Taiyuan Open University

Taiyuan Radio and Television University was founded in October 1979. It is sponsored by the Taiyuan Municipal People's Government, supervised by the municipal education administrative department, and guided by the National Open University (Central Radio and Television University) and Shanxi Provincial Radio and Television University. It consists of the school headquarters and 10 county (city, district) workstations and branches, covering the entire city and the city. It is a new type of higher education institution under the background of the "Internet +" era, guided by the idea of ​​lifelong education, with an open, flexible, high-quality and convenient school-running philosophy, using modern information technology services, and serving the lifelong learning of all people. At present, the school has one team and three brands. That is: Taiyuan Radio and Television University, Taiyuan Experimental College of the National Open University, and Taiyuan Community University.

The school implements the guiding ideology of steadily developing academic education and vigorously developing non-academic education. It adopts physical education, online education, and a hybrid education and teaching model of online and offline education to carry out academic education, community education, elderly education, vocational education, cadre online education, job training and other multi-level, multi-form and multi-type educational and teaching activities.

The school has a strong and high-quality faculty and staff. It is composed of full-time teachers, part-time teachers and management personnel. Professors and associate professors account for 30% of the faculty, and master's students account for more than 50%. Academic education has 24 majors in undergraduate and junior college education all year round, with more than 200 courses offered each year. It has trained more than 100,000 undergraduate, university and technical secondary school graduates for the city's economic construction and social development, and more than 3,000 students on campus each year. The number of non-academic education training has reached 400,000, and more than 1,500 trainees are trained each year.

The school has advanced education and teaching, network facilities and equipment, high-quality academic and non-academic course resources and a complete service management system, and has an academic education and non-academic education system covering the entire city and the countryside. The school develops course resources and provides fixed-point services to students based on the development of local economic construction and the needs of the people. In May 2009, it was approved by the Community Education Research and Training Center of the Ministry of Education as the first batch of "Central Radio and Television University Community Education Experimental Center", and was renamed "National Open University Community Education Experimental Base" in 2012.

In September 2001, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and was awarded the "Central Central Radio and Television University Learning Center (Taiyuan)" by the Central Radio and Television University. In October 2013, it was renamed "National Open University Taiyuan Experimental College". Carry out "experimental and demonstrative" research to explore talent training models in the central and western regions. Carry out credit bank construction to build a lifelong learning overpass for academic education and non-academic education.

In October 2007, with the approval of the Municipal Education Bureau, the "Taiyuan Community College" was established, and community branches were established in 10 counties (cities and districts) based on the TVU school system. In January 2016, according to the provisions of the "Taiyuan City Lifelong Education Promotion Regulations", it was renamed "Taiyuan Community University" to coordinate and guide the community education work of the four-level school-running institutions of the community colleges in ten counties (cities and districts).

In March 2016, the Taiyuan TV University Senior College was established, and the online Taiyuan Senior Open College was created. Start senior education, organize a teaching team, set up a curriculum system, compile course materials, establish rules and regulations, carry out theoretical research, explore the "combination of learning and cultivation" senior education and teaching model, based on education, pay attention to people's livelihood, serve the society, and open a new era and a new journey.

Over the years, the school has won honors such as Taiyuan Civilized Unit, Taiyuan Double Support Advanced Unit, Taiyuan Respect for the Elderly Civilized Unit, and National Demonstration Grassroots TV University.
