Shanxi Normal University

Shanxi Normal University was founded in 1958. Over the past 60 years, the university has been adhering to the fine tradition of normal education and continuously deepening the reform of teacher education. It has now developed into a provincial normal university with a complete training system and distinctive school characteristics. It is an important base for training teachers for basic education in Shanxi Province.

The university has 17,146 full-time undergraduates, 3,588 full-time graduate students, and 316 part-time graduate students. It has 22 colleges, 55 undergraduate majors, 23 first-level master's degree-granting disciplines, 11 master's professional degree categories, 5 first-level doctoral degree-granting disciplines, 2 postdoctoral mobile stations, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 innovation team of the Ministry of Education, 1 base for the inheritance of China's excellent traditional culture of the Ministry of Education, 1 Shanxi Provincial Service Industry Innovation Discipline Group, 2 provincial key disciplines, 21 provincial key construction disciplines, 3 provincial collaborative innovation centers, and 3 Shanxi Provincial Excellent Traditional Culture and Art Education Centers. Base, 4 key research bases for humanities and social sciences in Shanxi universities, undertake the "Excellent Teacher Training Program Reform Project" of the Ministry of Education, undertake the national talent training model innovation experimental zone project and the national college student off-campus practical education base project, have 6 national characteristic majors, 11 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 1 national comprehensive professional reform pilot, 6 provincial advantageous majors, 10 provincial brand majors, 6 provincial characteristic majors, 16 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 national first-class undergraduate courses, 24 provincial quality courses (quality shared courses), 10 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.

The school currently has 1,863 faculty and staff, including 1,284 full-time teachers. There is one winner of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, one leading talent of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", two candidates for the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, four candidates for the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, one national outstanding teacher, one national "cultural master" and "four batches" talent, two "Sanjin Scholars" of Shanxi Province, 22 provincial academic and technical leaders, 24 provincial teaching masters, 6 provincial young and middle-aged top innovative talents in higher education institutions, and 34 provincial outstanding young academic leaders in higher education institutions.

The school attaches great importance to undergraduate teaching and continuously deepens the reform of education and teaching. In 2014, the "student-centered" classroom teaching reform was implemented, in 2016, the talent training model reform with classroom teaching reform as a breakthrough was implemented, and in 2019, the undergraduate education quality improvement plan was implemented. The school has always adhered to the "student-centered" principle, put undergraduate education at the core of talent training, and focused on cultivating socialist builders and successors with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor. In recent years, the quality of education and teaching in the school has been steadily improved, the employment rate has been firmly in the forefront of universities in the province, and graduates have been widely welcomed and recognized by all sectors of society.

The school insists on taking discipline construction as the leader, constantly strengthening connotation construction, and promoting the high-quality development of the school. Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", the school has made every effort to promote the construction of "Double First-Class" disciplines, vigorously implemented the "Discipline Peak and Plateau Construction Plan", and focused on supporting drama and film studies, and chemistry to take the lead in building peak disciplines, forming a "three high" discipline system with "peak disciplines leading, plateau disciplines protruding, and highland disciplines improving", giving play to the discipline cluster effect, helping disciplines to improve quality and efficiency, and actively implementing the "Characteristic Interdisciplinary Cultivation Plan". Guided by major regional needs, it continuously derives new discipline growth points and enhances the core competitiveness of disciplines.

The school attaches great importance to the supporting and leading role of high-level talents. There are currently 3 full-time specially appointed professors and 34 flexibly introduced specially appointed professors, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 National Outstanding Youths, 1 National Excellent Youth, and 3 "Changjiang Scholars".

The school hosts a number of newspapers and periodicals with wide influence at home and abroad. "Chinese Opera" is one of the most influential journals in the drama and opera circles at home and abroad; "Chinese Language Newspaper" and "English Weekly" are well-known at home and abroad and are well-known "Chinese Famous Trademarks".

The school implements open education and continuously increases the intensity of foreign exchanges and cooperation. It has established friendly cooperation and exchange relations with more than 40 foreign universities and educational institutions such as the United States, Britain, Japan, and Singapore, and carried out various forms of exchanges and cooperation such as joint training of students, teacher training, and cooperative research. Inter-school exchanges and exchanges and cooperation with domestic brother colleges are becoming more frequent, and interactive cooperation with all walks of life is becoming more extensive. The school attaches great importance to the construction of spiritual civilization, and has successively won the honorary titles of National Advanced Unit for Teachers' Morality and Style Construction, Model of Civilized and Harmonious Units in Shanxi Province, and the social practice activities of college students have been commended by the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Education and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League for many years.
