Hulunbuir College is located in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the most beautiful grassland in China and the most charming city with ethnic customs in China. Its predecessor was Hulunbuir University, which was founded in 1958 and resumed undergraduate and junior college enrollment in 1977. In 1992, Hulunbuir League Education College, Inner Mongolia Radio and Television University Hulunbuir League Branch, Hulunbuir Management Cadre College, and Hailar Normal College merged to form Hulunbuir University. In 1997, Hulunbuir College was established with the approval of the former State Education Commission. After 2000, Hailar Mongolian Normal School, Hulunbuir League Commercial School, Hulunbuir League Urban Construction Workers Technical School, and Inner Mongolia Engineering and Technology School were successively incorporated. In 2003, it was promoted to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2011, the school passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. Rooted in Hulunbuir, the school closely follows the needs of the region and the industry, and promotes the application-oriented transformation and development. In 2016, it was identified as the first batch of pilot universities for overall transformation and development in the autonomous region. In the same year, it was selected as one of the 100 universities in the national "13th Five-Year Plan" application-oriented undergraduate industry-education integration development project. In 2018, it passed the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2020, the Degree Committee of the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region recommended the school to the Degree Committee of the State Council as a new master's degree awarding institution.

The school currently has three campuses, covering an area of ​​761,500 square meters, a building area of ​​343,900 square meters, 187,500 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, more than 1.1 billion yuan in fixed assets, 952,000 paper books in the collection, 408,100 electronic books, 22 databases, and a total value of 170.3633 million yuan in teaching and scientific research equipment.

The school has 23 colleges, 20 party and government management agencies, 3 teaching auxiliary departments and the Institute of National History and Culture. There are 57 undergraduate majors, covering ten disciplines of literature, art, science, education, law, engineering, history, management, economics and agriculture. There is 1 national first-class undergraduate major construction site, 10 autonomous region first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 3 autonomous region experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 autonomous region college innovation cultivation team, 2 key research bases, and 1 autonomous region engineering research center. The school has basically formed a good situation with advantageous disciplines as the main body, characteristic disciplines and related majors interacting and developing in a benign manner, providing strong talent support and intellectual support for regional economic and social development.

There are 13,647 full-time students, including 12,944 undergraduates, 116 ethnic minority preparatory students, 703 junior college students, 6 international students, and 1,957 adult education students.

The school currently has 1,159 faculty and staff, including 692 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 180 "dual-qualified and dual-skilled" teachers, 386 with senior professional titles, and 579 with doctoral and master's degrees. Among the teachers, there is 1 national model teacher, 7 autonomous region teaching masters, 7 new teachers, and 8 teaching teams. 2 first prizes and 10 second prizes for teaching achievements in the autonomous region have been won, and 32 teachers have won the first, second, and third prizes in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Teaching Skills Competition.

In recent years, the school has won 21 national social science fund projects and 7 natural science fund projects, published 4090 scientific research papers (including 101 SCI, EI, etc.), obtained 2 invention patents and 156 utility model patents, and won 6 second prizes and 10 third prizes for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. There are 3 "Grassland Talents" in the autonomous region, 3 young innovative talents in the "Grassland Talents" project, 3 experts with outstanding contributions, 1 outstanding scientific and technological worker, and 1 first-level candidate and 2 second-level candidates for the "New Century 321 Talent Project".

The school has carried out school-local cooperation with the banners and cities under Hulunbuir City, and actively participated in and served the regional economic and social development in basic education, teacher training, scientific and technological services, cultural construction, decision-making consultation and other aspects. The school cooperated with the National Major Social Science Fund Commissioned Project "Comprehensive Investigation and Research on the Origin of the Mongolian Nationality and the Imperial Mausoleum of the Yuan Dynasty", creating a distinctive cultural brand around the history and culture of the northern ethnic groups, and played an active role in serving the society and promoting the inheritance and innovation of regional culture.

The school actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation, and has established close cooperative relations with many universities in Russia, Mongolia and other countries. It has been rated as a "First-class University with a Reputation Level of Foreign-related Colleges and Universities" by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for 8 consecutive years.
