Founded in 1951, Shanxi University of Finance and Economics is a university with a long history and distinctive characteristics. It is located in Taiyuan, a national historical and cultural city known as the "Dragon City" and the capital of Shanxi Province. Its predecessors were the Shanxi Provincial Bank Cadre School, the Commercial Cadre School, the Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cadre School, the Finance Cadre School and the Grain Cadre School. In September 1958, the five cadre schools merged to form Shanxi University of Finance and Economics. In December 1984, Shanxi Institute of Economics and Management was established. In October 1997, Shanxi Institute of Finance and Economics and Shanxi Institute of Economics and Management merged to form Shanxi University of Finance and Economics.
