foreign language talent training base in the western part of the country and plays an irreplaceable role in the field of foreign language education, teaching and research in the northwest region.

The school covers a total area of ​​1,593 acres and a building area of ​​801,000 square meters. The school vigorously promotes the construction of a smart campus, with full coverage of wired and wireless networks, rich high-quality network teaching resources, and gradually built public service platforms such as digital campuses. It has modern laboratories such as smart classrooms, multilingual translation experimental teaching centers, international financial investment and business comprehensive simulation experimental teaching centers, Northeast Asian research multimodal laboratories, and collaborative innovation laboratories. The school's classrooms are equipped with multimedia facilities at a rate of 100%. The library has a collection of documents in 54 languages, 2,463 Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals, and 65 databases. The school has been awarded the honorary titles of "Safe Campus" and "Model Civilized Unit" in Shaanxi Province.

The school currently has 20 colleges (departments) and other teaching institutions, with a first-level doctoral degree authorization point in foreign languages ​​and literature, 13 second-level doctoral degree points and 1 postdoctoral research mobile station, and jointly trains doctoral students with 8 foreign universities. There are 7 first-level master's degree authorization points in foreign languages ​​and literature, Chinese languages ​​and literature, business administration, education, journalism and communication, Marxist theory, and applied economics, 74 second-level degree authorization points, and 9 master's professional degree authorization points in translation, Chinese international education, tourism management, accounting, journalism and communication, education, finance, international business, and art. There are 60 undergraduate majors and 4 minor majors, covering 7 disciplines including literature, economics, management, law, education, science, and art. The first-level discipline of foreign languages ​​and literature is a characteristic discipline of philosophy and social sciences in Shaanxi Province's general colleges and universities. English language and literature, French language and literature, and German language and literature are key disciplines in Shaanxi Province. English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, translation, business English, tourism management, Arabic, Hindi, and business administration are 12 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. English and French majors are national comprehensive reform pilots, and 5 majors such as English, Russian, French, tourism management, and translation are national characteristic majors. The school currently has 7 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, 5 provincial famous majors, 9 provincial characteristic majors, and 13 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. There is 1 national bilingual teaching demonstration course, 2 provincial bilingual teaching demonstration courses, 16 provincial quality courses, 19 provincial quality resource sharing courses, 10 provincial first-class courses, 10 provincial talent training model innovation experimental areas, and 15 provincial teaching teams. The school cooperated with Global Times Online (Beijing) Cultural Communication Co., Ltd. to establish a literary practice education base, which was approved as a national and provincial off-campus practice education base for college students. The management practice education base established in cooperation with Xi'an Pepsi-Cola Beverage Co., Ltd. and the Management Committee of Xi'an Yanliang National Aviation High-tech Industrial Base was approved as a provincial off-campus practice education base for college students. "JD Cloud-Xi'an International Studies University Cross-border E-commerce Translation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Education Base" and "Shaanxi Radio and Television Station-Xi'an International Studies University Social Media Innovation Practice Training Base" were approved as provincial off-campus innovation and entrepreneurship practice bases for college students. The school and Sichuan International Studies University jointly initiated the establishment of the Western Higher Education Foreign Language Education and Teaching Alliance by 31 western universities and 7 units including Foreign Language Research and Development Press and Foreign Language Education Press. The school is a university that recommends outstanding undergraduates to study for a master's degree without examination, a university that recruits non-common languages ​​in advance, and a university that is qualified to accept recommended students. The school has strong scientific research capabilities. The Poland Research Center and the Northeast Asia Research Center have been registered as country and regional research centers by the Ministry of Education. The South Asia Research Center has been approved by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission as the "Belt and Road" country and regional research and cultivation center. The Belt and Road Language Service Collaborative Innovation Center is the 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Shaanxi Province. The European and American Literature Research Center, the Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Research Center, and the International Public Opinion and International Communication Research Institute are Shaanxi (colleges and universities) key research bases for philosophy and social sciences. It has five major research institutes, including the Institute of Foreign Languages ​​and Literature, the Institute of Translation and Cross-Cultural Studies, the Institute of Regional and Country Studies, the Institute of International Public Opinion and International Communication, and the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences. It has 46 school-level scientific research institutions, forming a relatively complete and large-scale foreign language and interdisciplinary scientific research system, undertaking a number of scientific research projects funded by national, provincial and ministerial levels and foreign cultural ministries, and publishing high-quality large-scale dictionaries, monographs, translations, papers and textbooks. Academic journals such as Foreign Language Teaching, Human Geography, and Journal of Xi'an International Studies University are core journals of Chinese humanities and social sciences and Chinese geography with certain influence in the academic circles at home and abroad. Among them, Foreign Language Teaching and Human Geography have been selected as CSSCI source journals for many years, and Journal of Xi'an International Studies University is a CSSCI extended version source journal and Peking University's "Overview of Chinese Core Journals". Foreign Language Teaching and Human Geography have been rated as "China's Excellent Academic Journals with International Influence" and "China's Most Internationally Influential Academic Journals" for consecutive years.

The school insists on giving full play to its own advantages and carrying out extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It has signed cooperation agreements with 270 colleges and universities and scientific research institutions in 49 countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Russia, and implemented joint training programs for academic, master, and doctoral talents at different levels; carried out academic exchange and cooperation projects such as mutual dispatch of teachers and students, mutual recognition of credits, mutual award of degrees, and joint hosting of international conferences; and introduced overseas visiting and internship programs in the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and Hong Kong. The school has been identified by the Ministry of Education as a cooperative institution for the overseas training program for young backbone teachers and the international exchange program for outstanding undergraduates. It is a commissioned training unit for receiving international students from the national government scholarship program, and the first HSK (written and computer-based test) and HSKK test center in Northwest China certified by the Ministry of Education. The school actively responded to the national "Belt and Road" construction initiative, established the Central Asia College to carry out the education of international students from Central Asian countries, established 9 "Belt and Road" country regional research centers, and obtained approval from the Ministry of Education to hold a Sino-foreign cooperative education project for undergraduate education in Arabic language and literature with the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. The school has established 3 Confucius Institutes in Kazakhstan, Argentina and France, and has been awarded the "Advanced Chinese Cooperation Institution Award" by the former National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language/Confucius Institute Headquarters, Shaanxi Provincial Government Departments, Education Departments and other units. In 2012, the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language was approved to establish a multilingual base for the international promotion of Chinese (Xi'an). The school cooperates with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants to run ACCA reform classes, CIMA reform classes, and CFA reform classes. It also builds a Russian language and culture center with Novosibirsk State University of Technology in Russia and a Sino-German College with the University of Münster in Germany. The Korean Cultural Center, the Goethe Institute in Germany, and the Pucheng English Group in the United States have respectively established the "Sejong Academy", "Goethe Language Center", and "Susan Qin English Center" in the school. In addition, the school also has the Ministry of Education's Overseas Study Training Department, the China Scholarship Council's Overseas Study Preparatory Education Center, and the China (Ministry of Education) Overseas Study Service Center Overseas Study Training Base.
