Baotou Railway Vocational and Technical College

Baotou Railway Vocational and Technical College is a public full-time higher vocational and technical college approved by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and registered by the Ministry of Education in January 2008. It is also the only railway higher vocational college in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The predecessor of the college was Baotou Railway Engineering School, which was founded in 1956. In 1958, it was upgraded to Baotou Railway College, with a secondary technical school attached. In 1964, the secondary technical school system was restored. The college is now mainly engaged in higher vocational education, and also has training functions.

The college has always adhered to the school-running philosophy of "highlighting railway characteristics, serving the local economy, strengthening connotation construction, improving education quality, and striving for first-class in an all-round way", and strives to cultivate highly skilled professionals with solid foundation, strong practical ability, high comprehensive quality, innovative spirit and craftsman spirit. It has now built a railway industry chain, covering railway transportation professional groups such as railway engineering construction, transportation management, and equipment manufacturing. The three backbone majors of railway engineering technology, railway transportation operation management, and railway locomotives have obvious advantages. In 2015, it was approved as a demonstration higher vocational college construction unit of the autonomous region, forming 7 categories and 30 majors. It has created 11 college-level characteristic brand majors and 24 quality courses. It currently has 1 national vocational college transportation demonstration major, 2 national backbone majors, 3 autonomous region-level secondary vocational education quality improvement project demonstration majors, and 2 majors have been approved to build autonomous region-level professional teaching resource library projects. According to the talent needs of the industry and regional economic development, two new majors, EMU maintenance technology and railway bridge and tunnel engineering technology, were added in 2017, effectively playing the leading and radiating role of brand-characteristic majors in the development of professional groups and the overall development of the college.

In the course of more than 60 years of running schools, the college has always adhered to the mission of cultivating morality and educating people, serving the national strategic needs, and taking multiple measures to cultivate and introduce authoritative and influential railway professional discipline leaders in the industry, vigorously cultivating "double-qualified" backbone teachers and young teachers, hiring leading talents in the railway industry, master craftsmen and part-time teachers, and cooperating with many railway enterprises. Actively explore the collaborative education model that reflects the "dual subject" characteristics of schools and enterprises, such as order-based training, modern apprenticeship, and alternating work and study. It has reached a consensus on cooperation with relevant colleges and universities in Laos, Mongolia, Russia, Pakistan and other countries in professional construction, teacher training, talent training, academic exchanges, etc.; cooperated with Beijing Jiaotong University to carry out internship professional training for international students; and signed 3 professional application undergraduate cooperation agreements with Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology and Ordos Institute of Applied Technology to connect talent training channels. In recent years, the one-time employment rate of graduates has always remained above 95%, forming the school-running feature of "cultivating high-quality, technical and skilled talents to serve the railway and local economy and society".

The college took the lead in establishing the Inner Mongolia Railway Vocational Education Group and the School-Enterprise Cooperation Council, built a platform for in-depth cooperation between schools and enterprises, and realized the sharing and service of the college's educational resources with the resources and technical resources of the railway transportation industry; with "school in factory" and "factory in school" as pilots, a train ticket agency was established in 2016, providing students with a platform for unity of knowledge and practice, and gradually building a talent support chain, employee training and information exchange chain, student internship and training, and graduate employment chain mainly serving the railway transportation industry; in conjunction with the engineering, vehicle, locomotive, electrical, and vehicle units under the Hohhot Railway Bureau, 46 railway and urban rail transportation training rooms and 52 off-campus training bases were built according to professional positions and technical specifications.

Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Baotou Railway Vocational and Technical College has comprehensively deepened reforms, vigorously implemented plans for the construction of high-level railway vocational colleges and majors with Chinese characteristics, actively connected with national strategic needs such as the "Belt and Road Initiative", "Strong Transportation Country", "Strong Education Country", and China's high-speed rail going global, deepened the integration of production and education, and improved the education mechanism of combining moral and technical training with work and study.
