Xinzhou Normal University

Xinzhou Normal University is a provincial full-time general undergraduate college located in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. The predecessor of the college can be traced back to Xinxian Normal College founded in 1958. It was renamed Xinzhou Normal College in 1984. In 1998, it merged with Xinzhou Regional Education College, Xinzhou Workers University, and Shanxi Radio and Television University Xinzhou Branch to form Xinzhou Normal College. In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Xinzhou Normal College and Xinzhou Normal School merged to form Xinzhou Normal University.

For more than 60 years, the college has always adhered to the school motto of "learning to enlighten wisdom, cultivating morality and educating people", and insisted on facing basic education, researching basic education, serving basic education and regional economic and social development. It has now developed into a general higher normal college with undergraduate education as the main focus, while taking into account junior college education and continuing education. There are currently 26 teaching units and 45 undergraduate majors (20 normal majors and 25 non-normal majors), covering 9 disciplines including law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, economics, and art. The college currently has 1 Shanxi Province "1331 Project" advantage and characteristic discipline, 5 Shanxi Province key support disciplines; 1 Shanxi Province "Service Industry Innovation Discipline Group Construction Plan" cultivation project, 1 Shanxi Province Higher Education Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base, 1 Shanxi Province Collaborative Innovation Cultivation Project; 3 characteristic specialty construction points determined by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot specialty, 5 provincial characteristic specialties and advantage specialty specialties; 7 provincial quality resource sharing courses, 4 provincial quality courses; 1 provincial key laboratory of higher education institutions, 8 provincial general college experimental teaching demonstration centers.

The college currently has 19,889 full-time students and 1,306 faculty members, including 929 full-time teachers, 333 teachers with associate senior titles or above, 787 teachers with master's degrees or above, 1 overseas high-level talent of Shanxi Province's "Hundred Talents Program", 2 academic and technical leaders of Shanxi Province, 13 selected candidates of the provincial education field's "Sanjin Talents" support program, 9 famous teachers of Shanxi Province, 8 leading talents, academic leaders and outstanding young and middle-aged innovative talents of Shanxi Province's colleges and universities, and 44 part-time doctoral and master's tutors.

The new campus of the college covers an area of ​​about 1,619 acres (including Phase I and Phase II), with a total construction area of ​​490,800 square meters. The college has a relatively advanced comprehensive training center for teacher education, a computer campus network platform, multimedia classrooms, gymnasiums, and various professional laboratories, piano rooms, studios, practice rooms and other teaching facilities. The college has a total of more than 4.3 million books in its collection, including more than 1.68 million paper books and 2.62 million electronic books; there are 41 electronic resource databases.

The college fully implements the party's education policy, adheres to the socialist direction of running schools, firmly establishes the position of talent training center, thoroughly implements the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people, based on the current situation of basic education development in economically underdeveloped areas such as Xinzhou, continues to deepen education and teaching reforms, insists on carrying out poverty alleviation internship teaching work, and builds a "three-in-one" collaborative education mechanism among normal colleges, local governments, and primary and secondary schools, and the quality of talent training has steadily improved. In particular, since 1997, more than 50,000 college students have been sent to more than 700 rural primary and secondary schools in Xinzhou City, Yuncheng, Yangquan, Datong, Xiong'an New Area, Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang, and Hainan for poverty alleviation internships and teaching, and have trained a group of excellent teachers with ideals, moral sentiments, solid knowledge, and benevolence, who are willing to work hard and silently dedicate themselves to basic education, alleviating the shortage of rural basic education teachers in economically underdeveloped areas, effectively promoting the integration of urban and rural compulsory education, and promoting the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy. Chen Zhili, then State Councilor, instructed: "Xinzhou Normal University has done what we have always wanted to do but have not yet done in recent years. Their practices have provided practical experience for deepening the teaching reform of normal colleges, strengthening students' ideological and political work, and solving the problem of teacher team building in poor areas, which is worthy of further summary and promotion." Former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Yan Junqi, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Luo Fuhe, former Minister of Education Zhou Ji, and Vice Governor of Shanxi Province Zhang Fuming and other leaders at all levels visited the school for inspection and guidance and gave affirmation, requiring our college to broaden the way to serve rural revitalization and make new and greater contributions to promoting the high-quality development of basic education and local economic and social development.

The college is the first batch of national "Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone" determined by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance; it was awarded the honorary title of "National Advanced Unit for 'Two Basics' Work" by the State Council; it was jointly rated as a "Red Cross Model School" by the China Red Cross Society and the Ministry of Education, and won the "National Free Blood Donation Promotion Award" three times, and won the "Special Contribution Award for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Work"; it was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Collective for Poverty Alleviation in Shanxi Province" by the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government; it was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced School for Creating Civilized Campuses" by the Education Working Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Over the years, the college has trained more than 85,000 qualified teachers and talents of all levels and types for the society. The employment rate of graduates, the rate of postgraduate entrance examinations, and the proportion of village officials and special post teachers have always been at the forefront of similar undergraduate colleges in the province. Among them, most of the normal school graduates have become the backbone of basic education in the old and poor mountainous areas, providing good talent support for the overall progress of education, culture, economy and society in the country, Shanxi and Xinzhou, and making positive contributions.

In recent years, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the college has resolutely implemented the major decisions and deployments of the Central Committee and the Provincial Party Committee, scientifically grasped the new development stage, deeply implemented the new development concept, and actively seized new development opportunities.
