Jiangsu Institute of Technology is a provincial full-time general college located in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, a national historical and cultural city known as "a place of reading for thousands of years and a modern innovation city" and an important modern manufacturing base in the Yangtze River Delta. The school was founded in 1984 and has gone through the periods of Changzhou Vocational Teachers College, Changzhou Technical Teachers College, and Jiangsu Technical Teachers College. In 2012, it was renamed Jiangsu Institute of Technology. The school is a master's degree awarding institution, an excellent unit for undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education, one of the first batch of key construction bases for vocational teacher training in the country, and one of the first batch of decision-making consulting research bases in Jiangsu Province.

The school has a building area of ​​nearly 600,000 square meters, a total value of teaching instruments and equipment of more than 300 million yuan, and a collection of more than 1.9 million Chinese and foreign books. It has 21 teaching and research units, including the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, the School of Education, and the Department of Vocational Education. It has established multiple industry colleges and research institutes, including the Industrial Internet Industry College, the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Industry College, the New Energy Vehicle College, the Intelligent Manufacturing College, the Medical Device College, the Shenlan Artificial Intelligence College, and the Liu Haisu Art and Design College. It offers 62 undergraduate majors and recruits master's students in education, machinery, resources and environment, forming a school-running pattern with engineering as the main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.

The school currently has more than 20,000 full-time undergraduate students (including international students) and more than 700 master's students. There are more than 1,500 faculty and staff, nearly 1,200 full-time teachers, including nearly 700 teachers with senior professional titles, more than 500 teachers with doctoral degrees, and more than 200 doctoral and master's degree supervisors. More than 150 well-known experts and scholars such as academicians and national high-level talent special support programs are hired as visiting professors, specially appointed professors and industrial professors. The school adheres to the talent training concept of "people-oriented, ability-oriented, and type-based training", determines the professional layout based on the industry, determines the talent specifications based on the needs of economic and social development, and determines the teaching content based on scientific and technological progress and industrial upgrading, and cultivates excellent vocational teachers and application-oriented senior professionals. In the past five years, students have won more than 2,500 national and provincial awards in various science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship competitions such as the China "Internet +" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, the "Chuang Qingchun" National College Students' Entrepreneurship Competition, the National College Students' Mathematical Modeling Competition, and the National College Students' Electronic Design Competition. Since its establishment, it has trained and sent more than 70,000 graduates for local economic and social development, and trained tens of thousands of secondary and higher vocational teachers and other professional and technical personnel. The school closely combines the national development strategy and regional development characteristics, optimizes the discipline structure, strengthens applied research, forms a number of leading disciplines such as education and mechanical engineering, and creates special highlights such as "vocational and technical education" and "resource recycling". There are 5 key disciplines in Jiangsu Province, 20 provincial and above discipline research platforms such as national technology transfer center demonstration institutions, national university science and technology park branches, provincial engineering (technology research) centers, and provincial key (construction) laboratories.

In the past five years, the school has won nearly 60 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, including 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 1 third prize for outstanding achievements in national education science research, 1 third prize for outstanding scientific research achievements (humanities and social sciences) of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education, 1 second prize for scientific and technological progress (promotion category), and 1 second prize for Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award; it has presided over and undertaken more than 400 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as major projects of the National Science and Technology Support Plan, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and National Social Science Foundation projects, nearly 1,800 horizontal scientific research projects, more than 400 million yuan in scientific research funds, and more than 1,000 national authorized invention patents. The school gives full play to the talent, resources and technical advantages of colleges and universities, strengthens the construction of think tanks, promotes engineering technology collaborative innovation with industry enterprises, increases technical skills training for industry practitioners, pays attention to local cultural inheritance and innovation, deepens multi-level cooperation with local governments, industries, enterprises (communities), and establishes strategic school-local cooperation relations with more than 10 cities and districts in and outside the province. It has established more than 230 industry-university-research bases and more than 40 research institutions with industry associations, well-known enterprises, and large institutes, and has co-built multiple research platforms such as Changzhou Industrial Research Institute, Changzhou Celebrity Research Institute, and Changzhou Vocational Education Modernization Think Tank with local government departments, making positive contributions to local economic and social development and industrial upgrading.

The school vigorously implements the international development strategy, actively introduces international advanced school-running concepts, standards and resources, and focuses on creating international cooperative school-running characteristics with Sino-German cooperation as the main focus. It has established close cooperation and exchange relations with more than 60 universities in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan and other countries, as well as Macau and Taiwan. Every year, experts and scholars are sent to visit or exchange in Germany, Britain, France, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and other countries as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. More than 100 foreign teachers are hired to come to the school to engage in teaching and scientific research activities. At present, the school recruits international students from more than 30 countries along the "Belt and Road".
